The ring Belle app always discovered the WIFI but would load to 95 percent then give a message that there was no internet on my connection. I do however receive notifications on my phone from other ring bell Neighor’s on the ring neighor program so I know that it isn’t me, my WiFi, my ringbell app, or anything other than a pre sold item that was returned then resold to me. The reason I know this is because my Neighor’s have all the same specs with no ring bell issues. I found on the box that there should have been a wall mount because it says it’s in included along with the other things that were in my box. Also the scratches on the face of the unit with protective tape over it I assume to protect from scratches must have been placed back after it was used then returned so that I had this experience. There was a yellow sticker with my name when I picked up the package. It looks as if it’s a inspection sticker to prevent this from happening. I call a diff store of course the store where I picked up never answers the phone unless your a pro-customer and even sometimes they don’t answer that one. I guess they also don’t always check before the inspection is added to add confidence that like the other store informed me, they don’t reshelve items like this to make sure it doesn’t happen.

This is the first video doorbell I have purchased. I would not recommend this product. Physical installation was easy. The video provided is clear and you get updates on your phone with very little delay however that is completely dependent on your connectivity to the internet or Wi-Fi. If you are at a concert or large sporting event and connectivity is spotty don't expect to catch the notification someone is at your door. The drawbacks first and foremost is that this does not come with physical instructions. You have to get instructions off of the internet. Additionally, the instructions are not very clear and I had to first charge and set up my Ring before it was installed which meant that I had to choose the battery powered option even though it was going to be ... MoreThis is the first video doorbell I have purchased. It would not allow me to choose the electricity option because it did not detect electricity. Also about 2 hours after installation my door bell chime on the inside of my house rang and then started buzzing even though it is compatible with this device. It worked fine the first two hours but again you have to set that up before it is hooked up. The manufacture needs to include physical instructions since the price of this is greater than $75 and work on the setup process.

Our original purpose for investing in a Ring Video Camera Doorbell was to enhance our home security. A family member recommended the Echo Show 5 as it was on sale during Black Friday at an irresistible price, especially bundled with the Doorbell Video Camera. Needless to say, the Echo Show 5 and Alexa afford so much more than alerting us to what is happening at our front door. There are microphones so one may converse with whomever may be there if desired. And then ..... one may request to listen to a favorite music album or just a single song, watch a movie, make a grocery list, set up your Smart Home, ask Alexa almost anything you may ask of Google and the list goes on and on. We greatly underutilize the Echo Show 5, but we have time to look into all that it offers and set it up accordingly. Our immediate concern was enhancing our home security. It seems our world has become a much more dangerous place almost over night. We are very happy with the additional peace of mind the Ring Video Camera Doorbell affords us. We highly recommend it.

Almost Everything I Wished For

Battery makes this Ring doorbell very flexible, meaning you don’t have to worry about running or paying an electrician to run wires. At the same time, it also offers the flexibility of using existing wiring which will make you free from worrying about the battery life. Also, if you already have another Ring or other smart doorbell and you want to try this one before you decide it is worth the swapping, you can just use the battery option. I tested with either with battery and wire options and ended up opting for wired.Resolution is very good and although it is not 4K, the quality makes up for it, especially when you compare with cheap 4K ones you find out there. The resolution probably helps the motion detection which is excellent. On top of that, it sees in color even at night. The field of view is the best I’ve seen for a smart doorbell, and it is great to see head to toe as they advertise. On the other hand, it is disappointing that it doesn’t support Pre-Roll and Advanced Pre-Roll which would enable you to view a few seconds before the motion event by attaching it to the event clip.Another con is that it doesn’t support Wi-Fi at 5Ghz. It is a common thing with a lot of IoT devices, but it is nice to have the option. I would have opted for 5Ghz. But what really bothers me is that it requires a subscription to unlock more features and that includes something very basic: recording. In any case, the best smart doorbells always require a subscription and unfortunately, it makes sense since recording online is usually more reliable unless you lose connectivity and that’s when I wish it had some form of local backup.Lastly, despite the cons above, I really like it.

