Really excellent device, sometimes seems to lose its routing, but it could be my fault, still learning.

Seems to be very good quality. Haven't given it a full test yet, however it doesn't struggle with the hot signal of my external preamp (the reason I bought it) like the Apollo Twin does. No clipping at the interface which is great.

Amazing interface

I have used a firefice ufx before this one, and i can say this new interface is the same quality, just less channels, therefore totalmix fx and digicheck make the big difference between this brand and all the others. Great job RME

Beautiful Sounding, Powerful Interface

I use this device in conjunction with Logic Pro on a 2021 MBP to record, mix, monitor, and master in stereo and sometimes 5.1, mostly for video soundtracks. It has a clear, clean, open sound that accurately reflects even subtle changes in mix and plugin settings. The accompanying TotalMix software has very powerful routing options, and once it is configured, makes it easy to switch between stereo and 5.1. For those relatively new to recording and mixing, be aware that this is a professional grade tool. For what it can do, it is very simple to operate, but you can expect a learning curve to absorb the concepts behind TotalMix. For more of a plug-and-play experience in Logic that will also deliver fine sound but with fewer input and routing options, look to Apogee.

It Just Works

I've used Universal Audio, Apogee, Motu, and even Lynx interfaces over the years (30 years) - and I have now had this RME Ucx ii for two weeks, and I can see why RME owners are so loyal, and why these devices get great reviews - the stuff just works, and it's just so apparent how much thought went into the design. And the mic pres are actually no joke - they sound great, and they have tons of clean gain. I'm also pretty impressed by the quality of the DSP internal effects - I think the compression + delay/reverb sound great! The EQ? Eh, whatever... FabFilter. No dropouts, no glitches, no hiccups. Obviously, it's only been a couple of weeks, but the fact that I feel the desire to write a review must show something, as there are plenty of other things I could be doing right now w my time, including music production work - which now feels that much more joyful.Lynx is definitely one small step above conversion-wise, but honestly - the difference is pretty nominal. I use a Lynx Aurora (n) + an Api 2448 at work, and I feel the stuff is translating really well to this RME.I purchased this UCX ii because I was using an Apogee Element at home, and they basically stopped supporting it and discontinued the product, and it works very poorly with a Macbook M1pro. Glitchy - slow - crashes. The RME sounds as good if not better than that and just works - not a single hiccup in 2 straight weeks of working with heavy sessions. For the size, this thing is a POWERFUL BEAST and has to be the best audio interface in its class. If your thinking about expanding and portability isn't an issue, it may make sense to jump up to the UFX line, you get quite a bit more for another 1K.Enjoy-

Powerful and Great Sounding Interface

I use this with Logic Pro on a 2021 MBP for recording, monitoring, mixing, and mastering in both stereo and 5.1, mostly for scoring and soundtracking. It has a clear, open, sound that accurately represents even very subtle changes to mix, EQ, soundstage, or plugin settings. Mic Preamps sound sweet and clean and will let the character of your mic shine through. The build is solid, and the knob and buttons have a nice click to them. It has a dazzling number of inputs and outputs for its size, and TotalMix gives the user super powerful routing options. Once configured, TotalMix makes it easy to jump between stereo and 5.1. My only caveat is that this is a professional tool, and if you are relatively new to this line of work, there will be a learning curve to understand ... MoreI use this with Logic Pro on a 2021 MBP for recording, monitoring, mixing, and mastering in both stereo and 5.1, mostly for scoring and soundtracking. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it, it is 100% worth it to take the time to learn, and RME has excellent tutorials. This interface will honestly represent what you play through it and will give you the power to create the recording you envision.

Review of RME Fireface UCX II - 40 Channel USB 2.0 Interface
13 January 2023

I love this interface. Really portable, packed with i/o for it's size. Preamps are great. Totally reliable, Instant load in every piece of software. Total mix software is excellent, you do have to spend a few hours getting to know it at first but it's well worth it. DuRec standalone recording is such a great feature, already using it. You can get the same features for much less money with other brands, but I've done that before and after a few years ended up with driver/compatability issues and unreliability issues... from what I read about RME that is very unlikely with this one, so it's worth the extra price imo.Only thing I miss on it is a physical mute button for the main outs would be so useful.

Windows AMD Performance!

After some user-error trouble with me not installing the pin power supply connector correctly (there is a twist/locking mechanism that must be installed correctly) I was finally able to power the unit on...This is my first RME product and my first Windows machine so it took my awhile to find that the Fireface USB settings and TotalMix are both launched via the System Tray (click ^ symbol on the Taskbar). With TotalMix in DAW mode you can use Pro Tools hardware inserts as long as you're using the same Out/In (ex. Send Output 3/Return Input 3). There is no need for calculating latency!I don't know that there is a better unit for Windows based home studio!I'm running Pro Tools 2021.10.0 / Windows 10 / AMD Ryzen 9 5900x / ASUS TUF X570-Plus / 32GB DDR4
