I am sure there are reasons, but excellence is measured in performance, not "good enough."

Have always been a Roku fan for the simplicity of design, the popularity of the ecosystem (by most measure still the most popular) and this little hub being a speedy little gateway to it all. Important to me was the ethernet jack since whenever possible, I like to hardwire versus deal with wireless since it's bulletproof -- but there's great wifi support should you either not be wired for it. Also, it's got Toslink for fiber optic surround support for older receivers, but is still fully 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision compliant and all the bells and whistles.Honestly, can't wait to see what the next brings. Maybe gigabit ethernet - even though it's not really necessary. Likely Wifi 6 (or 7). Maybe WPA3. And definitely the latest chipset for speed and richness of UI. This product was great for the first few months. Now the remote mic is not working, the video shows up in a tiny box on the left screen of the tv, and youtube videos will randomly go pink or turn off. I have been on the phone and chat for days and am told to reset/update and update the device. I asked for a warranty replacement because it's LESS than a year old they told me they can't because the item was purchased at Target. Well, Target has informed me that a lie -- warranty claims go through Roku. It's a small touch that makes a big difference. The lost remote finder is a lifesaver, instantly solving the age-old problem of remote disappearing acts.In a world filled with streaming options, the Roku Ultra stands head and shoulders above the rest. With its top-notch performance, user-friendly interface, and thoughtful features, it's an investment that has redefined how I enjoy content.
I’ve used Roku since the XS, and have used 2, 3 and the first Express. So, I’m not a novice or newbie to using a Roku. Did not like the Express at all. Now the Ultra 2020. I thought the Express was finicky with the remote and a bit slow. The Ultra is, for lack of a better term, weird. Setup was straightforward, wireless connection fine. Added my channels easily. Now the weird. First, when I turn the tv on, and Roku is selected, I’m faced with a black screen until I tap the Home button a few times. On occasion while watching something, the screen will go black for 15 to 30 seconds, then picture and sound comes back. Along with some free channels - not a huge amount - I have Prime. The Ultra will do this thing where the picture is very small in the upper left corner. I have to exit out, go to settings and choose 720 instead of the default 1080. Except when 1080 decides to work. 720 on a 43” tv isn’t exactly great, quality of video is definitely diminished. Also have Hulu. That works with 1080, but it’s slow to load, in fact all channels are slow to load. Slower than the Express. I wish the newer, improved Roku worked as well as my Roku 3. I saved up for the Ultra being on a fixed income. I’m not convinced the Roku special promo price of $70:was a good deal.
I BOUGHT THIS ROKU A WHILE BACK, PRETTY MUCH ABOUT THE TIME IT CAME OUT, MAYBE A MONTH OR MONTH IN A HALF AFTER, AT ANY RATE THIS ROKU IS THE REAL DEAL PEOPLE !!! THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT WAS ON SALE, THE 2nd ONE I PAID FULL PRICE FOR, IT WAS WORTH IT !!!! I HAVE THE FIRE STICK MAX ALSO, BUT I BELIEVE THE ULTRA IS FASTER !!! I LOVE THE WAY THE HOME PAGE IS SET UP ON THE ROKU STREAMING DEVICES A LOT BETTER ALSO. HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY BUFFERING ISSUES OR DROPPED PROGRAMS, WHICH IS A HUGE SELLING POINT FOR ME !!!! IN MY OPINION, IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A GREAT STREAMING DEVICE, WITH A DECENT PRICE TAG ON IT, AND A FAS ONE TO BOOT, I’D GO WITH THE 2022 ROKU ULTRA, THE UPGRADES THAT THEY HAVE MADE ARE PRETTY SPECTACULAR FOR THE MONEY !!!! BOTTOM LINE, IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A STREAMING DEVICE, I’D CHECK OUT THE ROKU LINE OF DEVICES !!! I WOULD HAVE RATED IT 10 STARS IF IT HAD BEEN APPLICABLE !!!
