I thought I would just quickly say that I'm writing this review with experience with hamsters and there temperament. Now this cage is actually not suitable for any species of hamster but, I thought that instead of only listing the reasons this cage is bad for the hamster I would mention why it's bad for YOU as an owner.Due to this cages size you will have to clean it out at least once a week which soon becomes a very boring task. You have to remove all the pieces take out the bedding and then put it all together again (Very time consuming, NOT fun). Also due to the size of the cage it's very possible that your hamster may not be tameable, as the poor creature will have so much energy it will most likely be more aggressive and annoyed. The cage also has quite relatively small opening making it hard for you to interact with your furry friend. Now I'm going to talk more about the things about this cage that are bad for your hamster. First of, ad I have mentioned this cage is quite small. Hamsters have a surprising amount of energy so need quite a bit of space, to run, hide and play. Sadly due to this cages size you can't really add anything else to the cage. If you wanted to buy your furry friend a new wooden house it would not fit in this enclosure. The wheel in this cage is also not suitable for most species of hamster (including the Syrian, Chinese and dwarf hamster). Also you find with this cage that it concentrates more on the height then the floor space. Hamsters actually don't need vertical space and all the ledges for your hamster to climb are useless and don't give your hamster any enrichment.I think I should put out there that I personally recommend:Over 600sq inches of floor space for a Syrian hamsterAnd over 500sq inches for any over hamster.Although in the UK the bare minimum is 620sq inches of floor space (and possibly more). And now all I ask of you is to do a quick search: and you will find some great examples,Thank you for reading.

I bought this for my Syrian hamster as I read some good reviews about it, and it was on sale. However, upon building the product (there are no instruction manuals regarding construction), it was clear that this product was VERY flimsy. The 'levels' move back and forth easily, the ladders are too steep for the hamster, and it is too high.My hamster had a hard time climbing up the steep ladders, so resorted to throwing herself from the top to bottom levels, and climbing the cage in order to incline. I kept her in this cage for several hours hoping she would acclimate to the levels and ladders. Until she started experiencing some sort of seizure, darting back and forth, screaming and twitching; I blame this on a head injury as a result of her falling from the ... MoreI bought this for my Syrian hamster as I read some good reviews about it, and it was on sale. Bought this cage again after having two before with previous pets but they were in a different colour way. The cage comes with all the ramps, a wheel, a bed box, food dish and water bottle and step by step instructions on how to assemble it. There are different internal levels as well and there's were we start. Although the instructions are clear it is very fiddly to get them in, you'll definitely break a nail or two and don't assemble it around children because you'll probably swear too.The wheel that comes with it doesn't have enough clearance to actually turn, the ramp down from the bed box I've had to ram in as it seems a little too big for the fixture. The lid to the bed box is the same, it's very still which is good if you don't want to worry about the ... MoreBought this cage again after having two before with previous pets but they were in a different colour way. Excellent cage, lots of room. The only problem is the wheel was extremely squeaky until we oiled it and then when I was cleaning the cage it just snapped off. The wheel was a bit small for my Syrian hamster anyway so it was good that we got her a big, new one that fixed onto the bars of the first level. She loves running up and down the levels and watching the world go by on the middle level. She struggled to climb the ladders at first but got much better with practise. The ladder going to the hut has slipped a few times but that was easily fixed. There is lots of room downstairs for toys and running around. And she loves to climb on the bars, utilising every part of the cage. It is very convenient to have the water bottle accessible on the outside of the cage. The ... MoreExcellent cage, lots of room. The two doors make every level easy to reach by human hand. The hut is roomy and spacious and it is helpful that it opens on the outside of the cage and my hamster feels very safe in there.
I brought the same cage but a different colours from a fellow retailer,It's quite pricey but well worth it I'm so glad I brought this cage.I had a problem buying a suitable cage for my first hamster, I was told it had to be big enough so they don't get to bored so I found this and whent ahead and brought it.My Syrian hamster was only 10wks old when first I put her into the cage so she found it difficult to go up the ramps, which they are really steep but she finally managed the ramps the next day but she has always held onto the cage bars for support as she does slip down them. Especially the ramp that Leeds up to the house at the top, she has always stuggled to go up that too. Some mornings I would wake up and find she had knocked the ramp off and jumped into ... MoreI brought the same cage but a different colours from a fellow retailer,It's quite pricey but well worth it I'm so glad I brought this cage.I had a problem buying a suitable cage for my first hamster, I was told it had to be big enough so they don't get to bored so I found this and whent ahead and brought it.My Syrian hamster was only 10wks old when first I put her into the cage so she found it difficult to go up the ramps, which they are really steep but she finally managed the ramps the next day but she has always held onto the cage bars for support as she does slip down them. Especially the ramp that Leeds up to the house at the top, she has always stuggled to go up that too. Some mornings I would wake up and find she had knocked the ramp off and jumped into the house instead, the wheel had to be removed by my dad as it got to small for her so I replaced it with the PAH medium wheel and put it on the 1st level of the cage and thats the only thing that is the problem about this product, but apart from that, everything is amazing! She loves this cage so much, but now she is getting older she no longer goes up to the house as she can't manage it anymore so she sleeps in the bottom in the corner underneath the first platform and she loves it there! This is an amazing cage and has been standing for two years, well worth the money!!
