I’m guessing most of us have had to discard quite a few coffee grinders over the years for one reason or another, I know I surely have. The moment I saw the ROK manual grinder I intrigued by its minimalistic design and its potentially functionality, so bravely hit the buy button. The bottom line is a big happy yes from me for this well made, well designed and highly functional coffee grinder, it’s a great unit and comes with a surprising 10 year warranty.

I do like this as far as hand grinders go and I find it more ergonomic than most others. There are however there are a few aspects which I feel could be improved.- Grind adjustment - There are no markings on the dial and the burs often get stuck a little when going to a courser grind size making fine adjustments more difficult. I find it takes a lot of trial and error to adjust the grinder even for small changes. For larger changes such as going from an espresso to pour over I have given up and just use a different grinder- Pop corning of beans - Unless I grind very slowly this is always a messy grinder. It is nice seeing the beans fall down into the grinder but I have made a hopper cover because I an sick of cleaning up the mess

I bought this on a whim as a companion to my ROK espresso maker and have been extremely surprised at the quality of the grind. My first attempt was to duplicate the French press grind that comes out of my Rancillo. 1st try gave me an extremely consistent grind with tons of static. The coffee actually tasted better using this grinder than when I grind with the Rocky. No problems with the grind setting changing while grinding but I wanted to get rid of the static, if possible. Then I read a review of the grinder that suggested dipping your finger in water and swirling it in the coffee beans before grinding, tried it and it actually works. No static when you just wet the beans ever so slightly. I now use this grinder every morning instead of my Rocky. I may actually buy another ROK grinder and set it to espresso, use it for lattes and the first ROK grinder for French press. I love this grinder that much because I can taste a difference in my morning coffee. This little sucker is awesome.

Great Mate For My Rancilio Silvia V6

First grinder bought to pair with first machine (Rancilio Silvia). Chose the ROK as it looks classy on the countertop,Build quality is solid, yet light. For portability I've chosen not to adhere it to bench - the aluminium construction makes it easy to move yet sturdy enough to stay put (with one hand firmly grasping the top) when grinding.Grinds are consistent and from a beginner enthusiast point-of-view, I'm happy with the results for espresso. As previous reviews mentioned, static does build when grinding, but just poke the beans in the hopper with a damp fork and you're good to go. There is popcorning near the end of the grind, however, a company called Top End do make a hopper lid for the ROK if you're so inclined.Honestly though, the slight popcorning isn't ... MoreFirst grinder bought to pair with first machine (Rancilio Silvia). If you're into the whole Zen/hobby experience of espresso then the ROK Grinder doesn't disappoint.ROK themselves haven't released a lot of information on the grinder on YouTube or social media, however James Hoffman and Whole Latte Love have done videos.Pros: Excellent build quality, darn quick for a manual, won't wake the house up, consistent, able to grind for espresso within a reasonable price range.Cons: It'd be great if ROK could incorporate a bench clamp in future versions.Final thoughts: Real happy with this guy - it's a 'for life' purchase. And unless it's an entirely different grinder for other purposes (e.g. Niche Zero) it'll hold upgrade-itis at bay for a few years.

Great investment
13 July 2023

Fantastic purchase. The quality of the machine is great. It grinds really well and very smoothly. The instructions with it are minimal so I recommend watching a YouTube video before configuring, as we ended up tightening it too much which made it impossible to operate, so don't make our mistake. We could eventually untighten it with rubber gloves.

First of all, the delivery by the AB is arranged impeccably. Second of all, very responsive to answer my questions. Third of all, about the product. Solid. Stylish. One really has to understand how it is cobbled together (disassemble it) to learn how to operate it. Once understood, it is phenomenal. It will significantly save novice users time to find all answers if the packaging included INSTRUCTIONS. In my case, I over-tighten the adjustment wheel right off the package. As you grind the beans they may fly out out of the feeding chamber. I know it is a tough question how to design a lid for it. So, it is solid and stylish 4 stars from me.

ROK Coffee Bean Grinder

I have used the machine for about two days now and am totally delighted with its performance. It looks beautiful sitting next to my ECM espresso machine and it is so much fun to use. It is solid and does a great job of grinding for espresso. I am currently fine tuning the fineness of the grind for maximum flow and taste.I love how easy it is to use and the solid, quiet sound of the sharp steel conical burrs is like fine music to the ears - almost like sitting next to a quietly contented, purring kitten or next to a bubbly stream in a quiet forest glade emitting its relaxing rhythms and melodies as the crystal mountain waters flow seaward.I love the idea of hand grinding rather than just pushing a button on an electric machine. This machine's ingenious design with the long vertical handle is world's ahead of another machine that I have been using with a horizontal turn of a shorter handle. The sticky base is superb and the machine is as solid as a rock (ROK) when grinding. I am hoping the stickiness will last forever, and not give out on me in the future. It is almost anathema to refer to this as a machine though. I prefer to look upon it as "a sculpted work of art" sitting sublimely in my little espresso grotto. Even the silver coloured box it came in was a delight to the eyes and the double, solid packing made the dark, dangerous, arduous journey to our country of Canada a journey of safety with its precious contents remaining unscathed, unlike the journey of the Fellowship of the Ring to Mordor. This whole process makes the adventure of coffee crafting worth every minute of it. (And that is about all the time the grinding takes for one dose of espresso - neatly measured in the beautifully designed cup with the subtle markings sculpted into its design. At first the static of our dry Canadian winter air caused a lot of static cling, but the easy hack of a few drops of water in with the beans in the hopper solved the problem completely. I love this new addition to my home "barista" experience. The only con I can think of at the present is that I had to pay the exchange between Canadian and American dollar and a hefty duty of about $27C to get it into my eager hands. But, Whole Latte Love had discounted the machine's price quite a bit, so overall, I was happy with the purchase. It took a little longer to get here than I was anticipating, but that was not really an issue for me.BTW, I really love the video reviews that this company provides on YouTube and their website.

