Excellent battery life means you can game comfortably for long sessions. The volume adjustment for changing chat and game volume levels was easy to figure out as well.The RIG 900 Max HX's audio is a high point. I found it to be a bit bass-heavy with its stock profile, but not nearly as overwhelmingly so as, say, Beats headphones tend to be. I don't prefer that, but adjusting the EQ is easy in the RIG app and I appreciated having different levels of granularity in tweaking the settings, from EQ to mic gain. As someone who isn't an audio professional by any means, I would say that subjectively I felt these headphones had a good dynamic range and that the stock profile was pretty enjoyable.Dolby Atmos personalization is the most exceptional aspect of this headset's audio by far though, as the RIG 900 Max HX is the only headset to my knowledge with this feature. I initially thought it to be a tad gimmicky, but setting it up was fun and it's certainly unique. Even people who aren't picky about their audio will find it to be a novel experience - I can't think of any similar level of personalization where scanning is involved at all. That said, it wasn't particularly useful for me in gaming as I don't play many of the Dolby Atmos-supported games. While it did improve my experience somewhat, it didn't blow me away. On the other hand, I was very impressed when listening to media (and especially music). It makes a massive improvement as a casual listener and I found myself really appreciating how much it helped with immersion. In my opinion, most people will find this feature to be *the* feature for this headset.The microphone, sadly, is just average. Again, I'm no audiophile - but even I can tell the microphone is mediocre. It's good enough for calls, but as a quiet speaker, I had to adjust the mic gain quite a bit for it to be usable. It doesn't do a good job of reducing background noise, so if you're a PC gamer (or have a particularly loud controller) you will find your keyboard/controller sounds are still audible to anyone on call with you, especially if your mic gain is turned up. Phone and Discord calls were otherwise pretty smooth in my testing, and Discord of course has background noise suppression that somewhat helps with the lack thereof in this headset. That said, anyone hoping to use this for streaming will absolutely need to invest in a separate, better mic.I was not wowed by the packaging, which was a little underwhelming. That isn't something I usually heavily focus on, but it didn't jump out to me as "premium" or anything which felt a bit of a letdown given the "Max" (or Pro, as it confusingly was called in some places) name. I know Apple's branding is considerably different compared to RIG's, but when I compare the Airpods Max's unboxing experience to the RIG 900 Max HX's, one certainly does feel more "max" and it isn't the RIG 900. I felt that the included cable was a bit cheap-feeling and retained some kinking/memory from the box, which isn't the biggest problem as you can easily get higher quality USB-C cables anywhere but was still disappointing and took away from what otherwise is a very premium-feeling headset with a premium-feeling set of features. A part of me feels that it surely couldn't have been that much more expensive to include a more luxe black braided cable, but I can recognize that I am nitpicking here.Overall, the RIG 900 Pro HX is a great gaming headset and would make most gamers happy. Feature-rich and with a solid build quality, it's also comfortable, has a long battery life, and sounds awesome when gaming or watching/listening to media. The Dolby Atmos personalization is a humongous cherry on top and will likely be the main draw of this headset. Some things detract from the otherwise premium feel of this headset, but they're rather minor. Additionally, most people using this headset will be using it for gaming and in-game calls, not streaming or any other tasks that require a quality mic. Thus, I'm confident in recommending people give these a go especially if you are curious about Dolby Atmos.

I have had a lot of ups and downs so far with the RIG 900 Max HX. The flip to mute mic is crisp and clear, and it is well built with a nice metal headband and dual material ear cups for better comfort and sound deadening. I really like the higher end RIG headset design with the magnetic recharge base that doubles as the wireless transmitter when you plug the dongle into it. When I first plugged the base station in, I charged the headset and began using it. It sounded great right out of the box and everything was working as intended. Since that first day however I have had several issues with it that I have been unable to resolve making me wonder if I either have a defective headset or it’s just not ready for prime time. Now, every time I turn on my Xbox Series X the headset will begin to lose connection with the transmitter over and over again. It will disconnect, state that it is searching, reconnect, and repeat constantly without ever stopping. I unplug the base, power cycle the headset, and nothing will stop the constant connection breaking until I actually restart my Xbox. The RIG 800 HX that these are replacing never did such a thing in over a year of ownership so it can’t possibly be my Xbox causing it. Even after restarting the console, it will stop disconnecting but will still start to suffer sound quality issues instead. It’s baffling. If it weren’t for the problems I’ve been having with it, I’d have recommended this headset to everyone since on paper and for my first day using it it seemed just about perfect. It even has Bluetooth for taking phone calls while you play. Maybe I’ll eventually be able to troubleshoot it more and get things working right but as it stands I am very disappointed and frustrated with it feel like there are better options out there.

