The menu system is easy to use, you can change your settings while your game is running, the screen is beautiful and the colors really pop. The speakers are great, i was very surprised how loud the Ally goes up too. I will also add the battery life is normal for a product like this, Asus offers a great docking system if your interested in playing on a bigger screen. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. I'm not a professional reviewer so I can only explain stuff as a gamer. Basically if your a gamer who wants to play your games on the best system possible, I'd definitely recommend the Ally Extream. The system feels like something a gamer actually designed, I have completely retired my Steamdeck and just use my Ally.

It would have been a better experience if we connect a mouse and keyboard externally.If I had to nitpick then I would like ASUS to consolidate their Armory Suit And MYAsus app inside a single app instead of multiple for seamless experience. With that being said once I completed my setup and installed front end softwares like emulation station or playnite this handheld just completely below me away.This thing has a lot of potential.What I like so far:Screen - Despite being a LCD screen I find it to be a very well quality and calibrated display,there is very less or minimum back-light bleeding and with good contrast ,blacks look proper black. Yes if you compare with a AMOLED/OLED mobile display side by side you will notice the different but I have no complain with the display.Audio - The speakers are very good, I was quite surprised by the sound clarity and quality. They sound spacious and gives a very good listening experience.Controls - The controls are decent,all the buttons feel like usual XBOX controller except the ABXY face button they have a bit of a squishy type feel.I did not find much use for the back buttons in games but they are useful for custom tasks like bring up keyboard/set it to quick close an app etc. Overall controls are decent.Usability - I can comfortably use it for a couple of hours while laying down. As for actual gameplay, if you play games from 2020 or before, it mostly gives locked 60 FPS(with few exception) with a medium/high setting at 900p. Latest games depending on load can be run with low settings at 720p using some frame gen mod with locked 40-50 fps. With VRR and Low framerate compensation along with the small screen I do not feel much of any stutter or lack of visuals quality in low settings. It also works best with emulated and streaming game services.It comes with free 3 months xbox ultimate and the experience is very good.Official availability - I really appreciate ASUS that they launched their product within a few months post international release.Rest of the competition never considers much of Indian market.Updates - I see a lot of updates being lauched for this product and I appreciate it very much,I hope we get atleast 2 more year of OS support for this at the very least.What I do not like:Battery - It is in the lower side,mostly within 2 hours it dies. However if you play some low demanding games which can be sustained in 7-9 watt power profile with screen brightness set to less than 40% it does last close to 3 hours. The supplied charger take about 2 hours to charge full or 1 hour if you charge till 80%.Storage - They come with 512 GB and you get close to 450 GB usable space. For the price I would have preferred at least 1 TB. Also ASUS should have went with a full size 2280 instead of expensive 2230 SSD,there is clearly space for it and we would have been able to update the storage down the line without paying such high price for 2230 variants.No Carry case - For the price ASUS should have provided a carry case along with some pre-applied screen protector instead they charge 1.9K for their official carry case.Single USB C Port - Bad design choice,they should have provided at least 2.XGM Port - This propriety port is basically useless for this handheld. Asus does not sell any external adapter case which we can use to connect any external pcie device like desktop GPU. They do sell some XG mobile GPU but they are far too expensive and no one would pair them with this handheld which make this port useless for me. They should have went with a usb gen 4 port instead or give us some adaptor/XGM case to use our old GPUs.Modularity - I would have preferred if these came with a detachable controller then we could transform this completely into a windows tablet and have the best of both worlds. I hope they add this in their next iteration.What I would love to see in future iterations:1)OLED screen.2)Detachable controller so that we can use the device as a windows tablet.3)Builtin webcam for use in tablet mode.4)Improved vibration/audio based haptics like Sony dualsense.5)Full size 2280 nvme drive.6)Hall-effect sensors for trigger & analog sticks.7)More USB C ports.With all this being said this is gradually growing on me and I find myself playing a lot of my backlog games while lying down. I think there is a big future for handhelds and with a few generation of improvements both OS interface(I think Microsoft is working on a dedicated windows interface for handhelds) & hardware improvements these will become the all in one device.

