A head to head competitor with the Canon Cine RF that wins!

If you currently shoot the Canon or Nikon prime lenses, you are in for an upgrade at 1/4 the price. This lens is extremely sharp edge to edge, virtually no halos. The boca is more desirable than any other lens we have seen for under $25K. If you didn't know it you would use the lens then watch the video and think you were filming on a lens costing thousands more. At T1.5 it is completely sharp and amazing. Very solid. Very well built. It works great for stills as well, sharper, better that our Canon RF primes 100% of the time. I love Canon Products but this stomps them in the Cine lens department and for video, the USM lenses are lack luster at best. Give it a shot, you will thank me and B&H.

Context has to be taken with these lenses.

Editors note, they do have an extremely narrow throw, and the initial run had the focal gears at random distances up and down the lens. They however have since rectified this and the gears are all at exact distances from the base of the lens.In Closing; do it, just buy the Rokinons, you're wallet will thank you.

I love my Rokinon lenses and buying them from B&H meant I didn't have to worry about shipping issues, or quality upon arrival. For the lenses, the quality is cinema level, the bokeh is beautiful, and the focus is sharp and crisp. I would definetely go with these to get film level cinematic shots for a decent price. I got these to go with my Canon T7i, which they work perfect with, and I'm gonna continue using them when I upgrade my body to a Blackmagic 6k camera.

Great starter cine lens
29 September 2022

I've been shooting Rokinon for 6 years now. I learned film and photography on them, my first lens being the cine 35mm. When I saw an upgraded model for a similar price, I was eager to pick one up. Build quality is MUCH better on these DSX's. The metal housing is much more durable and confident that the old plastic model. The focus and aperture rings are smooth and that extra blade gives some even prettier bokeh. I haven't put enough time into yet but I'm waiting to see how sharp it is. A common problem with the Rokinon cines is that though they are fast, they are very soft. I'm hoping this newer line fixed that problem.

Great, Wonderful ROI
3 March 2023

Every now and then I get impressed with a bit of gear. I am impressed with this mattebox.I shoot in the wind, rain, snow. I lug gear on my back, on a pack animal and in my hand. Swamp, desert, rain forest, glacier, and studio. This matte box scores home runs in weight, ruggedness, compactness, versatility, and it actually blocks the un-wanted light.Filter change and access is reliable and quick. Today the snowflakes (water type) were working hard to attach themselves to the lens, the French flags made it difficult for them.If you need a tax deduction, buy several. If you want a versatile and effective matte box where ROI rules this is the one.

It pays to have Nikon F Mount!
18 August 2020

Disclosure: I’ve only just got these lenses so I haven’t put them to the test. Yet.I am a Nikon still shooter with a lot of digital film background. So when I got the Black Magic Pocket 4k I bought the Metabones XL .64 booster so I can use my still lenses. Works great BUT focus throw is so short on my Nikon still lenses making it super hard to nail critical focus. So after much research I bought the 4 lens cine kit and because it’s Nikon f mount, they were on sale! In fact the next day after ordering the kit there was the 16mm T2.2 for sale at $299! It pays to have Nikon f mount at least for now.I have had one day shooting with them and am surprised of quality build of the lenses. They feel solid. The aperture and focus rings are smooth. The fact that they are Korean and not Chinese made me feel good about the purchase considering the world situation at the moment.Being primes they are straight forward, plenty fast and mounts well. However they don’t click in like my Nikon lenses meaning you don’t hear them click in even though they are. I have tiffin variable ND filter but on the 16 & 24 you can see it in view so have ordered a step up ring 77 to 82mm so hopefully that will solve it. The images look great. Sharp with some nice character. And the fact that the focus throw is nice and long, you can really nail the focus. Plus I can throw them on my D850 and even my z50 giving me 3 cameras with cine lenses!I have associates who shoot Canon and use these lenses and love them so that’s why I pulled the trigger. I mean the price is amazing and the level of my work justifies this purchase. B & H shipping was fast and safe. I live in Hawaii.I am writing a short film and will use these for sure. I’ll also shoot a music video (I’ve done a bunch of em in the past with other setups) will a lot of shallow dof. Can’t wait!

Most Affordable Cinema Lenses
7 December 2021

These lenses are built sturdy, even though they are made from hard plastic. They feature T-stops instead of F-stops, which are useful for cinema. The aperture is de-clicked. There are two focus markings on each lens. The lenses provide smooth action, sharp images and nice bokeh for video. They lack auto focus, but I set everything manually, so it doesn't matter. These lenses turn my Canon 5D Mark iii into a cinema camera. For the price of $300/lens this is a real bargain.

Not suppose to be compared to higher end cinema prime lenses
15 October 2022

Great options for beginners or people starting over and are on a budget. This prime 50 can really be used to achieve great looking images. Too often, people attempt to compare the Rokinon line to higher end cine glass. That should not be, or at least, higher end productions do not want to compromise on breathing, bokeh, coating, minimum focus distance etc. Use these lenses and move on if you decide to, but these lenses show great what's in front of them. Put something great in front of them and nearly anyone who knows what they're doing can make the image look great. These lenses from the Rokinon line were marketed to entry level filmmakers so essentially they're not suppose to be compared to higher end cinema prime lenses.

Pleasantly surprised
2 January 2023

I have used large format lenses (Schneider, Nikkor, Rodenstock) for 35 years on my large format cameras. For my digital SLR Canon I used Canon L series lenses. For these latter, the aperture would only shut down once the shutter release was depressed, never showing the actual depth of field. But these Rokinon Cine lenses work just like large format lenses on the SLR which is fantastic. I am loving the all-manual focus and aperture ring, plus the glass is very high quality.

Stopped working out of the blue but has potential
14 March 2022

I got this with the kit and hardly ever used the 24mm, if at all. And I mean that... so took it out of my case today and could barely adjust focus as the ring was very stiff and wasn't able to focus properly at distance. The kit overall is solid and I think this lens has potential but each lens I own from rokinon has its own little tick. I'm in shock something like this could happen to a lens that has rarely been touch. Unacceptable. Again, Rokinon has done me pretty well but be aware. I'm not sure if I want to buy from rokinon again and I'm frustrated. Scared something like this will happen again.