While it makes the wearer look like an air traffic controller, it is surprisingly light and fits comfortably even over hats and glasses. The foam earcups are soft and have a medium opening leaving the foam to press softly on top of the user's ears (as opposed to encircling the whole ear). First, the headset sits on the dock the opposite direction that is expected. The user should be able to lift the headset off of their head and place it directly onto the dock. But, nope - you have to turn the headset around to nestle it correctly upon the dock. And, even when the headset is flipped around and facing the correct direction, never once did it start charging immediately. Every single time I set the headset into the dock, I had to twist and jostle the headset to get the charging to begin. Luckily there is a USB-C port on the headset - so, I recommend simply plugging in the headset to charge.The Headset can technically sync to multiple devices at the same time, but you cannot move seamlessly between audio sources. You can select Game Mode, Bluetooth, or Dual. One would expect that Dual would allow you to jump back and forth between two sources. Mostly wrong. If you receive a phone call while playing a game, the audio switches automatically when you answer the call - and returns to the game when you hang up. But, you cannot use you're phone while it is connected to Game, or Dual mode. If you want to watch a Video on your phone while you wait for a game to load (or if you need to pull up a YouTube game tutorial), the phone will refuse to play the video until you switch the headset into Bluetooth mode. Hopefully RIG will correct this problem with a software update.Adjusting settings is also quite frustrating as the buttons on the headset are all completely flat and have no tactile feel. After a while, you get the general idea of where the buttons are, but every time you need to swap between game volume and chat volume (as they share a single knob) - you are left feeling all over the side of the earcup trying to find where the button actually sits. It would have been extremely easy to raise the buttons so they can actually be felt and used more easily, but sadly - RIG completely dropped the ball.Mic Monitoring is lackluster and often only works when the headset is connected to the Mobile App. Several times the headset lost its connection to my XBOX while moving between Game & Chat volume modes. Power-cycling the headset does not fix the issue - leaving me scrambling to fix the audio mid game by disconnecting the USB from the Xbox and restoring the connection.Overall, I don't feel as though the premium price is justified. The flat buttons are a constant annoyance, I absolutely hate not being able to use the headset with my phone (unless I jump back and forth between Bluetooth and Game Modes), and the docking station isn't worth using. I simply cannot recommend the RIG 900 Max HX Dual Wireless Gaming Headset as there are less expensive headsets that work much more seamlessly.

And, even when the headset is flipped around and facing the correct direction, never once did it start charging immediately. Every single time I set the headset into the dock, I had to twist and jostle the headset to get the charging to begin. Luckily there is a USB-C port on the headset - so, I recommend simply plugging in the headset to charge.The Headset can technically sync to multiple devices at the same time, but you cannot move seamlessly between audio sources. You can select Game Mode, Bluetooth, or Dual. One would expect that Dual would allow you to jump back and forth between two sources. Mostly wrong. If you receive a phone call while playing a game, the audio switches automatically when you answer the call - and returns to the game when you hang up. But, you cannot use you're phone while it is connected to Game, or Dual mode. If you want to watch a Video on your phone while you wait for a game to load (or if you need to pull up a YouTube game tutorial), the phone will refuse to play the video until you switch the headset into Bluetooth mode. Hopefully RIG will correct this problem with a software update.Adjusting settings is also quite frustrating as the buttons on the headset are all completely flat and have no tactile feel. After a while, you get the general idea of where the buttons are, but every time you need to swap between game volume and chat volume (as they share a single knob) - you are left feeling all over the side of the earcup trying to find where the button actually sits. It would have been extremely easy to raise the buttons so they can actually be felt and used more easily, but sadly - RIG completely dropped the ball.Mic Monitoring is lackluster and often only works when the headset is connected to the Mobile App. Several times the headset lost its connection to my XBOX while moving between Game & Chat volume modes. Power-cycling the headset does not fix the issue - leaving me scrambling to fix the audio mid game by disconnecting the USB from the Xbox and restoring the connection.Overall, I don't feel as though the premium price is justified. The flat buttons are a constant annoyance, I absolutely hate not being able to use the headset with my phone (unless I jump back and forth between Bluetooth and Game Modes), and the docking station isn't worth using. I simply cannot recommend the RIG 900 Max HX Dual Wireless Gaming Headset as there are less expensive headsets that work much more seamlessly.

