Ride Concepts Hellion Flat Pedal MTB Shoes - Black - 46

(48 reviews)

The flat pedal warriors among us will certainly appreciate the Ride Concepts Hellion Shoe when it comes time to drop in on seriously gnarly terrain. Offering increased impact protection, rugged durability, and a sticky rubber outsole, these shoes up the ante when it comes to foot comfort and pedal control. They feature tough synthetic uppers with an anti-peel coating that holds up to rocks and roots on the trail, as well as extensive perforations to keep your feet cool during long summer days at the bike park. For the bottom of the shoe, Ride Concepts partnered with the experts at Rubber Kinetics to create the DST 6. 0 High Grip Rubber Outsole. This design combines their tackiest rubber with a grippy honeycomb tread pattern, working together to ensure your feet stay locked in place through even the chunkiest terrain. As far as protection goes, The Hellion Shoes comes with anti-abrasion toe and heel guards, as well as a fully gusseted tongue that prevents the intake of dirt and debris. These are nice features, but perhaps the most unique and impressive feature is the D3O High Impact Zone Insole Technology. D3O is highly shock-absorbent padding that's commonly used for knee pads and elbow guards. By incorporating D3O into the insole, the Hellion significantly reduces the impacts sustained from huck-to-flat landings and big days in rugged terrain.

Almost as good as Fivetens and spank them on price..

Always been a Five ten wearer but the soles don't last long enough to warrant the prices anymore. Tried these as reviews and price were good. Fit is slim I would say but good for my slim feet. More comfort and support than a Fiveten Freeride. I don't think the soles are as grippy Fiveten and the pins of my One Up pedals are starting to tear the rubber already. If they wear at the same rate as Freeriders I'd go for these for the price. My Freeriders all end up in the bin with torn soles whilst the uppers have years left. I paid £57 for the first pair, then had a voucher, and Tredz had some other promotion, which meant I nabbed a second pair for £42 for when the first ones give up.

I work for Ride Concept, and I actually love the company and their products. All of our mountain shoes are built with a specific last and flex for men and women.I would consider myself an enduro style rider/ armature racer, climbing for exercise (sigh) but mostly to earn an awesome descent. The Hellion Elite is the shoe I ride in most. This shoe is comfortable right out of the box and has a plethora of bells and whistles. The outsole comes with the "Max Grip" rubber, a super grippy material that has you feeling glued to the pedal. The outsoles also offer great support, noticeably firm for excellent power transfer with just enough flexibility for pedal feel.Hellion Elites are a great looking shoe and are also super easy to clean up. I use a terry cloth or baby wipe and clean away any dirt or mud from the soft outer microfiber material. They also come with an antimicrobial mesh internally to keep the stink at bay. This shoe is awesome for long rides up and down the hill, with a D30 insoles and TPU toe and heel protection, just in case you catch your foot between a rock and a hard place.*Size Note* Because of the added toe protection, our shoes can sometimes feel a bit smaller due to the fact they do not have as much flex in the material at the toe. I run between an 8 and 8.5 in most shoes and I am comfortable in an 8.5 Hellion Elite and enjoy my toe's safe haven. Try some on and tell us what you think.A few other niceties like a fully gusseted tongue to keep the dirt out and your foot feeling secure, a lace tuck to keep your laces from flopping about, an awesome layer of EVA in the midsole for a cush ride and the fact they are made of partially recycled material all make me feel good about wearing this shoe. The Hellion Elite is a fantastic all around shoe that I have in many colors because it is awesome!

Dope shoes! Game changer if all you used to wear are vans.

These are a game changer! I was always a hardcore dirtbag rocking worn out hightop vans till I die. But I’m sold on these shoes. Feet actually stay planted on the chunk and braking bumps so I can keep powering through. 11/10 I’m a changed man. Seem to run just a tad small. Im usually a 12.5 and probably should have went 13 because my toes just barely touch the front of the toe box. But eh I’m still gonna send it!

Every bit as good as 5.10, with one exception.
26 August 2022

Comfy out of the box, holding up well, great quality shoe at a fraction of the cost of 5.10 if you get them on sale. Grip just as good as 5.10, but you got to get the right rubber. I purchase a few pairs on sale, and all had great grip, except one pair was like ice skates on the pedals. When I dug deeper, all the good grip shoes had the DST 4.0 "Max" Grip Rubber. The ice skates had the DST 6.0 "High" Grip Rubber. Get the DST 4.0 and don't look back. Avoid the DST 6.0 rubber.

