The rod is a fantastic Egi rod and was great to cast with 2.5 through to size 4 Daiwa jobs and even with sizeable tommy ruffs with a jag in them were no issues and I have it coupled to a rovex reel with Daiwa 8x braid and a fluorocarbon leader and it casts extremely well so I am really happy with it. My little fellah was a touch rough with it and did break the rod tip but it’s a good enough rod and a decent price so I’ve bought a new one so that’s all that you need to hear really.

Great light rod, nice guides and liking the lure clip, paired up with LT 2000 reel is nicely balanced and great value

For $50...pretty hard to beat. Comparable rods $150-$350. Its for squid for goodness sake. Perfect on the boat and has done the job.

First squids catches with this rod in my life. I caught so many then. I have never used any other egi rod but this is enough.
Was looking for an inexpensive EGI rod to see if it was worthwhile getting the specialized before I invested in a more expensive rod. For the money money, I cannot fault it. It casts 4.0 jigs without too much fuss and gives great control when you are hooked up. I didn't look after it as well as I do with my other tackle and it is still going strong and seems fairly robust. Yes, I will upgrade - but not while it is still going as strong as it is.
I bought this a month ago and have used it a couple times, first time on New Years day and I caught my second biggest squid. hahaha I know it's not the rod but it still feels good using specialist equipment.
Perfect for any lure fishing or squid jigging. The rod is incredible light and perfectly paired with a lightweight 1000 or 2000 reel. Quality eyelets made for jigging. Highly recommend for jetty fishing.
Unfortunately , Jarvis walker need to re-think their approach to the design of a dedicated squid rod. The blank is obviously quite stiff making the ability to work a jag as you retrieve a less than easy process.The positives- Very light when paired with a 1000 or 2000 series reel, and gives an impressive cast range.Unfortunately the stiffness of the blank lets the overall useability of the rod down. Fit, finish and quality of the handle material also leaves a lot to be desired.Happy Squidding!
have never had a purpose built egi rod until now and can see the differences, parabolic bend to prevent hook pulls plus extra length for shore fishing , well made rod
Rovex squid rod is heavier and handle is longer than other brand squid rod. The long handle causes poor balance so I easily felt tired after starting egiing. I tried it once and had a refund. This rod was the worst for squid fishing that I used.
