I've been using Ruffwear harnesses for several years and have come to rely on them for their consistency and overall quality and care. They're well-made and hold up to regular use with aplomb. I love the colours, particularly as a regular runner and hiker, for how striking they are and the contrast they provide. It easily identifies a dog at a distance, which gives others using the backcountry or trails a heads up. My late shepherd had three different vests during our time together — all held up, I just misplaced one during a move and later found it, leaving me with two of the same, while the other was a more backcountry friendly model — and this is my first with my heeler puppy. I've tried a couple other models from different brands, always intending to graduate him into Ruffwear once he had grown up a bit more, but pulled the trigger last month and am really pleased. I've already taken him out two or three times in it and he has done excellently. It's given me more peace of mind as well, knowing he's now got a proper harness (and therefore, more security) whether we're going distances or off in strange places where he might feel shy or uncertain initially. I look forward to many years of adventure together.

Arlo has two Free Range Harnesses- which is uses daily. We decided to try the High and Light as a lighter harness- for warmer weather and to wear under his winter jacket.Th excellent e quality is what we have come to expect from Ruffwear. Color was not what we expected. The salmon is more like a pink and the LIchen Green is not as bright as we had hoped for hunting season. Very nice colors but not what we expected for him but we guess that "Real Male Pups" wear pink! Or he does now! The leash fastener is a bit smaller than on the Free Range- but totally usable.Just like the Front Range- the loop in the front is great to help with "pulling" which Arlo does sometimes since he is a hunting breed. He has been wearing it daily- for both morning runs and afternoon trail ... MoreArlo has two Free Range Harnesses- which is uses daily. This is my dog's third harness (he's a puppy, not a harness destroyer). His first two were the Front Range model, which we liked but found a bit stiff and prone to matting his doodle fur. With the Hi & Light he has zero matting! He's a hot guy and the lighter material also seems to keep him more comfortable. A big issue for us with both models is the neck/chest hole is WAY too big for my skinny guy. When he was wearing an XS we'd have to open the neck up to go over his head then take it in almost all the way for a good fit - he's still working on his walking manners so we use the front attachment. He needed to move up to the S to comfortably go around his chest but the neck doesn't go small enough for a snug fit. This would have been alright on the Front Range but the Hi & Light straps seem to slide around much more. I can tighten him up before a walk and by the time we get home, all four straps have loosened up quite a bit. The quality of the harness is great overall and I can hope he'll grow into the S neck a bit more but the constantly loosening straps do make me nervous that he could slip right out if I'm not diligent about tightening everything up before every walk.

We have a 5 month old chocolate lab that measures about 26" around his girth, so I ordered the size medium. I watched the video to see tips on how to fit it correctly onto our puppy. It looks so easy on the video with a mature, very calm dog. I have tried two times to or more to fit it correctly onto our squirmy, biting puppy, and still do not have it fitted correctly yet for a walk. We will take a break and try again later. I simply cannot pull the pieces tight easily when it is on my puppy. It looks like I am going to love the harness however, because there are no large buckles right behind his front legs like other harnesses. And I love that it is so lightweight. I will review further once I get it on him and walk with him! Haha! Not sure how many stars to give ... MoreWe have a 5 month old chocolate lab that measures about 26" around his girth, so I ordered the size medium. I chose an XXS for my 10 pounds chihuahua and this is the only harness that fit him well - he seems comfortable, there are no chafing behind the front legs like some other harnesses did in the past. The harness stay in place even if he tries sometimes to evade because he saw a squirrel somewhere! Love the cut on the top behind the neck, it doesn’t restricts movement of the head and I like that nothing touch the neck area where chihuahuas are fragile/prone to collapsed trachea. I will buy another color, I have the charcoal/light blue one and absolutely love that they have harness for smaller dogs that aren’t too heavy (in facts it’s so lightweight!!)! It’s really easy to remove mud after you did trail, just need to rinse it in water and no sand stand on it! I have a VERY active Hungarian Puli who runs for about 2 hours a day. She is 21 pounds and has a LOT of curly fur. Her last harness had a large ring on the back- and it pulled her hair because it got wrapped in the ring. If would take that other harness out of the drawer, she would dive under the furniture or run up the stairs. If I took out a standard collar, she would walk over to me and sit down. Every other harness I have tried got the "run under the sofa and refuse" treatment. Not this one. I had to talk her into it the first time- and now, when I pull it out and show her that it is this specific harness- she walks right over and sits down. It's really comfortable for her, and it hits the right area behind her front legs so it doesn't bind or encroach her range ... MoreI have a VERY active Hungarian Puli who runs for about 2 hours a day. If I show her this harness or the collar and ask which one she wants, she touches this harness with her nose. I can't help but just feel happy that she is running unencumbered by a neck collar, in a harness that she can't even feel. She will run and run in this harness, just for the sheer joy of it.