Roku Ultra 2022 is both a step forward and step backward for the Roku Ultra line as compared to their 2019 device.Roku Ultra 2022 (4802) versus the Roku Ultra 2019 (4670)All units were tested using original HDMI cables (when supplied) and 8k certified HDMI cables.PROs:Larger storage capacity means more channels can be stored without need for re-download.2022 has a faster boot-up which is made even more noticeable if the 2019 is using an SD card to store more channels. After initial boot-up, the 2022 is more responsive - this advantage disappears once the 2019 completes some background processes.Dolby Vision is included in the 2022 versionCONs:Intermittent HDCP errors plague the 2022 when used with a soundbar+TV or AV Receiver+TV, issue not ... MoreRoku Ultra 2022 is both a step forward and step backward for the Roku Ultra line as compared to their 2019 device.Roku Ultra 2022 (4802) versus the Roku Ultra 2019 (4670)All units were tested using original HDMI cables (when supplied) and 8k certified HDMI cables.PROs:Larger storage capacity means more channels can be stored without need for re-download.2022 has a faster boot-up which is made even more noticeable if the 2019 is using an SD card to store more channels. After initial boot-up, the 2022 is more responsive - this advantage disappears once the 2019 completes some background processes.Dolby Vision is included in the 2022 versionCONs:Intermittent HDCP errors plague the 2022 when used with a soundbar+TV or AV Receiver+TV, issue not experienced with the 2019.Random sound dropouts occur on the 2022 when used with a soundbar+TV or AV Receiver+TV, issue not experienced with the 2019.Rechargeable Remote - Listed under cons because it is not wireless recharge compatible, must be plugged in, easier to swap rechargeable AA batteries due to that missing functionality. No SD card slot for increased storage for additional channels beyond internal memory thus potentially requiring channel re-downloads.I own quite a number of Roku devices. Most purchased here on Amazon.I have purchased both new and open box Roku devices here on Amazon.I did not however purchase a brand new 2022 here on Amazon.I bought a brand new 2022 directly from Roku as they offered an upgrade deal on one of the 2019 units I already owned owned. The 2022 Roku Ultra is a solid performer capable of streaming from most services with high quality and all the bells and whistles you would expect.New for the 2022 is the rechargeable remote. I find this remote to be worse than prior remotes as the remote did not include wireless charging (so you can't just set it down and have it charge). The remote must be plugged in to charge and acts funky sometimes if you try to use it while charging. The 2022 unit has issues when connected to an AV Receiver + TV or Soundbar + TV. The issues do not appear to be present when connected directly to TVs/Monitors.One issue for the 2022 units when connected to AV Receiver + TV or Soundbar + TV is that a very rare intermittent HDCP error will flash for a few moments. This will often go away on its own after a second or 2.Another issue for the 2022 units when connected to AV Receiver + TV or Soundbar + TV is intermittent sound dropouts. This may be related to the same issue as that causes the HDCP issue. The HDCP and Sound issues mentioned do not occur on the two 2019 units I own.The HDCP and sound issues occur on all three 2022 units I own. Thus I have to conclude the problem is with the 2022 Roku units (I doubt it is the Sony soundbar + Sonmy TV or the Yamaha AV + Samsung TV especially given they work 100% with the 2019 units at 4k HDR10 at 60FPS).Final Recommendation:If you will be connecting directly to the TV or your really insist on Dolby Vision, get the 2020-2022 model Roku Ultra units (2020 has a normal remove, 2022 rechargeable remote). If you want a higher degree of overall compatibility and smoother watching experience when using a Soundbar + TV or AV Receiver + TV and don't need Dolby Vision, then I would recommend the 2019 Roku Ultra units.
The major difference between the Ultra & Ultra LT is the LT remote still uses replaceable batteries and does not have user programmable channel buttons. It does have the headphone jack.We ditched our cable provider's bundle and went with another internet provider and live TV streaming service. We moved our land line number to a budget cellular provider - and saved $100/month. While I have a couple older simpler Roku devices, I replaced all but one with the Roku Ultra LT. I'll recover all my expense within six months. The two additions I could wish for is the ability to control a separate sound device that cannot be controlled by the TV's volume control. But built-in would be better.
This is the 4th Roku we have purchased. We now have them on all of our tvs. This one is a smaller footprint but still delivers smooth and fast streaming as is the best thing about Roku. It was easy to set up and have had no issues with it at all so far. The voice feature is nice so as not to have to use the letters which takes forever. Also nice to have the earbud jack right on the side of the remote. Brilliant feature by Roku. My husband often wants to watch things that I don't, so he can listen to them without disturbing what I am doing in the same room. This one is an upgrade to the Roku 4 which we had for many years, which still works fine, (we use it on a smaller tv), but we wanted the updated features. We would never use any other streaming player.
After years of considering cutting the cord from satellite and reading reviews from well known companies, I purchased 3 Rokus devices to keep my televisions cohesive. I purchased 2 Roku Ultras devices and a steaming stick, and the problems started immediately. The volume goes out, and I have to totally reboot to restore the volume which means the program that I’m watching is interrupted. When the volume is not disappearing, it is making a very loud sputtering noise in which I have to reboot to get rid of. I reached out to customer service and after a very tedious process, I was sent a replacement which has the same problems. Roku is saying it’s my television, but the television works very well with an antenna and the channels that came on the television. The third device has freezing issues. The picture freezes, but the audio continues.Lastly, my remote is working intermittently, and honestly, I am not interested in paying $30 for a new remote.Customer service is horrible and has taught me never to purchase anything from a company that I cannot call and speak to someone. I will not purchase another Roku device, nor will I recommend. I am tempted to go back to satellite… at least I could call them when I need help.