Feature Rich

This is a very good doorbell that has so many features, it is hard to cover them all. Most of the features are controller by the well-made but cluttered app.Installation:Installation for this is very easy. There is a back plate that is screwed into the wall with the included screws. I have vinyl siding, and it was easy to make pilot holes there for the plate’s screws to go and screwing the plate onto the wall. The doorbell then mounts onto the plate and that is it. After installing the app, you can easily add the device by following the instructions which involves using the pairing button on the device and having the app search for it. After installing the app, you can easily add the device by following the instructions which involves using the pairing button on the device and having the app search for it. Then it asks you questions like where the doorbell is located. That’s it. And there are plenty of installation videos online if you have any questions about it. It worked for me the first time without trouble.App:The app has a ton of features and adjustments that can be made, but unfortunately is not organized very well. I have often had to go to the Internet to find where a certain feature of setting is in the app. You can watch live video, previously recorded videos, change settings for each camera, view Neighbors feature (more on that later), and reboot cameras. You can watch live video and recordings from your home network or remotely when not home.Integration With Alexa:You can integrate the doorbell with Alexa that allows you to see the images, using the two-way intercom, and alert you when the doorbell rings. If you have an Alexa which I do, you won’t need to buy an external chime, which they do sell. Configuring it with Alexa and is easy; it works the same way as any other device to the Alexa app. I would almost say that the Alexa is needed to fully enjoy the doorbell.Video Quality:The video quality is very good considering it is a video doorbell. The camera has a far distance, but don’t expect to see any details far away. While you can easily make out a face that is looking directly at the doorbell, you won’t be able to make out any faces for people walking on the other side of the street, even if they are looking at you. The app does allow you to zoom in by pinching the image on the screen, it helps to better see larger objects, but you still won’t be able to make out any faces. The night vision works well and is basically equal to the image quality during the day. This is impressive. I do have a floodlight at the front of the house so that may help the night vision work better. The image quality on the Alexa is good and is really the equivalent to what you would see in the app. You can see the full length of the person but don’t expect to see packages right in front of your door.Sound Quality:There is a two-way intercom between the doorbell and the app, or Alexa. Sound quality is very good and easy to hear on both the app, Alexa, and the doorbell itself. By default, Alexa won’t use the microphone for the two-way intercom until you press a button on the screen. This is good for privacy but requires an extra step to use.Recording:You must have the cloud service for the camera to record. There is no card slot for it. Any video is recorded to the cloud for viewing later in the app. The first thing to note is that you can set the amount of time you want to record after the camera is triggered. I have this set to 2 minutes because once the time expires, even if there is still a person moving within view, the recording stops. Of course, the tradeoff to longer recordings is reducing battery life. In the app, you can view either the camera live or rewind it to a previous point. By dragging the scrollbar to the left, you can see past videos. That easy. The scrollbar also indicates where in time there is video that has been recoded. The app allows you to zoom in to the video which is very helpful if there is a certain area of the camera’s view you are interested in seeing more detail.Motion Sensing and Video Recording:This is probably one of the weaker features of this. It will start recording objects it detects moving. For larger objects like vehicles, it can always detect motion and record it. For smaller objects that are father away such as animals and people down the street, it will not trigger a recording, even if you can see it in the video. The other problem is that you can set the time you want the video to record. Once that time elapses, it will stop recording. That is also true if a person is still moving within the video. So, if someone is walking back and forth in front of your property, you will only get a recording for as long as you have the time set for. To mitigate this, I set the recording time to a very large number, basically two minutes.Paid Service:There is a paid service that costs $100/year that allows you to see videos that were recorded in the past since they are recorded to the cloud. The videos are available up to 30 days later and can be seen in the app. I think there is a way to download them, but I honestly haven’t tried it.Neighbors:Neighbors is a feature that allows you to post videos online for others to see it. When someone posts something within your neighborhood, you can get notified of it. This is good for seeing crime at neighbor’s houses, or any cute furry animals that get recorded. It only gives you the approximate location for privacy reasons. You can opt out of this feature, but I would recommend it.Answer Remotely:This doorbell allows you to answer remotely on your phone. If you are away from home, your phone will notify you if the doorbell rings and you can answer it from anywhere, as if you are home. This is great if you are not home, but someone comes to the door, and you want them to think you are home but can’t get to the door. You will also know who rings your doorbell while you are away. While I use this all the time, the biggest problem if that when your phone notifies you, you have to get out your phone, unlock it, and then answer, and the person may have moved on. This has happened quite frequently.Overall, this is a very good camera, with good video and sound quality. It has a ton of features, but unfortunately the app is not well laid out to find a lot of things, and you must pay for their cloud service to record anything. I would recommend it, especially if you have an Alexa which it works great with. This is almost a necessity. This is a crowded space, and I have not used any competitors to determine if there are better options out there.