We were drawn to the Hi & Light harness for our Pembroke Welsh Corgi because of its light design. Previously we had been using a bulkier harness from another maker that had only one under-body strap. The sturdy leash clip was also a plus. After a brief test around the backyard, we returned it in favor of Ruffwear's Flagline model. The Flagline has the same DNA as the Hi & Light but features another set of under-body straps that suit our Corgi's long body. We now have a total of three Flagline harnesses. One for the Pembroke and two for our Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Both of these harness models are well made and can be easily adjusted to fit. They're easy on and off. First of all I love this harness! It'sturdy and well made. Its got the front clip, the back clip, and an area for dog tags (for someone with a thin four pound Chihuahua this is luxury). I also love that it doesn't get right in my dog's armpits as many others do. However, due to my super tiny thin dog being a super tiny thin dog, I have had to make 2 alterations (which seems to a curse upon 3x small dog owners). The first one was easy, use a seam ripper to undo the straps around the neck part to give it a better fit as it was too loose. The second alteration is less easy and I handed it off to one of my neighbors who is a tailor. The top part of the harness digs into the back of my dog's neck and I'm hoping he can give it more of a "U" shape than a "I" shape. I ... MoreFirst of all I love this harness! The top part of the harness digs into the back of my dog's neck and I'm hoping he can give it more of a "U" shape than a "I" shape. I suspect this is only an issue because the neck part is too loose and thus has to be brought closer to said neck in order to be tightened properly. If you have a larger dog with a thicker neck it probably wouldn't be a problem. It really is a great harness. But if you have a dog like mine, expect to make some alterations or keep looking.
My dog is extremely gear-shy, i.e. he runs and hides when most harnesses make an appearance. I've tried a bunch of different harnesses, and this one is the only one he seems to tolerate. It's super lightweight, doesn't impede his motion while running, and doesn't have alot of extra fabric to annoy him. We run & hike long distances regularly, and I have not encountered any issues with his long hair matting or tangling underneath, even with a dog that swims in every body of water and then vigorously rolls afterwards. It does have a front clip, although it is not very robust. Fortunately my dog is not much of a puller, so the back clip works great for us.Only giving this four stars because the first color I purchased (salmon) was adorable, but light enough that it ... MoreMy dog is extremely gear-shy, i.e. he runs and hides when most harnesses make an appearance. You may not encounter this if your dog does not enjoy swimming and rolling in the mud as much as mine :)
These are great harnesses for several reasons. I've never liked that collars can choke if you have a hyper pup and often, they will outgrow the collar and it's not always obvious that they are slowly cutting off the air supply. The problem with most body collars is that it's hard to find the right size. Many manufactures make them in Small, Medium, or Large and then bigger from there. These have much more Extra Small sizes than I've seen so it is much easier to find the right fit for our variously sized pups. Even though it's listed as XS, it has enough adjustment to fit most small to medium dogs and has a cool pocket for poop bags or whatever your furry friend needs when out on a walk. Plus it's reflective! Raven and I couldn't be happier with this harness. A big ... MoreThese are great harnesses for several reasons.
