Rode Deadcat VMP+ - For VideoMic Pro+
The DeadCat VMP+ is a luxurious fur windscreen for the VideoMic Pro+ for sound recordings in windy environments. The DeadCat VMP+ microphone windscreen is designed to reduce wind noise during outdoor recordings. It contains an inner cover made of open-cell foam and an outer layer of acoustically transparent, artificial fur. A rubber base prevents wind noise from reaching the open area of the microphone from the rear. It also ensures a secure fit, especially for the VMP+ microphone model. The DeadCat VMP+ is the only compatible solution for the VideoMic Pro+ (released in September 2017). For other VideoMic Pro models, please consider the DeadCat VMP and the DeadCat VMPR.

The only Deadcat you should use for your Videomic Pro microphone because the other brands seem to be of a lesser quality. You need a dense fur to block the wind and this one by Rode seems to be the thickest.

Just used this in a shoot at a construction site with wind. It was great! Really cut the wind and provided clean audio. Easy to slide on when you need to transition from the normal foam head.

Great price for a great item. When you?re recording on windy places(I?m from Orlando - FL, and here?s always windy), the video comes with a clean voice as you was on a regular place not windy.Highly recommend you to get it if you?re a vlogger

Thank you to B&H for having this item available; I have the newest (as of August 2018) version of the Video Mic Pro (VMPR+), and finding this exact windshield has been quite the chore! Unlike previous versions of the windshield for their respective models, this doesn't just slip over the foam mic cover - it replaces the foam cover entirely. This reduces any chance of the two materials rubbing together and creating added noise or smothering the audio with excess material in the way.
Perfect coverage is recommended instead of the default cover that comes with the microphoneVery high quality noise filterKeeps the microphone from fallingBeautiful hair (the cat was beautiful probably before they took his hair ..)At first the hairs fell out a bit but really not a bit serious at allHigh quality product
I recently upgraded from the Videomic Pro to the Videomic Pro Plus. Naturally, to go along with the new, bigger sized microphone, I wanted an appropriate sized deadcat for it, and saw that there is this new one made by Rode themselves specifically for this model of microphone, so I bought one. It’s perfect. It’s not your typical sock type deadcat that is just placed over the mic itself, but it’s a completely different attachment designed for the VMP+ to replace the foam windscreen that’s on the mic originally. You just slide the foam one off, and this one fits perfectly in its place. Avoid that Auray one which is just a sock! Get this one made by Rode.
If you do any video outside you need this windshield. It's almost impossible to eliminate wind noise from audio. This purchase will save you time and headaches. This is a must have item.
The sponge that comes with the original VMPR+ Mic does a little, in reality however, fitting the properly designed deadcat will make your mic pretty much immune to most windy days, it does this with LONG hair that fly in the wind and absorb the higher pitched sound vibrations. The hairs that form the faux fur are rooted onto the exterior of a rubber tube that in turn absorbs the lower frequencies, in turn the inner part of the rubber tube is dimpled so as to have a snug fit but with minimal contact - effectively a mini-blimp, best of both worlds! All in all a very clever design that has been developed clearly with an eye to reduce the acquisition costs of blimps and and to make these powerful mics as effective as traditional versions in blimps. All in all a very clever design that has been developed clearly with an eye to reduce the acquisition costs of blimps and and to make these powerful mics as effective as traditional versions in blimps. So, BEFORE you gripe (like I did for two years) about the 39 approx price, remember that it is well engineered piece of kit and has been designed to make life easier and cheaper for the end user.
Even with the velcro sealed in the he back, when the wind gets to the back, the mic picks up a horrible wind noise rendering the recording useless. There are ways to better seal the gaps, but this takes time and effort, and some needle work, not what is expected from this company. I've gone back to the Sennheiser MKE 400. Not only does it capture wind noise as it sounds, but has a wind filter to remove the wind all together.
Works as advertised. Outside cuts wind and other noise to a minimum. Using this in tandem with the Video Mic Pro control system has improved my outdoor recordings very much. Be sure to practice adjusting the mic controls on the fly. You will like the results.