I'm into our third week of owning this cage and it's driving me and my family insane! The main reason I went for this one is because of its supposedly quiet wheel. This is most certainly not the case! I expected some noise but this is the loudest creakiest wheel I have ever heard! I don't know if there is a fault with ours but it is so loud that even with the room door shut, we can hear the squeaky creaking all around our home-even upstairs! I've looked into buying a different kind of wheel but due to the positioning of the shelves I'd probably have to buy different shelves or ornaments to make it all work. Also, whilst searching I've come to realise I can buy this cage for less than half the price elsewhere online so by the time I replace everything needed I may as ... MoreI'm into our third week of owning this cage and it's driving me and my family insane! Also, whilst searching I've come to realise I can buy this cage for less than half the price elsewhere online so by the time I replace everything needed I may as well buy a new cage!Other than the wheel being ridiculously loud: It's tricky to get the shelves in and out, once clipped in you don't really want to clip them out but because of their positioning you need to to get to them to clean properly. Once out they clean nicely, the ramps are easily removed to be cleaned. The Hut at the top is great, I've not had the problem of escaping hamsters but ours are dwarf ones so maybe not strong enough? It could have done with a hatch on the water bottle hole for when taking it out, ours haven't escaped through there yet as we put them in exercise balls whilst changing the water etc but it's still a risk. The size is great for our two dwarf hamsters, plenty of room , it's just a shame on the wheel. Sorry Pets at Home but I will be calling you up to see if I can return it!
Loved the idea of multiple levels for our hamster to explore. It was difficult to put together and many of the plastic platforms cracked/snapped after a couple of months. Ramp which connects the hidebox at the top is not secured and so our hamster knocked it off almost every night exploring. Although he soon learned to pull himself up. After a couple of months in his new home he started to show signs of distress. He was always biting the wires and monkey barring. He was also too big to use the wheel provided and so had much more energy - contributing to his stress. We then relocated him into his old cage with larger floor space and he settled down within a couple of days. May it also be added that we provided him with lots of chew toys and let him out of the cage to ... MoreLoved the idea of multiple levels for our hamster to explore. This would be suitable for smaller hamsters but definitely not Syrians.
Does not meet the Blue Cross bare minimum of 80 x 50cm internally for hamsters. Base is far too shallow to allow suitable burrowing. Platforms are extremely dangerous due to hamsters being sight blind.Wheel is too small (does not meet 21cm minimum for dwarf hamsters/28cm minimum for syrian hamsters.Poor excuse of an animal enclosure and a huge welfare problem.
Bought this cage today, very faffy to build. Wasnt until it was fully built and had the sae dust in that one of the clips that keeps the cage attached to the tray decided to keep unclipping its self. Shop was closed so couldn't even take it back. Wouldn't recommend and will no doubt need to buy a different cage very soon due to that clip pinging off every 20 minutes leaving to cage easy to lift and for the hamster to easily escape! Its asif the clip is too short but it can only clip on to a certain bar.
i got this cage for my russian dwarf hamster and she is pretty small. i feel this cage was completely appropriate for such a small hamster like her, but after seeing the photo on the website i was appalled. my hamster is not even 1/4 of the size and i would only just about call it appropriate for her. THIS CAGE IS ONLY APPROPRIATE FOR SMALL DWARF HAMSTERS. i am actually working on making my own custom cage a lot bigger for my hamster because even though she's so small, I still feel it could be a lot lot better. if your hamster is like the one on the picture this site is displaying, IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE!!!!!!! hamsters need thick bedding as they very much love to burrow. that hamster is too big for this cage. it can be expensive to make your own cage, but i think it ... Morei got this cage for my russian dwarf hamster and she is pretty small. i feel this cage was completely appropriate for such a small hamster like her, but after seeing the photo on the website i was appalled. my hamster is not even 1/4 of the size and i would only just about call it appropriate for her.