While the power/RGB control feels acceptable if the lightbar were stable, the brightness/color temperature wheel feels cheap, is noisy, and diminishes the overall experience. Additionally, while the wheel slides left and right it can not slide enough to be centered in its cut out, which does not seem intentional and further impacts the perceived quality.Software Issues:Control Software: Asus provides software to control the lightbar, potentially eliminating the need for hardware controls. However, depending on your setup, you may need to use two different pieces of software simultaneously: Armory Crate and DisplayWidget Center. This can be cumbersome.DisplayWidget Center: Although I do not have an Asus monitor, I must use DisplayWidget Center to control functions such as on/off, brightness, temperature, specific RGB controls, and modes. This software does not sync with the hardware controls, leading to abrupt changes when switching between software and hardware adjustments. For example, if you have a warmer color temperature and low brightness set in the software but adjust the brightness manually, the settings will revert to the last hardware configuration, which can be jarring.Armory Crate: This software overrides both hardware and software RGB controls, meaning you cannot use the hardware buttons to control the RGB if Armory Crate has Aura Sync set to on for the Lightbar. You cannot even turn the RGB on/off via hardware controls, with Aura Sync on, without resetting the lightbar. Armory Crate only enables Aura Sync and does not allow adjustments to other settings. Therefore, if you want to use Aura Sync, you must rely on the Armory Crate for RGB control and cannot use hardware controls for other functions like on/off. Additionally, while any hardware or software changes between DisplayWidget Center and the hardware controls will override each other, Armory Crate’s Aura Sync will always override both hardware and DisplayWidget Center controls when it’s enabled.Maybe this setup is acceptable for some users, but for me, it is quite inconvenient. I would prefer a single piece of software to control everything, with seamless integration between software and hardware. Adjusting brightness should not alter the color temperature just because it was different the last time I used that interface. Running two different pieces of software to get the most out of one product is not ideal.As I mentioned initially, I hoped this product would perform at least 80% as well as my old lightbar in terms of light output, brightness, cutoff, and smoothness. I wouldn’t even rate it at 65%.Color Temperature Range: The total range is comparable to the Halo, with extremes beyond what I would typically use.Light Smoothness: The light smoothness is about 50% of my old light bar. The light is not as smooth, especially at settings other than the most extreme ends of the color temperature spectrum. It is evident that the light is produced by LEDs of different colors rather than appearing as a single, uniform color. There are visible bands of different colors.Brightness: It is difficult to measure brightness accurately without proper equipment. It seems similar to my old light bar but different in distribution. It’s akin to comparing two flashlights with similar brightness but different beam patterns—one being a tight, concentrated beam and the other more diffuse and spread out. The Asus Lightbar may be close in brightness but differs in its light distribution. The light seemed uneven, creating more shadows and reducing the “effective” brightness. It felt like the Asus lightbar needed to be at 100% to achieve the same effectiveness that my old lightbar can at 50%, even if their total light output at 100% is similar.RGB Backlighting: I was particularly disappointed with the RGB backlighting. The controls in DisplayWidget Center are extremely limited compared to most RGB software. I expected the RGB to be 40-60% as bright as the rear (white variable color temp only) light bar, but it is not even 10%. The RGB brightness is abysmal, and you basically need to look directly at the lights to see them. The colors are barely visible in reflection, even off a white wall, unless the room is extremely dark. Additionally, the color changes were not smooth, and an unrelated color was introduced between cycles, matching poorly with my Aura Sync Effect.I expected this Asus Lightbar to be inferior to my old one, but I was willing to make some sacrifices for Aura Sync RGB. Unfortunately, the Asus Lightbar did not meet my expectations in terms of fit, build quality, software integration, or light output. I really wanted to like this Lightbar, but I don’t. It simply did not offset the sacrifices I was willing to make.

Not so much the duration of a full charge. But the duration of its life. But there has been a update to the software that allows for “smart care” of the battery so that has helped my mind a lotThe price…I started with the steam deck I bought from a friend bare bones for around 300 dollar's US …and slowly over around four months was able to get a portable monitor a productive case and screen protector,dock,cooling fans, extra portable battery bank, 65w and above charging docks or power cables. So after purchasing the ROG I was relived to notice everything worked with it aside from the screen protecter and protective case I also bought another dock to help keep it cool during longer game sessions but not going to lie the thought does cross my mind “why didn’t I just buy a gaming laptop”- in a nutshell- the ROG is better suited for someone who is new to PC gaming vs a laptop that after your initial purchase (witch would most likely be over 1000$ US) of a mid level gaming laptop I don’t feel like you would have the same level of attention and support for a laptop pc as u do with the ROG.So if your like me and need to be able to set up a mobile gaming hub in places you spend most of your life at, to be able to set up and tear down in min and still have your AAA games with you to help satisfy that gamer feeling inside that always says “ man I have no time to game anymore” then I think this is well worth the time/money/effort. Giving the right amount of patience I think this product can satisfy the needs of all gamers weather you travel or don’t ..have a big family or a small…single/married…busy/relaxed…hardcore/retro..you got something here.
The ROG Ally is a powerful little device, it can run most AAA titles and medium to high settings. The major gripes with the device are, battery life and the possibility of an SD card burnt out, due to heat. If you can overlook these flaws, some of them being design flaws, it's an amazing little device that really packs a punch. The battery life can be helped by messing around in Windows and Armory Crate setting's, however you will most likely need a battery pack to continuously play for more than an hour and 20ish minutes. However if you just want to sit and play then the option of plugging it in, doesn't seem as bad. I really wish they would make the eGPUs in more of a variety, because spending $1,500 to $2,000 on a laptop Nvidia GPU is a bit ridiculous. The lack of AMD options in that department is a bit embarrassing, considering the device when in handheld mode is entirely AMD driven. However as I mentioned before the device blows the Steam Deck out of the water, especially since it runs a full copy of Windows. If you pair this device with Gamepass Ultimate, and your other accounts (Steam, GOG, ect) you basically end up with an endless library of game's to play. The parts inside the device are easily replaceable, so if you don't like the sticks or face buttons there are third party options to give the device a face lift. However if you have big hands, I definitely suggest you relearn how to hold the device, or invest in a grip case that adds extra girth.

I originally bought myself a steam deck (until I got the Ally X, my only pc games were from Steam so the broader game range didn’t matter as much to me) but shortly after I started really getting the itch to try this out, too. It was hard to afford and pay for (I am disabled and on limited income) but it was so worth the cost for me, and my mom notices huge strides in my mental health since I’m able to better occupy myself with these handhelds. I did the Xbox Game Pass trial, which I plan to continue, which really opens up the game choices I have to play, while also buying more since I no longer have to isolate myself in a small room to play on my desktop. Never had that issue with other games though. I love this thing so much. I’m bad at reviews and I apologise for that, but if you can get it, I ♾️/10 recommend this device. It’s the perfect all in one!
