I enjoy having a leash that can go around my waist, especially when it gets really cold outside. My hands can stay warm in my pockets. The downside of this is that the attachment between my dog and my body gets on the short side. I wish the leash was made a bit longer; one foot more leash would have nailed it. This way my dog would have more freedom to roam and take in more of the world through his senses.

I am so happy I purchased the Flat Out Adjustable Dog Leash! I love that I can wear it around my waist and be completely hands-free, or if I need to have a shorter grip on my dog I can hold the built-in loop closer to the clasp end. It feels secure hooked to the back of his harness, and he’s a pretty big boy (approx. 60 lbs, taller, athletic breed) and very strong. Having the leash anchored around my waist gives me more control and prevents him from tugging as much. I finally feel like I’m taking him for a walk instead of the other way around!

I love how versatile the flat out leash is. Being able to hook the handle to your chair as you & your pup enjoy a cool one after a hike is my favorite feature! I also love knowing that the clasp won’t fail! (Although hooked to the harness it turns my pup’s hair black! ) I would have given a perfect five stars, except that the handles wear out so soon! The leashes themselves last forever, but I end up buying new ones constantly because the handles were out so quickly.

I got this leash because my dog likes to run in circles and pull my arm out of its socket when we walk, which makes for picking up his poop and other walk-related activities a pain. So far, this has worked great, and my dog can’t get into things! The only thing I’d suggest for improvement, is making the leash slightly longer (like 8ft), so the dog has a little bit more space when the leash is used around my waist. If you had an 8ft leash like this, I’d snap it up in a heartbeat.
We bought two of these leashes for our golden retrievers because of their great design characteristics. The latches for the collars are great, holding up even after two months use in a saltwater environment. The padded handles are also very nice and having a quick release buckle is marvelous for hooking the leash to something like a dinghy handle! The short hand loop is a great idea, but even with a 75 pound golden who is tall and lanky, its just a bit too short. The most difficult aspect is the webbing itself, while being very strong it is too thin and hard, one good lunge and if you're not holding the padded handle the webbing will cut your hand. We really wanted to love these leashes, but they're still not perfect.
This is a great leash - as all of Ruffwear's leashes are. I love the fun tropical design in pink (not enough pink dog stuff in the world, I tell ya!).I wish there were a much longer version though! My husband and I aren't tiny runner people - no shade to runners, but we're more mid-sized - and if you adjust for my husband's waist size on this leash, you're not left with much leash at all, which makes our 90 lbs Shepsky a little sad. We have found that it has come in handy in other instances, like when we're at lunch and need to put the leash around a leg or something. But it would be nice to have a longer leash in this design. It really is a great leash which is why I didn't dock it a star for length option.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that this leash can be worn around my waist! And that it has a buckle so it's easy to attach around my waist or anything else (like a picnic table). Our new rescue pup is still learning not to pull. When he sees a squirrel or gets excited on a hike and sprints with all his force to the end of the leash, it's so much more comfortable for him to pull hard on my waist than my arm! I also like the patterns and colors. Thanks for making a green option!
We started out with the Front Range dog leash and had that leash for about 5-6 years, and it still looks relatively new! When we got a new harness, we decided to upgrade our leash to the Flat Out Adjustable leash, and it hasn't disappointed us!We love that we now have the option to wear it around our waist and/or shorten the lead, but our #1 favorite part - and a huge seller for us - is the talon clip. While rare, our wiggle worm would sometimes get out of the Crux clip on our old leash. But gone are those days! 10/10 recommend.Plus, we get a lot of compliments on the cute design.
I love the versatility of this leash but I wish is was a little easier to grip on the parts that are not padded. I do like the lower hand hold but it would be nice if this was padded. I do have a puppy still in training so maybe with a calmer dog this would not be an issue. I like the sliding ring, but wish it could be locked down in some way. Overall it is a good leash with nice features.
