The clip is amazing! No more weird devices or two handed operation to get a leash secure. Just push the button and hook on. Very convenient. 4 Stars because I really don't know what the loop stitched in near the hook is for. It just ends up in my puppy's face and distracts him. If it was for strength, add stitching instead. I like the color, I like the material, just delete the loop and add a hole for the doggy poo pouch. I hate that I have to unzip and zip it everytime.

The leash itself is a decent length and allows my dog to run comfortably next to me. The biggest downside is that the metal attachment point easily gets gummed up with dirt or sand. Within a few minutes of attaching and unattaching the leash from the collar, the metal clasp had lots of dirt around it which made opening it almost impossible. It also meant that once it was open, it didn't automatically close resulting in the collar jumping out. The design seems good on paper but in real use I found the metal clasp difficult to use and required constant cleaning and washing to ensure NOTHING got into the mechanism. The locking feature on the clasp is a great idea and was useful to ensure the collar didnt slip out but the issue listed above is why it lost stars.

I have two Front Range Dog Leashes one is purple and the other is Red Clay and they each have a Front Range Harness that matches which i also have.. Most of the pictures you see on the site are larger dogs that go hunting or hiking but I have a 10 pound Yorkshire Terrier (yorkie) and these harnesses are perfect for them. I had many harnesses for my Toby but he would chew them apart or they pulled too much on his throat. Yorkies are known to have trachea problems and all owners of this breed know to use a harness . Well Toby has chewed on this harness and the leashes mostly to no avail and the harness fits perfect for the throat and he pulls a lot. Ruffwear, we will love you forever, but the clasp is a dealbreaker for this otherwise perfect leash. Even new, the clasp was hard to fasten, awkward to lock, and difficult to undo. After trying to overlook its flaws for over a year, it’s become increasingly more difficult to use and has resulted in safety issues. The plastic lock has gotten harder to slide and secure in place, making it very difficult to lock and unlock. If you’re not extremely careful to really push to secure it, the lock will slide back to a spot where it keeps the clasp open, resulting in the whole leash disconnecting from the collar. I have used many leashes over the years for my dogs and by far the front range is my new favorite. Besides being so comfortable to hold (especially since I hold three at a time) they are so strong and durable. The locking clip is a huge relief for my husky as regular clips have popped off or broken on him numerous times and the front range has never unlocked.My border collie puppy plays tug with his leash daily and the front range leash still doesn't have any rips from him having his fun.The traffic loop is such a nice feature for being able to easily hold my three dogs closer while we are crossing roads or passing other dogs in the trails.
I just took our 5 month old chocolate lab on a walk using the Front Range dog leash. I loved the leash! It is very comfortable in my hand, as it is padded inside the hand loop, but yet thin enough that my hand is very comfortable while holding the leash.I also love the clasp. It was very easy to put on and off, and it is not big, bulky and clanky like the leash we have been using. I also love the “twist” ability between the clasp and leash so that the leash moves as we move.Added bonus is the poop bag loop! I actually had to use it about a 1/4 from home, and it was very helpful! So easy to tie a bag on and not have to hold it during a walk!This is our 3rd dog and we have tried all kinds of leashes, mostly the nylon type leashes, and they always rubbed my hands to ... I wish it was a bit thicker, my dog used to be a flight risk, so a thin leash that he can bite through easily does make me a bit nervous, but he wears two leashes and hasn't bit one in over a year.I wish the traffic handle at the bottom was a bit easier to grab. It takes me a second to open it up and get my hand through, which defeats the purpose if I need it quickly. It is sometimes great to have a shorter leash without merely wrapping the longer leash around your hand. This is a great item, but unfortunately it was not for me. That's because of the length. My dog is not tiny, But she is too short for this leash to work. I need either longer arms or a taller dog. This leash is about twelve inches long when you insert your hand into the loop. If your dog's back is more than twelve inches from your hand, you may have a problem. If my dog was taller this leash would be a lifesaver. So, take your dog's height into consideration before ordering. Ruffwear makes a longer "Short leash" and I will be exchanging for that one.

This leash will probably only be used in the winter with long pants and gloves from now on, which is a shame because I really liked the functionality of it—it’s just ... This is a fine leash, and my disappointment is really my fault. But I don’t understand why it’s thinner than the Front Range collar and that the colors of the two don’t entirely match. I don’t know when this changed, but in past years, I could get matching collar and leash. It’s my fault for not checking the dimensions of the leash. But it’s frustrating that a colors don’t match across the board. I would like to see all collar colors available in every leash of similar design. First world problems, I know. Just make sure you look at what you’re buying to make sure you will like it. The Front Range is not as comfortable to hold in that narrow strip of fabric like the Crag.
