Changed my Life

The Roborock S5 has changed my life! We previously had the base model of another (expensive, hence base model) brand of cleaner which went about life in a very random sort of way. We worked on the basis that an average clean was better than no clean - then we got the Roborock S5 - average cleans are gone! This little legend does a great clean of every room we send it to. It's fantastic on the hard flooring, and amazing on carpet. It gets into corners and around objects really well. There used to be dust cling to the bottom of chair legs that required manual intervention - this little beauty just flicks that right up and sucks it up.We couldn't be happier with this purchase, and have been recommending it to all our friends!

Excellent robot hoover

I am very pleased with this robot hoover, it is working great. The navigation and mapping features work well even though we have a lot of clutter around, at places narrowing the space to navigate to only 50-60 cm. I drove the robot (in remote control mode) around once in all rooms to have the map populated in app on my phone. After that I've set up the invisible walls to lock out certain areas, setup the order of rooms and it was all done. Started the robot, watched it go around (the first 3 times) to see it is coping well overall. Thanks to the underside brush and strong suction it cleans even the carpet at our entrance door, which was always a problem (even when we manually hoover it with a proper mains powered hoover). Despite the suction power it is not as loud as one might expect it (I run it on 'Turbo'). I find cleaning the dust bin a bit tedious, the dust and fluff tends to stick into the filter and it takes a fair bit of time to properly get cleaned out with the included brush (then again it may be not necessary to clean it fully as I do all the time). This is also a testament of the suction power in my opinion. The only problems so far I've come across were: It is not able to start where I've placed the dock. This is not an issue with the product, just a bad placement, something I can't address at my place due to all the furniture and clutter. No big deal, as I empty/clean the dust bin just before running the robot anyways. All I need to do is: grab the robot from it's dock, put it in the middle of the room (empty the dust bin) and short press the power button. After that it does it's job perfectly. It got stuck once on the foot of my wife's chair. The chair has a long almost S shaped wood starting as the feet curving up as armrest and ending as the back support. One day the robot managed to 'climb' onto this wooden foot piece and got stuck as the wood is thick enough to reach the robot's bottom, while the wheels are not longer reaching the ground properly. I've added an invisible wall to where the feet of the chair are and so far there where no further problems (we do not move the chair around obviously). Overall I am very pleased with this robot hoover, it cleans great, not very loud, takes a lot less time to clean, than my previous robotic hoover. Before this I only had a Haier T321, which is not the same price bracket and thus not a fair comparison basis, however it is my only prior experience with robotic hoovers. Any comparative statements above would have been against the T321.

Excellent robot vac
16 January 2022

We originally purchased a competitor with a fishy name and it bounced off every wall and surface, cleaning the floors of our home in a very random pattern. It would bump so hard into the baseboards, we had to return it because it was damaging them. We then opted for the Roborock S5 and love it! It cleans so well and is smart - with radar - does not hit the walls and maps out rooms. It goes in a very efficient manner and has a great battery life. The mop feature is cool too - and helps keep the floors clean, but does not replace a traditional mop and bucket. It helps in between mopping with a traditional mop and bucket. I would definitely recommend this robot vac if you want a break from having to vacuum the "old school" way every day. Set a schedule, and let this robot do the work for you... and a plus it even gets under beds, sofas, etc. where you may struggle cleaning with a push vac.

Extremely smart, highly intelligent robot

After reviewing many other ppl's detailed review, i've decided to purchase this on an early Black Friday deal. This definitely exceeded my expectation. I own a 3-yr old dumb and bump Ecovac robo vacuum so the contrast is stark. Roborock S5 max has a Lidar, so many more sensors, it can navigate my rooms with obstacles effortlessly. I used to have to pick up things and prepare the rooms for Ecovac, but not anymore. Now I put S5 Max on a schedule, certain days it'll clean living room, kitchen, master BR...etc The mopping feature like many said is weak, and is nothing more than dragging a wet rag across the floor; for me, it's better than nothing, but i don't expect it to really do the "mopping" that some areas need. The app is powerful and makes the robot highly ... MoreAfter reviewing many other ppl's detailed review, i've decided to purchase this on an early Black Friday deal. But once you set it, i think you can just leave it as is.Overall, it's a great purchase and a BF price, it's definitely worth the price. If you've had the 1st gen robot, it's amazing to watch how much in 3 yrs the technology has come. In my household, it takes care about 95% of the vacuum need, i occasionally do spot vacuum that's all, to me, that's worth the price I paid.

Good at vacuuming, horrible at navigating
29 November 2021

Thought Roborock was the best at navigating. Bought this to replace a 7 year old “dumb” Roomba that bounced around like a ping pong ball. Figured the more advanced Roborock with mapping LiDAR would avoid getting stuck and easily find its way around.Despite multiple reviews telling me that this was the best m, and especially good for the mid grade model, they were all wrong. Instead, I found this thing getting stuck over and over again in the same places including getting stuck under entertainment centers, stuck under vanities and bureaus, stuck in my radiators, stuck trying to get over lips to other rooms – – just basically stuck everywhere, all the time. What’s more frustrating is that the mapping feature was sporadic at best. Despite multiple reviews claiming it would be super easy to set up maps and cleaning zones and mark off areas that might be troublesome – – I found it to be the opposite. The maps never seem to stick and it often seemed confused about what room it was in. We have a multi level house so of course I can’t map the entire floor at once. Just a terrible experience overall. I don’t know if I am willing to go to a higher level model given the software problems as well.