The one time I waited too long to charge between gaming sessions, I plugged it in for 15 minutes, and it gave me another 2 hours of play time. I really like the flip to mute mic. That is a must have for me. I also own the Microsoft gaming headphones. Those they have some great features they do not have a flip-to-mute mic. The Microsoft headphones do not require any dongle to connect to the Xbox. Unfortunately, the RIG 900 MAX HX does require the use of a USB dongle to connect to the Xbox. The mic on the RIG seems to be noise isolating. My Microsoft headphones pick up all ambient background sounds from my environment, but the Rig 900 Max HX only picks up my voice.My one complaint is that they changed how the chat and master volume sounds are adjusted and the power button.On the RIG 800 LX, there is a dedicated master volume dial and a dedicated chat volume dial. On the RIG 900 Max, there is only a master volume dial. They included a button on the headset that temporarily switches the master volume dial into a chat volume dial. This makes it much harder to adjust chat and game volume easily. In addition, the buttons they use are flush with the headset, so they are nearly impossible to find by feel alone.If buying a new pair of RIG 800 LX was still an option, i would take those over the 900 Max HX any day. Unfortunately, they stopped making the 800 LX and the comparable options all now seem to be missing the chat dial.But for anyone that wants the option of connecting via Bluetooth, this model is a good choice.

I’ve been playing Black Ops 6 and Warzone and so far I could hear everything that I need to get dubs. So far no complaints.The comfort is top tier. I get no ear or head fatigue after playing a good 8+ hours of gaming. The adjustments are simple and works. I don’t have a large head but I put the cups at its max size adjustments and it just floats perfectly. Comfort is so much better than my Astros.The charging doc is better than what the Astros had by the better design. Sometimes on my Astros I’ll put them on my doc and they never charged. The 900HX falls right where they need to be every single time. The battery life is nice with 50 hours and I never run out of battery since the doc takes care of that.The only reason I’m giving them a 4 out of 5 is that I was hoping these were simultaneous Bluetooth. They are not. That’s it. They can connect but only if you want to use the app, and if you want to listen to music you can but you can’t hear game sound. The app works good and the sound EQ adjustment work well.Overall Great sound, Amazing comfort, just wish they were simultaneous with Bluetooth.
I've had this for a few months now.Its in my top 3 of gaming headsets I've used.The switching between game audio and party audio is wonky. You have to press the button above the volume dial and it speaks saying what its doing everytime. Which is nice so I know what Im changing. But is annoying when i'm trying to have a conversation and cant hear the other person when it speaks.Picking it up off the charger and It automatically turning on is such a nice feature. First point of annoyance is the charging cradle, it requires two hands and full focus to set it in properly, surely they could have found a better way. On my old headset I used a magnetic charging cable which way more convenient. These feel similar, but going to a button instead of a switch is a real pain for changing settings in the go, especially chat mixer while gaming. I am having random disconnects from the USB, which re-pairing can't seem to solve. The charging dock does have a nice solid led status light letting you know when the headset is fully charged. The RIG 900 comes with a flip down flip up mic. Mic sound quality is crystal clear and vocals come in with no issues on the other end. The sound quality of the headset is surprisingly good, and i mean real good. The bass is deep and full but never once overpowers my treble or highs. Since i have been hooked on Starfield lately the bass has added to a deeper immersion as i can hear the roar of the grav drive engines or chest thumbing blast from my firearms. As far as FPS goes the Dolby Atmos helps make this headset a fair competitor allowing you to be able to properly pick up direction and distance of certain sounds such as footsteps and gunfire. You can also download the free RIG app which also allows further customization to your EQ settings. One feature i noticed in the app in regards to the EQ settings is the added feature of "Expert Mode". Basically what RIG did was a provided a starting easy mode which is basically a 3 band equalizer which really helps simplify things for those that are audio challenged. Now if you don't fit in to that category simply select "Expert Mode" and you are now given a 10 band EQ set up.I have to honestly say i personally have never been a big fan of the earlier RIG line ups. I have personally owned older RIG models and the biggest issue i have had with them was comfort and sound. The 900 series did such a amazing job that they are actually my new go to. The lightweight steel headband and self adjusting foam head strap mean i can play for hours on end without experiencing any discomfort. The deep earcups mean that just about all ear sizes should fit with no discomfort. Speaking of the foam earcups, for those of you that wear glasses this earcup is probably one of the better foam fitting pieces as they easily adhere to eye glass frames all without adding any more pressure to your head. And with the price point these headsets come in at, this truly should be an easy buy.

