You are able to turn on the little light inside, but that's it. If you follow the instructions, there's no way of opening up the house ever again after you've completed it. It made me sad to craft those perfect small books with real turning pages, then paste them into a house so that none could ever really open up them and see the details. A hinged roof or wall would be so much better, so I could go on to customise or rearrange, or let my son play with it (gently, though, because...)- It's delicate. It would make an astonishing little fairy house for a careful kid to play with, but besides being impossible to open, it's also quite fragile. Then again, it's not advertised as a toy, so that's understandable. It's tough enough for show, and none of the parts have broken with common carrying-around or showing-off.Overall, I loved it, and I'm already impatient to buy the next kit (the study or the greenhouse?? I want them both!).

adviceCommon advice: setting up this together (specially the box books no. 2) takes time. Those looking for a fast fix, this not for you.Use a roller to paint the walls and floor for best results. The allocation of furniture parts in the numbered bags made no sense to me and was quite humorous. They could easily have put the divisions of at the least 3 pieces of furniture in one bag. The hectic allocation made the constructing process more confusing than it should have been. There was not sufficient gum for the total project. I used my own wood gum for the furniture and the clear gum for all the books. The red cloth for the chair exhibited the gum and did not turn out well, so I used my own stuff. I finished them on my own paper, which made them tougher and easier to lay on the shelves. The cup cake pages are odd and had no matching covers... I have not done the lighting yet, still pending. However after all that I wrote, the completed product is very attractive and I am very glad with it.

We bought two kits and sat side by side making them during evenings and weekends as a way to relax. It was such a fun time, and the kits are worth the money. A few tips:- Get your own glue and a way to delicately apply the glue (e.g. cocktail sticks).- Get a precise cutting blade, e.g. an x-acto knife.- Get something with a strong, straight edge for precise cutting (plus a surface for cutting). Both of those things will make your experience far better.

Great fun!
21 July 2021

Got this for my birthday, just finished it the other day, and I’m loving it! A few notes: the wire is super thin and fragile, so be very careful stripping the insulation. I messed up enough that I barely had enough wire. When cutting the fabric for the chair, be sure to count the right number of pieces and make sure you lay it out on the fabric before cutting, to be sure you get enough pieces. I messed up the chair badly enough that I had to use my own fabric, but I took advantage of that to add a few personal touches. Most importantly: have fun! You don’t have to do it all at once. If you get frustrated, walk away and come back to it later. Took me about 18 days, anywhere from an hour to several hours each day.

I Had to Improvise Because the Materials Were Sub Par
25 June 2020

I was very disappointed in this kit, The paper book covers were so badly printed I threw them all out and made my own. The two brown bookcases that attach to each other are a terrible fit. Making the upholstered library chair was impossible. The ladder was the worst piece in the kit. Steps were missing so I had to improvise with materials from my basement. Gluing the ladder is very difficult because it's so poorly designed. When I finished the bookstore I realized I had paid over $50 for two pieces of plywood, countless tiny pieces of poorly fitting wooden parts for small furniture, and reams of book covers that aren't legible. I haven't mentioned how inferior the instructions are. I went to Youtube to watch some video instructions for the kit.

Loved the Finished Product
16 March 2022

I really enjoyed this kit. It looks so cute on my bookshelf. Loved being creative in the final assembly. The pieces for items such as the bookcase come in different bags so you must be careful to check and double check each piece. Sometimes it is just the thickness of an piece that separates from the wrong piece. The instructions for most items are adequate but for the lighting, it was very difficult. Stripping the insulation from the thin wire was difficult, but worth it in the end. It looks great. Will buy another soon.

Magical project
11 January 2023

This is such a cute little project. The pieces are well designed so they come together and look like miniature bookshelves and such. Separately, the pieces would be great included in a larger, more comprehensive doll house (to scale). As a complete project, as is, it will take quite some time to complete, and is an example of a very cluttered book shop. Sooo much detail! My 14 yr old son completes one piece of furniture each evening. I think we may need to help out with the books because there are so many of them.

It's to easy. All you have to do is glue parts together. That is not a challenge at all! I've had a room from another brand and you had to take out the parts, make them smooth, partly you had to paint them. This is just glue and partly cutting the paper parts. So I hope other kits are more fun.Oh and the glue, please don't give the clear one anymore. It makes small strands that you have to try and take out. Give us a form of tacky glue. I just bought a cheap version at a store called Action. Just 99 cents a bottle and everything is stuck, no strands and if there is some glue left on the wood, or plastic or whatever, you don't see it once it is dry.So I do like the idea, for me it is a home library, not a study, in a study there should be a big desk with a chair ... MoreIt's to easy. Take your time for optimal success.
6 February 2022

This is my third room kit so I knew what to expect. I started by sorting the pieces as I knew they would be mixed. It's really important to take your time. Get the proper tools. I got a nice little tool kit for Christmas which really helped. Tweezers, clips, pliers, etc. The only problem I really had was with the chair. It went together, but the glue was just more messy than I like. I made chair pillows out of the extra fabric and that made it look better. It was a lot of fun. I can't wait to make another.

I was very disappointed with the kit. The markings on the baggies didn't seem to have anything to do with the parts enclosed. The slot were to large for the tabs so inorder to keep the bookcase with 90 degree angles I would have needed to bulid a jig and use miniature clamps. They said the instructions gave the piece sizes in mm and to be sure to measure to ensure the correct piece but I couldn't find any measurments. Very frustrating