The image of people is clear enough to be a good identifier. Connection is now through 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz (802.11 b/g/n/ax). I chose 5.0 GHz as this is a better connection for streaming video. The night vision has improved, and the picture is clear day or night. You can now zoom in with the app even on this entry-level doorbell camera. You get added features with Smart Alerts for people and packages (subscription required, sold separately – you do get a free trial version).Installation is simple with charging the camera, mounting the backplate and snapping the camera to the backplate. Then you setup the app and go through the walkthrough on the app.I prefer to have a battery that you can swap out, especially since your camera is out of commission while it is charging, but at the price, one can probably deal with this inconvenience. Since I share a camera and access with my son, where we can act as backups for one another, it would be nice if we had the option to make the other person an admin so all the features are available at our discretion. Having limited control when we prefer to have all features available when sharing limits tweaking certain features or customization for different situations. It is not the prettiest camera out there, and some of the competition, instead of using a fisheye lens, have multiple cameras on their unit, but I find the fisheye squarish picture adequate, and the limited distortion of people that the videos the camera takes is good for identification and most people wouldn’t even notice any distortion especially centered in the framing. The head to toe view and zoom in are nice additions to this entry level doorbell camera.

Good video quality, poor battery life
27 September 2024

I’ve been a Ring customer for many years now, and have found their products and ecosystem to be very reliable and affordable. This is the first time I have tried a battery powered camera, the rest of my collection are all wired. I have to say that while the overall performance of this new battery doorbell is good, it pales in comparison to the wired counterparts I have installed in other locations at my home. I installed this on a secondary entrance to my house that does not have any way to hardwire a doorbell, and it is very close to a mesh unit for my wifi. However, in spite of the nearby WiFi it regularly disconnects, and when it doesn’t have internet issues it simply misses motion entirely. I installed this on a secondary entrance to my house that does not have any way to hardwire a doorbell, and it is very close to a mesh unit for my wifi. However, in spite of the nearby WiFi it regularly disconnects, and when it doesn’t have internet issues it simply misses motion entirely. I have exited my house from this particular door a few times since installing it and it has completely missed me passing right in front of it more than once. The motion sensitivity setting is even set to be at a higher level than my other cameras that never miss a beat. It just feels a lot less reliable than what I’m used to from years of experience with my other Ring devices. Its not all bad however, as the build quality and video quality are both excellent. It feels premium and the head-to-toe video is a nice thing to have matching up with my other doorbell which is the pro model that also shares that feature. It charges with USB-C on the backside which requires removing it from the mounting plate when needed. It does not include any sort of wedge to change the angle at the install location so I had to buy an adapter separately to get the angle I needed which is also unfortunate. Setup was simple and quick and installing it including mounting my adapter was easy. You can hardwire this doorbell optionally if you have the ability to do so, and I would recommend that if you can. But for those who cannot, the battery life appears to be less than stellar as mine is at 64% after less than a week of being installed having put a full charge on it first and only having recorded half a dozen motion events in that time. Motion detection is spotty, and it can take quite a while longer to wake it up for a live view than on the wired one I have. It is overall better than other video doorbells I have used from competitors, but not as good as Ring’s own offerings from higher up on the ladder which makes sense. My own experience may be slightly skewed due to the hardwired nature of my other devices making this one feel like it’s hampered in comparison, but I also feel like there are certainly worse options out there which is why I’d still recommend this doorbell depending on your individual situation. What this proves to me is that hard wiring is still king but given no other options it’ll still do a decent job with a few drawbacks.

