This is, at it's heart, a windows device, so prepare to spend some time managing it. But it plays my steam library well, and I find myself playing more games now with this than watching people on YouTube playing games.

The ROG ally is a great handheld but it still needs a lot of updates before it's perfect, performance isn't were it should be given its rDNA3 8Tf GPU.Pros:>Great screen, 1080p 120HZ ips>Light>Feels great in the hand>Software allows decent configurations for power/performance>Fans are very quiet have allow curve adjustmentsCons:>Battery life (to be expected given the power it has under the hood)>Performance isn't as good as it could be>Many updates are needed to get the ally where it should beOverall it's a good handheld and look forward to it getting better over time.

I ordered it online today and picked it up. I really wanted it for its amazing performance. I can have a great weekend.
For those who are not familiar tinkering around a pc. Dont buy this product as this is not a console.Dont expect a console experience as its not.But for pc gamers, this is a great handheld device. I am enjoying native games and emulation on this bad boy.
I would recommend when purchasing to make sure one is comfortable with windows. It is far from a simple click-and-go setup such as consoles. I spent one hour-ish updating all the Windows updates, then got the most up-to-date bios for the ally. Luckily if you sign into the Asus app, then it makes the process easier. But so far the performance is excellent. And quite amazing. I play World of Warships, and the rog ally does 1440p medium-high setting above 60fps on an external monitor. Pretty impressive. But be willing to have to tinker a lot with settings and the system. Otherwise I would highly recommend
Fantastic machine, but windows really really let's it down in a big way. Battery life is OK if you run at 720 instead of 1080.If steamOS was on this then this would be the perfect machine. Games play beautifully on it once you install all of your launchers. I would consider this a good machine to play your AAA games on the go with a power bank, and use a steamdeck for your indie games and for situations that require a longer battery life.
Its the best handheld you can currently get...but... it has the usual Windows issues, they same you would expect on a PC/Laptop. There is currently an issue with SD Cards overheating and frying the SD card reader, and on my unit (and many others) the is a little wobble as they thumbtack caps don't fit the shaft of the joystick properly (easily fixed with a little teflon tape). Still, the pros outweigh the cons and I will be keeping this after owning 2 x Steam Decks... the Ally is worth buying for the superior screen alone (the screen is the real let down of the Steam Deck(
This is honestly the future, the power and specs packed into a handheld device is amazing.I would only recommend the product if you have knowlege on how to operate a windows device, this is NOT a console experiance.Once windows is debloated and tuned, power useage is down and HDD space is up.Drivers and optimisations are still in their infancy so over time this device will continue to improve. We do pay a bit more than people in like the States for the device, but all in all I think its awesome, it really compliments a gaming PC as using Moonshine with a Nvida GPU and Wifi 5/6 is just awesome. I can get around 4-5 hours battery life. The Emulation performance is super strong and being able to play AAA games blows my mind.
Can't believe how dope and powerful this thing is... As long as you can wrap your head around windows which I prefer since your not limited to anything.. you can use every game launcher available. It's definitely a windows PC so there will be updating and tinkering which I actually enjoy.Have already cracked her open and replaced the SSD with a 2tb card, ASUS has a built in ASUS cloud recovery that flashes everything back to factory on the new SSD which was a godsend.Only downside to me is pretty poor battery life (which I don't really care about as I prefer it plugged in to push it to it's full potential anyway)Absolutely no regrets!