Great MTB shoes!
11 February 2023

There are lots of reasons why I like these shoes. I'll start with most important. The shoes have just the right sole stiffness. You can walk around in them in perfect comfort, but they are stiff enough that they feel firm on the pedals. The rubber sole is sticky enough to give a solid feel, but not as sticky as the 5-10s that practically glue your shoe to the pedals. this allows you to adjustyour foot position on the pedals a bit, which is great. Laces are round, not flat like 5-10s. There's a good reason for this: round laces stay tied! RCs also have a nice elastic strap that you can tuck you laces into so that they don't get loose and into your crank, causing you to have a horrible accident. Comfort is excellent. Breathability is just okay. This is something all ... MoreThere are lots of reasons why I like these shoes. I'll start with most important. The shoes have just the right sole stiffness. Great Shoes!
11 May 2022

I Purchased these about 2 months ago as my first pair of riding shoes. So far they have worked well. They also are very comfortable for someone with very wide feet.Pros:The Grip is Great and the reinforced toe cap has saved my feet multiple times! The elastic lace holder also works very well. They also are very water resistant seemingly without being that hot.Cons:the cushion around the ankle is a bitawkward feeling but you tend to forget about it when you start riding. Now i'm not sure if this is just because mine are still breaking but I find them easy to overtighten and can lead to losing circulation while riding but after simple adjusting the shoe that issueis Gone.all in all a great shoe so far. exited to progress in them!

Have you ever had this happen?
14 April 2023

Have you ever started the journey of researching a product and found another product that REALLY grabbed your attention? Well, the Ride Concept Hellion Elite Mountain Flat shoes were the ones that got mine. I ridden them for a week so far, and I know that is really not a long time to test a product but, the comfort these shoes offer are astounding. If you are reading this review then you are at the place where I bought that shoe. This place is GREAT. Great price, great shipping, great shoes, and great service deserve a GREAT review. I look forward to anything else in the future that I may need and Mike's has to offer. In the meantime, the shoes are the BOMB.Brian M.

Overall really good MTB shoe
10 November 2021

My old Asics starting getting holes in the soles so I decided to finally buy a dedicated MTB shoe. Overall I really like these things. They seem well-constructed and are much more substantial than the Five Ten Freerider, which I also tried on. The materials in particular feel like they'll hold up much better over time. They are definitely stiff out of the box but even after the first ride have become noticeably more compliant and comfortable. The tongue is attached with elastic on the inside sides of the shoe so it gives you a "sock-like" fit. The lace-keepers are also a nice touch, as is the extra protection at the heel and toebox. The grip is certainly and noticeably better than a pair of ordinary shoes, but as my first dedicated pair of shoes I have nothing else ... MoreMy old Asics starting getting holes in the soles so I decided to finally buy a dedicated MTB shoe. I knocked a star off because the heel height seems a tad low and may cause issues with the foot wanting to come out of the shoe (depends on the foot), and also because I found them to be a half size too small and exchanging a shoe that REI doesn't carry in-store for a different size isn't the simplest thing to do.

Sticky!
10 October 2022

The Helion Elites are king! Sticky rubber, stiff, ample padding, these shoes have it all. These are casual enough to wear to the brewery after your ride and built with a performance driven design. After multiple seasons of use there has been zero durability issues. The initial break in period can feel slightly uncomfortable due to how rigid the shoe is, but after just a few rides the shoes will fit like a glove! If you haven't tried a pair of Ride Concepts they are well worth the investment.

The BEST Shoe I have tried so far! 100% Recommend.
25 October 2021

I chose to try out Ride Concepts shoes because I have never tried them before, I have heard great things about them, and I’m a fan of all the riders they sponsor. I chose the Hellion Elite shoe because it looked similar to the Freerider Pro from Five Ten which was a shoe I enjoyed in the past. I always want black shoes so the Hellion Elite fit the bill. Also, flat pedals for lyfe!!The Hellion Elite has been a great shoe so far, I’d say just as grippy as Five Tens but a little less stiff which I prefer. They are still stiff, but not too stiff. So far after about 10 rides the shoes are still in perfect shape. Stitching is still good as new, the tread on the bottom has no signs of wear yet, and the shoes break in nicely. I have been very impressed with the overall quality so far.I am an 11.5 in most shoes which is the size I chose for the Hellion. It was a little tight at first, but they broke down into a perfect size without extra play. The shoes are snug but comfortable. If you do not like snug feeling shoes, I would suggest sizing up. My 11.5 Five Tens felt half a size larger than my 11.5 Ride Concepts. The width of the shoes feel perfect, my Five Tens felt a little wide for my feet.I also have Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot and the Hellion shoes provides slightly better/similar support for my arch compared to my Five Ten shoes. Granted, my Five Ten shoes were pretty worn when I switched to the Hellions, so this might be a new shoe vs. old shoe difference. All I know is I can ride longer before my foot starts to hurt with the Hellions. I know new insoles can help with arch support, but it is nice when the shoe comes with some decent support out of the box. If you have arch issues, insoles would be a good move.Honestly, I can’t really imagine how they could make this shoe better at this point in time. After I have had them for several more months some issues might arise, but for now they have exceeded all expectations. Everything is very well thought out, very minimal stitching, a reinforced toe area, and reinforced holes for the laces to go through. This shoe was designed to last!PROS-Amazing Grip that has yet to show any signs of wear-Sleek and clean look.-Reinforced toe cover area is a nice plus. Every once in a while, my toes punch the ground or go into a rock by accident, so it is a nice feature.-Rounded shoe laces are a plus, I usually don’t like flat laces for riding shoes.-The shoe also has reinforced holes for the laces.CONS-Could have better arch support, but that is more of an issue with my foot, not an issue for everyone.-They look too cool for their own good- I honestly don’t have any cons at this time… Time will tell.