Great Performance limited by a build issue

The new 2024 version of the ring Battery Doorbell has excellent features similar to the prior Plus version, at a reduced price. The differences are mostly cosmetic and a built-in rechargeable battery rather than a removable rechargeable battery. The key features include:*Wi-Fi 2.5 connectivity.*High quality HD video, 1440x1440. What you see is sharp and clear, including color night vision.*Head-to-toe video coverage provides viewing of a large area, 150 degrees horizontal and vertical. Whomever is at your door can be seen, even if they step to the side.*Upgraded motion detection. Motion zone can be modified to less or more area.*Improved two-way audio, with noise cancellation. This is definitely a plus.*Package Alerts are a safe way of learning a package has been placed at your door. Depending on placement, small packages may be overlooked. In any event, you would have had notification someone had been at the door.*Quickly attaches to Alexa. The pop-up picture-in-picture feature is great if you are watching TV, when the doorbell is rung.Once you have mounted the holding plate, the doorbell can be slipped on and locked into place in seconds. Later, when you need to remove the doorbell for charging, that is easily done….if you have not misplaced the little orange tool provided. Be sure to keep it where you can find it when needed. This doorbell is another useful product from ring, so why only 4 stars? Until now, the ring’s battery is easily removed from the device by pressing a small flange (front bottom) and pulling the battery out for recharging. When done, you slide the battery back in, make sure the flange is locked, and then the doorbell is back in service. The process is quite easy to accomplish. One important thing to remember is that when the doorbell is without power, it is not providing protection. Recharging the battery takes a long time. This downtime inconvenience can be eliminated by having a spare battery to keep your doorbell in service. Easy! Now, with the built-in battery, the entire doorbell must be unmounted, opened, and plugged in for charging. No easy battery recharge access is available otherwise. With the “pop-out” low battery and “pop-in” charged battery process, your doorbell is out of service for a few seconds. Comparatively, the built-in battery format is neither user-friendly, nor is it providing any service during its charging time. With all the greatness otherwise, this battery situation seems to be a big step backwards. When the battery is down, the entire device is down. This means protection is down, too. There is a solar charger available for an older model, so why not this one? Even so, unless the doorbell is in direct sun, the solar charger would not be effective.Workwise, this is a splendid video doorbell at an economical price, and I would recommend it to a friend. However, being a friend, I would also feel obliged to provide notice of the battery charging matter. Personally, I will stay with my ring Battery Pro doorbell that I Battery Pro doorbell that I have had for several months, primarily for the battery out/in charging convenience. Either way, ring is quality.

Integrated battery, full removal for charging
4 October 2024

This is our 3rd ring product in our ecosystem, we also have a wired flood light and battery powered stick up camera. This doorbell was easy to add to our app, just charge it when you get it, once you detach it from the power cord, it will automatically enter pairing mode for you to join it from the app. If the paring mode does time out, you can still scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell to also get it added to the ring app that way as well.Since my door molding is not wide enough to mount the camera to, I do have the ring's siding mount coming in the mail. For testing, we held the camera against the siding and took a photo to figure out what height we will need to mount this at when the siding mount does arrive. For testing, we held the camera against the siding and took a photo to figure out what height we will need to mount this at when the siding mount does arrive. Overall, the view didn't seem to change moving the camera higher or lower by a foot in either direction.I did take stars off for 3 reasons, 1) because this has an integrated battery, once the battery needs to be replaced, you will basically need to toss the entire device and purchase a new one, instead of just getting a new replacement battery; 2) the battery did lose 6% in 9 days without anyone "ringing" the bell or us using the live view feature more than 2-3 times & to charge the battery, you need to use a special removal tool (in the box) to detach it from the mount to bring the entire doorbell into the house for charging, and 3) the kit didn't come with a mount to attach this device to siding, so I have a separate order with that mount coming in the mail/separate purchase. If all of these annoy you as well, then look at the pro-grade cameras...for now, the pro version still has a replaceable battery that can easily be swapped in without having to remove your doorbell every 30, 60, or 90 days to charge it.

Ring Drops a Quality Battery Doorbell WiFi Camera
29 September 2024

Ring is well established as the leader in doorbell & security cameras. They offer many models of doorbell cameras, each with unique features. This Smart Wifi Video Doorbell is ideal for a second entrance, since it is battery operated & often the second entrance is not wired to power a doorbell. This doorbell camera is outfitted with a fisheye lens that enables head to toe viewing, albeit at slightly more distortion on the edges than a conventional lens that would only show a narrower field of vision. This Ring doorbell camera offers excellent low light capability & very good image quality. However, as I walk past the camera it occasionally misses me & simply does not capture my movement. I checked my WiFi at the doorbell; I receive excellent signal strength there. The primary concern I have with this doorbell camera is that the internal Li-ion rechargeable battery is not removable. This means you have to keep (and not lose) the unique curved tool that is included, and use it to remove this doorbell camera from the wall mounting bracket, plug the doorbell into a USB-C cable (included) & plug the cable into a USB-C wall adaptor. After charging, remove this doorbell camera from the cable & snap it back on to the wall mounting bracket.CONCLUSION:This Ring Smart Wifi Video Doorbell is improved over last year's model; however I recommend wiring this doorbell if at all possible in your application. If that is not possible, Ring offers a solar adaptor that fits behind the doorbell. Wiring eliminates removing the doorbell to charge the battery & provides a more robust connection. I recommend this doorbell; Ring manufactures quality products & this doorbell is no exception.
