Ankle Straps could go a little snugger and a little higher. They wrapped right at the dew claws. Nothing vet wrap and socks couldn't fix. Otherwise, a real paw-saver. First day of a week long trip, her toepads on all 4 paws got glued together with pine sap, took forever to get out. After that, she wore them for the rest of the trip with no complaint. Terrain was forest, pine cones, loose gravel, hard dirt, sand, hot asphalt and cement. Bonus, she came into the tent with clean feet. The lichen green color and reflective trim made it easy to find when one fell off. At the time, it was just me and her. Reflective trim worked great for night time walks at home. I loved them and most importantly she loved them too.

Our German Shepherd has DM. It causes him to drag his back feet across the ground so he was getting bloody knuckles on the top of his feet. He also has trouble with our hardwood floors. Our vet recommended Ruffwear when we asked about getting some sort of boot to protect his feet. He's been wearing them daily for most of the day since we got them. He does much better on our hardwood floors and his knuckles have healed. I like the fact that these "breathe" since he's in them most of the day and they're doing what they need to do for me. My dog instantly adapted to these which was kind of disappointing because I was looking forward to goofy walking lol. We climbed a mountain yesterday and I brought them with just in case, on the way down she kept sitting so I put them on (with socks) and it was like she was so excited to have them on she wanted to fly down the trail, the rocky trail (not skree) was more irritating for her paws than I realized. She thought she was invincible now lol, but they are definitely more slick than just paws so she did slide a few times on steep dirt and tripped on bigger rocks while getting used to wearing them.Only gripe - I think I bought and returned three separate pairs before I finally got ones that fit, so who knows how much these ended up costing after the shipping ... MoreMy dog instantly adapted to these which was kind of disappointing because I was looking forward to goofy walking lol. The designers do not take into account how giant paws are shaped. I got the boots that fit her width exactly and they were too small because of how tall her paws are too. I did a video fitting with an employee after my first order failure and the sizes that were recommended to me also didn't fit (couldn't even get on) and if I had listened about keeping 3" for the front paws, she would've been in so much pain. I ended up just getting the biggest ones for the front and second biggest for back and hoped for the best, and they fit great, but according to their sizing (and person from video call) it would be too big. Silver lining, with her fat paws these definitely aren't falling off. I think socks are definitely required for overall comfort though. One last thing, after my own measuring failed, and meeting with an employee for a video call fitting failed, I tried asking for some advice via the chat and it was the most useless "help" feature I've ever seen. Is it just an AI that copies and pastes their FAQ info? Not at all helpful and honestly it really irritated me, and that ****** thing popping up all the time while I'm trying to shop now just irritates me more.I love Ruffwear and own probably half their products lol but my biggest complaint is that their large/xl sizes are not designed for actually large/xl dogs, so when following their chart for the really big sizes, they are assuming paws are still shaped like a golden retriever's. Or in the case with vests, they assume the dog is just fat and not actually extra large in shape so while the girth is well within the range they say, the arm holes don't even reach.

While I know dog's don't really need** booties, as a former Meteorologist I found it to be contradictory to tell people to be cautious when walking their fur babies out during the hot summer months while mine was stepping out on the hot asphalt. However, since leaving the industry and moving back to Los Angeles this meant more opportunities to enjoy mother nature and lots of hikes that Florida couldn't really offer. I've had so many recs for boots but I loved these cute booties because Cali is a cocker spaniel and she's always had big puppy paws so the range in sizes was perfect when determining the right ones. I've had so many recs for boots but I loved these cute booties because Cali is a cocker spaniel and she's always had big puppy paws so the range in sizes was perfect when determining the right ones. With that said, it was tricky getting the right fit but it was worth it! They really have kept her paws protected from broken glass and debris we find that homeless leave around AND have given her phenomenal traction when pouncing and running over slippery rocks when hiking to waterfalls. She waddled at first but eventually has gotten used to them. We usually get questions on these boots from avid hikers to folks at our neighborhood dog park and prefer them over cheap ones from Amazon and petco. I honestly will use these more as we approach the summer months. So worth it and will keeps our baby Cali protected.
