Very good and prompt service by GK. Pick-up was a breeze as I live/work nearby. Went in knowing what I wanted, and was in and out within a couple of minutes with Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island. The game itself is lots of fun, and can be played solo or with a group of up to 4. The amount of cards in each deck of the game, and the fact you only use a portion of them through each play means you have a huge amount of variability and therefore replayability.Learning the game may take a couple hours of reading the rulebook and/or 2-3 playthroughs to get the hang of it, but in the end it is worth it. The game is easy enough to teach once one person knows how to play, so as long as one person is prepared to put a bit of effort into learning the game, ... MoreVery good and prompt service by GK. I have now played through the game about 10 times, solo and with others, and have yet to win. However there are several ways that you can make the game easier/harder on yourself if you want to.All in all, a fun game with heaps of replayability and able to be played solo or with others. Would recommend.

I bought this to play with my brother and other small groups. The game and pieces are well made and sturdy. The game makes sense once you play through it once, but that first play-through can be tedious. I highly recommend finding a YouTube tutorial or walk-through to view before playing the first time. We bailed on the first game to do this and it made the second work much better. Also, I've found this game to be quite challenging with 2 people. FUN, though!

I'll keep this brief. The game is AMAZING. The theme is solid, believable, and deep. While it might seem complex at the get go (I'm a very inexperienced board gamer), it's actually fairly simple to play with each stage being clearly illustrated and indicated on the board and the cards. And you have a TON of choices, from building shelters and tools, to hunting, to exploring, to gathering. However, the game hates you. The game wants you to die, and die quickly. It throws at you every form of misery and disaster that an exotic island in the 1700s could come up with. My wife and I have played two games together, and I've played a few more on my own, and we NEVER win. To make the game more fun, we've begun modifying the rules. The campaigns create mounting tension by means of addition hazards, addition goals, and a time limit (usually like 12 turns). To have fun, we have had to do away with most of the additional hazards, and especially the time limit; we're just not able to see how anyone could get so much done in such a few actions (even with Friday AND the dog). Hopefully we'll get better at the game by playing it, but I just wanted new players to know that it's okay to change some of the rules, if it will help you to enjoy the adventure and keep coming back for more! Or, maybe you just enjoy cooperative dying. If the theme appeals to you, and you can stomach learning a bunch of very intelligent and sensible rules, you will love this game.

Robinson Crusoe Board Game: Adventures On The Cursed Island 4th Edition

It is similar to This war of mine but not so dark. The board is nicely laid and order of play is shown by their individual board section in a logical order. I have so far played the first 4 scenarios on very easy mode, that is adding Friday and Dog. They are tense and I suspect will be difficult to complete in hard mode, but that is my target once I have completed all in easy mode. The game is a worker placement with each character getting two actions. If you allocate two action generally this completes the task without any problems. If only one there is risk of failure injury and an event. But different events can require more actions or the distance from your camp. Each character has different abilities clearly related to their type so Carpenter is good at ... MoreIt is similar to This war of mine but not so dark. But this does mean that sometimes the cook is hunting! Overall a good game and look forward to playing with others.

Great co-op game. Beautiful, high quality components and presentation. There was one tiny piece missing but I emailed Portal, who have replaced it.The rules are fairly lengthy but fairly simple, and mainly seem difficult due to the numerous exceptions in certain situations. I skimmed through the rules and then watched the excellent 45 minute how to play video on the Watch It Played YouTube channel. After that we quickly got into the game phases, and didn't find it any more difficult than say Netrunner or LOTR LCG. As you'll see on the video, the board itself has a lot of reminders on how many actions and resources you need in each situation. The game involves using limited (not enough) actions each turn to firefight against constant threats, while trying to find ... MoreGreat co-op game. And while you're just trying to survive you need to be also doing your main task, which seems nearly impossible as all your time and resources are spent just surviving. We've only tried the first scenario so far, and that involves building a fire to gain the attention of a passing ship. We havent come close to completing this yet. There are several other scenarios that change the story and win condition. I understand there are also many fan made scenarios on the boardgamegeek website.I don't think this will take over from my favourite game, LOTR LCG, but getting brutally killed on a desert island island it makes a nice change from getting brutally killed by trolls in middle earth.

So far I've only played this as a solo game but I am a huge fan. I've run through a couple of the scenarios and have played as a few of the characters. What I've found is that the deep decks and random dice rolls make for a wildly different experience each time. I'm sure there are mechanical steps to follow for better chances of success in each scenario but no plan is foolproof on this unforgiving island. I found myself literally laughing out loud as my (as I perceived it) excellent planning fell apart before my eyes in multiple run throughs. I've won once so far and it was quite gratifying. The board and the story development from the cards you turn over in game lend themselves very well to a cool thematic story and it is easy to get into the narrative that develops through each play.I think that this game is less well suited to younger kids (it says ages 8 up) - there are a decent number of rules/options to consider each turn and it is truly difficult to win. If the kids are less concerned with winning the game and more interested in a story of struggle/survival then no problem but I feel like some will get discouraged before ever experiencing the joy of success. It would be best for you to have a facilitator to help and almost narrate for the kids if you are playing with ones on the younger side.As a co-op, I've heard this game is particularly hard to run through when one person has more experience than the other players - I think my biggest advice for those players is that its probably best to take a back seat and let your companions fall flat a few times as they learn what to be concerned about.Bottom Line - I'm a huge fan of the theme, and the gameplay, but this is not a game for those who want to win more than they lose.

The game is tough! But I quite enjoy it, I love the challenge. Sometimes it feels like no matter how hard you try, luck always seems to make you lose and there’s nothing you can do about it. However, the more you play, the more you understand the mechanics of the game and then it become a fun challenging puzzle to solve. The theme is great and if you have an active imagination you can have a great time playing this, even solo. It’s also very fun with a team and I love coop games. The multiple scenarios is great too so replayability is definitely high! My wife and I like dead of winter and robinson crusoe seemed like the next level up in terms of challenge.

There are many components, rules, and steps to this game and it took a while to read all instructions and set it up to play. The instructions were understandable but probably seem like they could be more straight forward or also better if it could add more components as you play different levels so that you are not faced with so much complexity to start the game. It was great to play during the holidays with time on our hands. I was really interested in playing it - unique for sure. We laughed that on the weather die there is snow as possible extreme weather to deal with on a tropical island. We also learned how important it is to build the shelter/roof so that we would not take too much damage in the night phases.
