I needed to swatch this yarn for a project but didn't want to spend $20 on a full skein, just in case I wanted to try another yarn, so I was thrilled that Piper's Yarn Barn had a partial skein of this yarn for sale! It was more than enough for the swatches I needed to make - and Karen included a bonus partial skein of yarn, as well! Totally surprised me and made my day - thank you Karen!

I have used Rowan worsted for knitting blanket squares, have made one in pinks and creams, one in deep pink reds and creams and am now making one in blues and purples. The wool knits up very well and feels beautifully soft, so the blankets have been very well received by family . There are a great range of colours to catch the eye and I seem to be drawn to adding a new colour to my collection whenever I spot a new addition to the collection. I really recommend this range for any knitting or crochet project

Great soft and well-priced wool yarn

Knitting up a scarf for my OH and switched from a not-very-chunky chunky yarn bought online elsewhere, to this excellent super chunky that I found in store. Knew I could rely on JL haberdashery for some high quality yarn! He's already pleased with how soft the merino is and the colour (steel blue) is really lovely and looks classy. It's a pleasure to knit with. (Using 12mm needles as no 10mm needles available in store but these work fine, and you can use up to 15mm needles)I thought this was really well-priced for 100% wool - the only similar one was JL's own brand that was £2 cheaper but not merino and not as thick, which is what I needed for this scarf.

I liked this yarn very much
5 December 2021

This yarn was different from the soft merinos that I usually knit with, as I am not working with traditional Northern European yarns very often. it was springy and had more body. I liked that it was a two-ply that I did not have to use a smaller needle on, as it is working well with a US size 5 / 3,75mm. The colors were a little too traditional for my taste but I am making a mulitcolor project anyway tht is turning out very nice. My favorite colors are the bright blue and the white and I am going to make the Rowan dickey pattern in those colors instead of the red shown in the pattern. I like the bright red and wish that the gold and green were just a little brighter. Maybe different colors can be offered next year.

I would buy this yarn again.
15 December 2022

Used this to make a cowl for my daughter. Lacey, light, super soft. Lovely color and sheen to show off decorative stitching. It was easy to work with--no splitting. I would buy it again to make accessories to wear next to the skin.

Nice DK wool
3 March 2023

I love working with this yarn. Definitely a DK but the way it blooms when blocked makes it seem a bit thicker. It is slightly crispy but not uncomfortably scratchy. You just need to know it's not like a superwash wool. It felts well & self cleans like a real wool should. Price pt is high but the stitch definition for colorwork is lovely. I will definitely use it again but I'll get it on sale. I'm looking forward to new colors.

I love this Norweign wool. It's soft and easy to knit with. I am making Arne & Carlis Norweign Christmas balls and they are looking really nice. I would buy this yarn again. In fact I may have to so I can finish 24 Christmas ball🌲

Review of Rowan Big Wool
8 March 2021

I actually bought the Rowan Big Wool in Forrest, rather than Biscotti. It is a nice, soft merino yarn, but I was a wee bit disappointed with it. For a start it's not just as chunky as I was expecting and the fabric it is producing on 10 and 12 mm needles is a little looser than I would like, even though they are the sizes recommended on the ball band. It is also a little inclined to split and one of the balls had two knots in it. it also has quite a lot of wee bits of foreign material in it, like maybe plant material, which I have to pick out.As I said, itis nice and soft and I expect the jumper I'm working on to be absolutely fine, but I did expect a better product from a premium brand. Rowan Big Wool 086 Normandy
21 April 2021

I bought this wool to do the under-coat cowl in the Rowan book 'the basics'. Of course I can knit but I wanted the pattern. It is a wonderful knit! My daughter claimed the first one, a friend the second and I have yet to knit another for me. Love the wool. Love the pattern. It's as warm as toast and knitted in an evening.Last Christmas, everyone got a Rowan worsted weight hat. Next Christmas, everyone will get a cowl. Rowan Big Wool is a joy to knit with.If I had kept onne long enough I would have sent a photograph. I will next time.I do think it would be a good idea for Rowan to bring this pattern out as a single. it was a bit potty to buy to buy the whole learn to knit book when the pattern I wanted was only 13 lines long!

quite disapointing
10 January 2023

Big Big wool it really isn't and i was quite disappointed when i received it.The yarn itself measures roughly 5mm across where yarn I've had before that advertises itself as Big is approx 10mm. You could use 12mm needles but when i tried i got fairly large gaps in the resulting knit.
