Picked this vest over the adv skin vest despite having fewer features because the inner fabric is much less abrasive. Unfortunately this means compromising on features I miss, such as having more pockets (this vest could really use a couple more pockets!), but overall this vest is good. The zipped compartment in the back is large, but it doesn't stretch like the adv skin vest - this also means it feels a bit more durable however, so it could be seen as a positive too. The ease of adjusting the size to fit your body is very appreciated and effective. The bungee on the back to keep bag contents secure and avoid bouncing is also quite good. Overall would recommend it so far, although it is still quite new.

I was concerned about the bouncy, but this was the perfect upgrade to my Osprey Dyna 1.5. The reservoir from my Osprey even works with this. The latching system for the reservoir is not the best, it does slip down, but I found that if I run my hose through it, it'll keep it secure enough. Since there's no place to put the mouthpiece I bought a magnetic clasp off Amazon and that has worked well so far. Spacious but doesn't have nearly as much pockets as I thought it would. I do love the chord cinching, though. It feels snug and secure without feeling like I'm suffocating when I try to take a deep breath.

I'm 5'7, 150lb female and I went with the Unisex Medium. When it arrived I tried it on and didn't want to take it off. Very comfortable, well-designed, and easily adjusted to fit perfect. I love the large, back zip compartment to hold additional clothing because it can be tricky dressing right in the spring & fall. There is also a separate compartment in the back for a hydration bladder to slip it into. I am going to use this for long runs but also hiking with my dogs so I can bring a few layers along. Great product!

The Salomon Active Skin 8 works perfect! The mesh side pockets are perfect for stashing lite mitts or a buff mid run while on the move. The mesh pockets also work great for snacks or gels and are easy to access. The zippered pocket is a perfect and secure spot for a phone. The soft flasks taste funny for the first use or two but after that with enough rinsing are great and run and move well, they have minimal movement or slosh due to the way they fit the pack and the smaller volume. I like the easy and quick chest adjustment strap which you can adjust on the fly as you consume water or need a change up. The large pocket on the back can hold a lot if needed, this weekend I fit my shell and my daughters sweater in it. Seems durable. I have loved this vest for 11 months. It fits so well that I wear it on most runs, even the short ones, because I can carry my phone, resistance bands, a first aid kit, and tote bags so conveniently. Hard paces are no problem. I usually use a bladder instead of the bottles, which is fine except for the indifferent drinking tube management. I wish the inside pocket zipped instead of just folding over, for more security. Finally, the reason for the 3 stars, is that while still under warranty, the outside key pocket zipper has separated from the fabric, so I'll be returning the whole pack (I had the same problem on a Salomon belt that used the same style zipper).
Product was great, however didn't fit quite right. Was bought on sale, figured I'd be able to change if needed.Was offered a refund only, apparently their 'system can't do exchange', was going to be an extra $60 without sale price, was told nothing they can do about it.MD's physical stores were awesome, what a sad little shell this company has become on the internet. Seriously, what type of online store can't do exchange for same price when something doesn't fit.Sold it on Marketplace to someone it fitted rather than return and let MD's make some more profit off the product.
Fairly new convert to training with a hydration vest. Started with a cheap, different brand one. Bought the Salomon as an upgrade. Chose a unisex one after reviews about sides being too high. This one is totally unobtrusive, mesh sides and elastic front fastenings mean no annoying moving straps whilst running. position of pockets seem well thought out. Did find back a bit sweatiy after a long run though.
I bought my Salomon Active Skin 8 over a year ago and it is still going strong. I had to replace the bottles but that wasn’t a big deal and I have since added an Osprey 1.5L bladder. I recently loaded up the vest to use it in place of a hiking backpack and it was awesome! I managed to fit my Arc’teryx Beta AR jacket, a first aid kit, headlamp, snacks, beanie, tissues, Garmin InReach, Leatherman, keys, wallet, and the water bottle & bladder in it comfortably for a trail run/hike.The cinch works great, its hand washable and looks brand new every time, and I still believe the cinch closure & overall quality is superior to other brands’ offerings in this category. For the money you can’t go wrong with this vest.
Felt I had to revise my review after returning the original vest and re-purchasing. Though it has the same name, Salomon has significantly upgraded various features of the vest, including the zipper that tore on my original. The zipper is now higher quality and operates more smoothly. They enlarged the enclosed pocket so now it can hold a big phone. They also redesigned the tube restraints on the shoulder strap to be more secure. I was a little nervous trading my gray version in for this "aloe" color, but it's still pretty close to gray and looks sharp. Thanks to REI for the warranty and to Salomon for the improvements.
Long time ultra runner, first Salomon vest. Very well thought out and accessible. Bounce was minimal, didn't really notice it after the first mile. I can fit a 2 liter bladder in the back, even though it lists as a 1.5. I sewed a loop for my bladder hose, but no other issues. Very breathable and the pockets are excellent. I highly recommend this product. I went for this over the 5 or 12 because of the bungee on the back. Kind of a small detail but I really like this option for quick storage or retrieval of rain jacket, etc.
