My German Shepherd loves royal Canin. Her breeder uses it exclusively with some fresh meaty bones and my dog isn't keen on any other kibble. She was on the Maxi, but was very enthusiastic when I switched her to the breed specific kibble. She loves this with her bones and a bit of fresh meat.

I used to get this for my GSD all the time, however after looking into the ingredients I have found out that this product it is full of fillers like rice and corn (maize). With the main ingredient being rice, and this food still having a high price tag I wasn't very happy about it. I understand a lot of the dried dog foods do have rice or corn in them however you wouldn't expect them to be the main ingredient in the food. I also found that the feeding guideline for this product are extreme and the dog should only be fed about 2/3 of what is recommended. My German Shepherd is quite active and would be busy playing during the day, go out for a 4km run/walk daily and we would throw the ball around for about 15-20 minutes. The recommendation from their guidelines for his size is 379g low activity, 499g moderate activity & 579g high activity, however I would only be feeding him roughly around 340g (4 cups) a day and I would class him as moderate activity and he definitely isn't hungry or requiring more food. I don't understand why they would advertise to feed your dog more food then is necessary especially since German Shepherds are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia and for them to be carrying more weight then necessary can cause lots of problems. My dog also did go through a stage where he just would not eat his food at all. He is very happy to now be on the BARF raw food diet.

We used to use other foods but since using Royal Canin my dog doesn't do smelly farts, his skin and fur stays fresh much much longer and best of all we only have to pick up once a day and that too doesn't smell bad. My dog is nearly 10 years old and still like an eager pup/ What more could you ask for. I have had other dogs before not on R.C. and the story is quite different.