Meets expectations, vacuums well, wipes down ok
27 January 2022

We've been running it since late December 2021.I've set up a upper and lower level room plan. I keep it downstairs most of the time as it sees the highest traffic and mess. I have it running on a cleaning schedule and would say, after some playing around, dividing up the open plan space into rooms that are no-go or no-mop was doable. So set up was quite easy.Quality of vacuum job is solid, picks up most items excluding say a quite large or slightly too heavy piece of cardboard. The kind of things a regular full size vacuum could pick up maybe? Quality seems close to full size, though I suspect it's maybe 20%-30%weaker. (It is strong enough that I can see the suction tracks in the carpet where it has been if that's any help.)Does tiles well, does carpet too. (It is strong enough that I can see the suction tracks in the carpet where it has been if that's any help.)Does tiles well, does carpet too. We have low pile texture/twist carpet, not nothing but much deeper carpet and I think it would struggle to meaningfully vacuum.Mop function should probably be better titled 'Wipe down function".I think the strength is that it doesn't replace but does reduce the size of the mop job. Leaves the tough spills behind but clears easy stuff and reduces frequency. Basically if you'd need to use elbow grease and the rough side of a sponge- this won't do it. Obviously from germ kill perspective room temp water and a cloth won't do a lot but for my level of laziness vs awareness of dirt it takes floors from disgusting to tolerably clean. Make of that what you will.Cat hair: We have one long hair cat. On first two vacuums of the upper carpeted area where cat mostly hangs out the dust trap filled up both times. Had to empty and clean wheels etc first two times. Once it reduced the 'base load' of cat fur to like...what you'd get if you are not lazy and vacuum every 4 days or so, then I found it was managing quite well, e.g. not completely full by the end of the clean. You will want to clean the vacuum wheels afterwards if it's going through a carpeted high fur area to ensure the wheels and rotating carpet paddle agitator can spin freely.Overall it does what it says it would, I went in with the understanding this would be a cleaning support tool that would fill in the gaps and leave me more likely to do other cleaning jobs which produces overall a tidier house.

Robert's review of XIAOMI S5 MAXB :: Vacuum robot, Roborock S5 Max, black
6 July 2022

Pros: Maps out your house really well, separating rooms so you can just clean kitchen or dining room etc.Easy to use and setup with app.The vacuuming is better then I can do, however this review is based on just hard floors.Mopping feature works well, only on highest water setting.Great value for money. Would not be without one of these now.Cons: If you have long rugs then it can sometimes get stuck, especially tassels.Requires a bit of day to day maintenance, eg. Emptying the box every vacuum washing out the filter and water tank every other day.The mopping function only works well on highest water setting, quick tip is to prewet the mop as well to prevent streaking. Need to disconnect mop when not mopping otherwise gets stuck on rugs etc.

Cleans pretty thoroughly on our tile floor, where there are a lot of wide grooves. Mop functionality is spot on. The app is really nifty too, after the first run the robot will save the floor plan and allow you to divide the house into rooms, and run the vacuum against just certain rooms. You can also set areas that are off-limits for the robot, or only off-limits when you've got the mop attached. Also, I'm really liking the spot cleaning feature, which lets you put a location on the map, and the robot will go and clean that 1.5m x 1.5m area. One thing I wasn't able to test was the new multi-floor feature since I live in a one-floor apartment unit. But apparently you can place the robot on any floor and it will keep track of each floor's map, up to four at a time.Although the provided instructions ask you to install the Xiaomi Home app for smart integration, I'd strongly recommend using the Roborock app instead, which is newer and not as buggy. If you want to use Google Assistant, as of writing this you NEED to use the Roborock app, because the integration with Mi Home has been broken for months now. I also couldn't get Home Assistant integration to work, Xiaomi might be patching against that through firmware updates. The downsides: although it has a sensitive bump sensor, it tends to run over things like cables and larger pieces of waste that may be lingering on the floor (which get trapped and prevents suction, unbeknownst to the vacuum). But that's what you get with a lidar robot vacuum as opposed to one with a front-facing camera like the S6 MaxV. Also, the app is buggy sometimes when using the map: zooming is really slow and defining boundaries is a painful process. All in all really impressed.

I bought myself a Saugroboter around a year ago and after lots of thought and lots of looking through reviews, I decided to buy a cheaper model- which was relatively good as a starter package! But no mapping and random cleaning. Then I decided to go a little more upmarket and bought the Roborock S5Max and my god, what a difference! She is superb!!! She maps the rooms, she doesnt get stuck- anywhere! She mops superbly. The App is easy to use- once youve got it installed, which took a little while to connect up. Roxy gets 5 stars from me and I havent regretted paying more for the quality I now have. Dont make the mistake I made- trying to save. Buy the Roborock