We love these boots — very well-made, and they seem comfortable. We got them for summer when his Summit Trex are too warm. My only complaint is that the ankles are pretty big, so we have to cinch them up past the tag on the strap (overlapping the mesh edges) to get them to stay on. My dog has thin ankles, but it would be nice to make the gusset slightly wider so the sides don’t overlap so much. To be fair, this is our second pair of RW boots with this issue, so it’s obviously not major. Also, my dog wears a 2.0 on his back feet, and a 2.25 on the front. the 2.25’s are noticeably taller, and only just fit under his dew claw pad on the back of his leg. They rub slightly while breaking in, but that’s typical of high-quality boots, and we just use the socks or some vet ... MoreWe love these boots — very well-made, and they seem comfortable. They’re great for hikes, service work, and wam weather in general! LOVE the reflective tape — it makes it much easier to make sure they’re all still on and track down one if it’s lost. Wish all RW boots had this!
The boots are some of the most expensive on the market. They are well made and that at least justifies the price - I rather pay more for something that’s durable and functional than a cheaper alternative that won’t last. Being able to buy front and back paw boots in different sizes is definitely a plus, since fit is important to successful use. That said, getting the right fit is a bit hit or miss. I followed instructions and still had to make an exchange, however, that’s easy to do, as long as you calculate for the extra time. I’m sure I got the right size now, but my dog is not really a fan. I did a slow intro as advised, but he still just rather goes barefoot. I did a slow intro as advised, but he still just rather goes barefoot. We have worked our way up to a mile of running with boots, there are no chafe marks on his feet and no boot came off - they are working as supposed to. I’m not really sure what would make my dog like them more - for that, I’d have to try other boots and see if there’s a difference. Perhaps being a bit longer and not sitting so close to the dew claws might help, or if the boots would not fold on bent feet but were manufactured a little bent (more like human shoes, if that makes sense). I would also love if left and right boots would close in opposite directions, so I know which boot belongs on which foot without marking them (front and back are distinguishable by size). All in all really nice boots (and I do use them with socks), there’s just no way to predict how a dog likes them without using them and starting to break them in. At that point, they can’t be returned as a new and unused item and if a dog just doesn’t like them, it’s a lot of money gone. That’s the risk of trying something new.
This is VERY clearly noted - in the listing title, the photo and as the first line in the details - to be a PAIR of booties. A pair means TWO. Dogs do indeed have 4 paws, so you will need TWO PAIR. The reason they are sold this way is clearly explained and much appreciated by dog owners who understand that some dogs benefit from having a larger PAIR of booties for the front PAIR of paws.Don’t ding a product because you can’t read or understand the description. If you think they are expensive, don’t fit well, etc., that’s all fair. But don’t give a poor rating due to your inability to understand the listing. TWO PAIR of these boots still cost less than the pair of boots I hike in when my dog and I adventure, and personally, I feel my dog is worth that investment.
I got these to protect my dog's paws from the Florida-heated concrete. After walking him 3+ miles a day, his paws were getting torn up so I decided we needed a better option than trying to time our walks with the temp. So, we got some shoes. My first set didn't fit him well - I ordered them too big, but the really wonderful folks on your support team helped me re-measure, looked at photos, and explained how they should fit better, and I got him better fitting ones.He still walks like a dork when we first put them on. He has had to learn to pick his feet up a little more than when he isn't wearing them. We started with short 5 minute walks, then 10, and now we're up to 20 minute walks in them with no problems. Honestly the tread is nice except if you know what it’s like to have blisters on your feet then you know how fast you put socks on to help. So dogs have the little claw on the left side and it’s like the thumb so that being said people do not have thumbs on their feet. That would be challenging if you had to have a sock on also. So with some minor chafing that caused some slight bleeding it made the boot on that exact foot way too painful and or uncomfortable he was fighting just to get that boot off. He didn’t mind the other boots at all. So it was observed that Just that one hurt foot because of the boot there was a significant increase in the pain enough to fight to get the boot off.