For that and switch compatibility, these sounded great! Out of the box day one issues were, connectivity both with console and bluetooth no matter how connected. The bluetooth and audio source selection button completely stoped functioning. Ten minutes into trying to set these up, the mic no longer wanted to shutoff when in the full upright position despite the beeps happening to indicate it was off. When the mic is on it is nothing but constant static and gargled audio. If you played with the wiring between ear cups even a hair it got worse. They have a very strong lightweight frame and the adjustment and wear system is one I've never seen or used before as you are basically snapping in each cup in one of three positions and a connected, elastic band stretches to fit on your head for a secure fit. I found the headphones incredibly light and comfortable. They do not move when playing and I was able to play for hours in complete comfort. Compared to my HyperX headphones which are known for their long playing time comfort, I would say the RIG headphones are very comparable but just a touch less comfortable which is still high praise. They are more comfortable than every other set I've tried except the HyperX.Connecting to my Windows 11 PC was as easy as could be. Once you select "PC" on the USB dongle and pop it in, it is immediately recognized as "Xbox Controller" by your PC. One thing I must note and I like is that when you turn off your headphones or they time out and auto turn off, the USB dongle also powers down and disconnects from the PC. Most USB dongle based headphones keep the dongle powered on even if the headphones are powered down and this can shorten its life as I've had several pairs of lesser wireless headphones start to fail because the USB dongle starts to fail as it continues to stay powered on regardless of whether you are using your headphones or not.You can use them straight away and this is what I did for awhile to get a feel for them listening to various music tracks and watching some Youtube videos and a few snippets of movies. They are good but once you download and install Dolby Atmos from the Microsoft store they go from being good to great.The headphones are immediately recognized by the Dolby Atmos app and pre-licensed so if you don't have the $15 license it is no problem as it is included for free with your RIG headphones. All comparative testing is with Dolby Atmos enabled as that is how the headphones are truly designed to work.For the audiophiles out there, I use four specific tracks to target and test the lows, mids and highs. These are Kitaro's "Caravansary" (Highs, mids and lows balanced mix), The Spinner's "The Rubberband Man" (mids for the string "twang" clarity), Yu Ya Huang's "3AM" (highs) and Lil Wayne's "6x9" (lows). I used the music preset for Dolby Atmos for all testing.The RIG headphones passed all the tests. Were they as good as a set of mid or upper end Seinnhauser or good as the bass thumping of my Detox cans? No, but they were more than passable for casual listening as everything had decent seperation along with decent bass "thump" and good highs. They passed the Yu Ya Huang "3AM" treble smasher test which is setting the volume to greater than 65% volume. Many lesser pairs of headphones will distort badly on some of the extreme high parts. They were able to handle the low "thump" of Lil Wayne's "6x9" admirably but they did lack that next level punch the Beats can deliver on all levels even through the mids for richness and bass. I loved hearing the great mids of The Spinner's "The Rubberband Man" as the rubberband twang sounds were clear and distinct and not muddled. This all comes together in Kitaro's "Caranvansary" which is a great complement of all three and provided a lovely listening experience that was more than passable for the casual audiophile. These are not for Bass lovers or true audiophiles but for the vast majority they are more than passable.As decent as these are for music, gaming is truly where they shine. I used the Dolby Atmos Game preset for all testing.I went through several pairs of gaming headphones before deciding on my HyperX Wireless over a year ago due to not only their extreme comfort but well balanced soundscape that seemed to tailor specifically to games revealing sounds not heard on many lesser gaming headphones. The RIG headphones elevate that to another level in seperation and bringing forth little nuanced sounds I never realized were in the games I routinely play which are Fallout 76 and World of Warcraft (current Xpac is Dragonflight).I quickly found myself going through my daily events, quests and activities stopping to marvel at new sounds I never heard before. From subtle objects in the wind to new spatial enemy sounds to even the clank of armor and rustling of grass being more defined and pronounced. Everything was just more front and center and engrossing. I even loaded up Starfield to replay the first few hours to compare and the sound enhancements are nothing short of breathtaking compared to my HyperX. In short, they are impressive for gaming....very impressive.I'm not a huge fan of the dock charging connector as sometimes it doesn't take when seating them and you'll have to move them around a bit from time to time to get them to connect and get the light to blink for charging. Luckily, they also come with a direct USB-C connector on the headphones which is greatly appreciated. I do use the dock for charging as it is easier to just slap and wiggle them a little and have them charging than fishing for the cable to plug in.So in the end, are they worth $250? Depends on your budget and what you expect out of a pair of gaming headphones. If you truly want an upper tier pair of lightweight gaming headphones with good audio playback and great gaming with Dolby Atmos support to boot you get what you pay for and in this case you will not be disappointed with the RIG 900 MAX HX for PC gaming but if budget is a concern you will need to look elsewhere as these are not inexpensive.As for myself, I will continue to use them and for now, I have officially replaced my HyperX Wireless.Recommended.
