Comfortable and great for long runs

I bought this hydration vest when I first started transitioning from shorter runs to longer runs, especially on trails. Personally, I prefer having two soft flasks on my chest over a reservoir on my back that could slosh around. I was afraid that running with a vest would be uncomfortable, but I swear, I forget I have this on sometimes; it’s very comfortable and breathable. There are plenty of options for storage as well. I put my phone on my right side, my earbuds and other small items in the zipped pocket on the left, and, for the especially long runs, I carry a small medical kit, a windbreaker, a hat, and gloves in the back. I can access all of these items without even taking off the vest. I even use this for some light and fast hiking. Nothing beats Salomon ... MoreI bought this hydration vest when I first started transitioning from shorter runs to longer runs, especially on trails. Excellent overall for ultras and trailrunning.

Already had the skin 12 and wanted a smaller/lighter vest for a supported ultra. Very happy with fit and ergonomics. Does get somewhat hot on the back in the florida heat but otherwise cant complain. As a bigger guy, it eliminates the dreaded runners nipple chaffing which I never see mentioned as a pro for these vests. You can secure it tight enough where it does not move and it is very comfortable as a result.

Full disclosure I haven’t even run with this yet but wanted to post sizing info and am super excited to try it.

Quite enjoyable trail run pack. Fits like a glove - check fit guide for your chest measurements. I am 5' 10" with a 42 chest and the Large fits snug, but not too snug. Rides high enough on my back and has very good weight distribution with water sleeves full or empty. I rarely write reviews but in this case I just wanted to share with my trail running buddies out there. I run in area around Oro Valley, AZ on mostly single track somewhat technical.

Gamechanger for my trail runs!

I bought this to replace my Ultimate Direction vest that is now too big from the weight I have lost cycling and trail running. I just took this out on a 2x loops 15 mile Dog Mountain / Auspurger trail run yesterday. It took me a few minutes to dial in the fit but once I had the vest locked in it performed great. Yes, it does get hot with padded back but it was also a hot day in the 80's and steep trail as that run was nearly 6,000 feet in gain. I appreciated that extra padding at times as well. I could drink from water bottles without removing them. I like the slip pockets for Larabars, snacks, you could even stuff a lightweight windbreaker, gloves or beanie in them for easy access. The zippered pocket was super handy for my ID, extra set of wired headphones, cell phone, key fob for car. This vest has a ton of storage space and this was just the 5. I wish I had this two weeks ago when I ran the Timberline Trail around Mt Hood. I will test more extensively on Loowit Trail here soon around Mt St Helens. I did not have any neck chaffing as some other have mentioned.

Good, but not perfect

I've been an off and on runner for many years, and always pretty gear-averse. Recently I've been getting into longer mileage with my dog and realized it's necessary to carry water. Here's my long reviewI've taken this vest on a few long runs and bike rides and here are my thoughts:First, the pros:Fit- very comfortable and pretty stylish for a running vest. I feel like Lara Croft with it on. I like the closure, but wish there was a way to tuck the extra string (all product photos show it tucked when in reality it is hard to make it stay like that). I'm 5'5, 115 and got the XS. Its snug and comfortable and didn't bother me or chafe on moderate runs/rides in the heat (6.5 mile run and 20+ mile bike ride)General function: I like the storage and placement of things. Pockets are easy enough to access and fit a surprising amount of necessities. Flasks are really easy to use and not uncomfortable on my chest. Fabric feels breathable and durable.Cons:For the price, which after you add the bladder is almost $200, I think there is room for improvement.First, the vest is listed as a technical item, and it definitely is. There's a lot going on with this little garment - lots of clips and pulls, and honestly I don't know what a lot of them are supposed to do. However, it comes with no instructions, and the PDF online is pretty useless - very barebones, feels like an intern put it together. I generally think that a complicated, expensive piece of gear should come with clear instructions on how to use ALL the functions of the item and achieve a perfect fit.Second, I am disappointed in how the reservoir works. No matter what you do, the tube sticks out funny. I eventually realized (after hours of research) that I should have bought the salomon brand reservoir which has a tube routed to a different angle, but this information is not online anywhere. There's a small, rather difficult-to-find hole in the bottom to route the tube, but when you do that it makes the fabric bunch awkwardly. I also tried routing it straight out the top, and that sort of works better, but it's still awkward and the tube doesn't stay flush because it's not designed to work that way. Again, annoyed that there's not a better tutorial online for this or more details in the product description (like, hey, this is only compatible with OUR branded reservoir).Last, I think the used gel packet thing should be removable, or atleast put somewhere else. It feels flimsy and is constantly in the way.Overall I'm going to keep it, but I just hate when things are unnecessarily complicated, and this does have that feel.

Good, not great.

All in all a great minimal vest. I’m 5’8, 160lbs, 40in chest. Size medium fits perfect. I wouldn’t go bigger due to already having to cinch adjustments. Two gripes. Left bicep ended up rubbing on vest armhole after 14 miles which left a pretty tender mark on the skin (I was wearing a tank). Second, is the key or money pouch? I’m not really sure what it’s use is, but the plastic like pouch on the right side kept unfolding throughout the run. Things you just don’t want to have to focus on. It held up, allows for a bladder on the back, and dries super quickly. I might end up just cutting out the pocket.

Great fit for even petite women
1 March 2023

I'm 4'11 & 118 lbs and ordered an XS. I was worried it would be too long for my torso or bouncy, but it fits great and is adjustable enough to be very tight to quite loose. The bottles are easy to drink from and don't bounce. Only a few pockets but plenty of room for gels/chews, phone, keys or other small items to carry with you. My only concern is that the fabric around the neck is not very soft to start so it could potentially rub until broken in if you don't have a shirt underneath.

Bought this and the Salomon Active 8 and have been using both very happily. Sizing is tough to determine in store, maybe that's just me. What felt too small in store was perfect on trail moving, I am a newbie to running vests. The Adv Skin 5 is a perfect fit for long spring/summer/fall days where you can get by with small snacks and a windbreaker in the pack. I go to my Salomon 8 when I need to bring more food or winter layers. Disregard reviews that complain about the lack of breathability, the reservoir sleeve is removable and fixes this issue.

Fantastic trail running vest so far at the 100 mile mark. I purchased a size large. It fits like a snug tee-shirt. It's very easy to adjust with a the simple adjustment system Salomon has made on the front. I've used up to about 20 miles in humid conditions and I had no chafe or discomfort. I only use the two-included water flask on the front. I bring Keys, AirPods case, phone, bars, energy chews all with no issue. I've even took a small camera tripod and a rain jacket in the back pocket on a hike. There is definitely some small amount of sway particularly running downhill when I'm packed full, but I think that's to be expected. It's like they almost didn't get the threading right on the lids during the manufacturing process. One of my bottles is much easier to get the lid back on than the other. good thing is I could just buy a new bottle I guess. All in all, fantastic product if you're looking for a high quality trail running vest.