Solid, beautiful, and performant

I purchased the ROK Coffee Grinder to go along with my ROK Espresso maker, and I am very pleased with the pairing. The grinder itself is a little larger than I anticipated when ordering it, but in retrospect I don't think it could provide the same experience if it were much smaller, and I'm quite happy. The solid metal construction is really a thing of beauty on my countertop, even when it's not in action. The grinder's output is consistent across the levels of coarseness, and I've made great espresso, pour-over and french press with surprisingly little fuss. It took a little getting used to the adjustment ring in its default configuration (stepless) and that was compounded by the fact that the ring rotates when the handle does, so I made a practice to rotating it to certain position before making adjustments. ROK also facilitated a stepped grind selection with a pair of removable washers. I have changed to the stepped selection as I feel that the stepless method allows for a slight drift of coarseness over the process of grinding. The base of the ROK Coffee Grinder has a wonderfully tacky substance requiring only minimal downforce to hold the grinder in place during operation. The unbranded rear-edge of the base is about an inch and a half deeper than the front, something I surmise was done to add stability while rotating the long handle.I did experience a large amount of static build-up the first couple of times I used the machine and it made both the process of getting the grounds and clean-up maddeningly difficult. I located a YouTube video from ROKEspressoMaker titled "dealing with static" and while I was dubious about the claim, adding a drop or three of water to the beans in the hopper actually substantially changed the experience for the better. The included grounds cup is very nicely styled and useful, but I do wish it had a slightly narrower curvature to match the ROK portafiler's profile (because it's quite a bit larger, I have often spilled more of my grounds than I'd like while loading). When making more coarsely ground coffee, it works wonderfully. The ROK Coffee Grinder is a great addition to my kitchen that is pleasingly functional, and undeniably attractive.

I loved the grinder, i don't think i could've choose a better one for the price. Also i like the way you can feel the feedback of the beans and once you perfectly dial your espresso, you know the grind size it's staying there. On the other hand, is really tricky to mix different methods, and is impossible to change from one to the other without some tuning shots in between. But i love that it grinds so fine and consistent that I'm thinking in buying a second one. The bad part, if you can call it a bad, is that if you're not an enthusiast you might have troubles. This is for the ones that are willing and even prefer to invest time in getting the best shot they can. For the gaggia classic pro (no mods aka 15 bars) turn the setting all the way to fine and for medium roasts i found that 6 clicks are pretty close to the sweet spot whit different beans; when you want to dial a coffe fast is a good parameter, then you can remove the washers and take the travel of the 6 clicks as a reference for the dialing. Also, i won't recommend this to someone fiscally weak, but this comes with all manual grinders so all in all, if you are looking for a good manual grinder you can't go wrong.

The grinder works great for me. This checks all of the important boxes I care about. Nice and consistent fluffy grinds, low residue retention, easy to use, conical burrs, the burrs and grounds stay cool. This has made my morning cappuccino taste fantastic. I’m lucky to have a superb roaster shop about a half mile from my house. So I wanted to try grinding my own, but I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on this experiment.I’ve read a lot of complaints about static electricity buildup making the grounds fly around. I haven’t had that problem, but I do live at sea level. For reference, I’m posting in January, and my new weather sensor shows it’s about 68F in the house, with 30% rel. humidity. The little aluminum-looking plastic cup that comes with the Rok sits above the height of that black plastic adjustment dial. That’s higher than in most photos, and higher than it is on the drawing on the box, so maybe it was redesigned to solve the static problem. You do need to tip the cup to place it under the grinder. The little gauge dial thing, well, that rotates with the inner burr. Thankfully, the gearing is 1-1 so if you check where it is when the handle is, say, always at the bottom of the turn, then you can kinda sorta use its numbers meaningfully. My only real gripe is that now I want a better espresso maker! I’m liking the super fine grind yielding a syrup-like espresso with decent crema, but I think my machine is heating the water too high as the pump slowly struggles to shove the water through. To comment on the delivery of this Rok grinder, this was my first order with Whole Latte Love, and it was easy to place the order and the grinder arrived pronto. Thanks, Rok and Whole Latte Love!
