Comfortable and great for long runs

I bought this hydration vest when I first started transitioning from shorter runs to longer runs, especially on trails. Personally, I prefer having two soft flasks on my chest over a reservoir on my back that could slosh around. I was afraid that running with a vest would be uncomfortable, but I swear, I forget I have this on sometimes; it’s very comfortable and breathable. There are plenty of options for storage as well. I put my phone on my right side, my earbuds and other small items in the zipped pocket on the left, and, for the especially long runs, I carry a small medical kit, a windbreaker, a hat, and gloves in the back. I can access all of these items without even taking off the vest. I even use this for some light and fast hiking. Nothing beats Salomon ... MoreI bought this hydration vest when I first started transitioning from shorter runs to longer runs, especially on trails. I've worn this on 3 longer runs (over 11km) now an I'm absolutely loving it.Pros: I did a lot of research of the type of vest I might want - ability to carry bottles and a bladder, lots of pockets for gels/food/keys/ phone, comfortable fit that's adjustable for the seasons, no rubbing on the neck or underarms, zipper pocket for important stuff, somewhere to attach the bladder hose, etc. I tried on a few main rival brands to compare and Salomon's fit, comfort and attention to detail won me over. I also preferred the unisex style over the women's version.Sizing: I originally ordered a L (5'8", 190lbs, DD chest), but I'm happy I sized down to the medium. I also have no issues with loosening/tightening the vest on the run to get a good fit depending on how many layers I'm wearing or how much stuff I pack in the vest. The fabric is well designed - it's very "stuffable" and expands outwards so you can fit SO much in the pockets.Cons: On a hot summer day, it does feel hot and sweaty but I would get that with any vest I am wearing I would assume. The ability to carry a water bladder outweighed the lighter, cooler fabric in the sense pro 5 (the other model I was considering).

I bought this to replace my Ultimate Direction vest that is now too big from the weight I have lost cycling and trail running. I just took this out on a 2x loops 15 mile Dog Mountain / Auspurger trail run yesterday. It took me a few minutes to dial in the fit but once I had the vest locked in it performed great. Yes, it does get hot with padded back but it was also a hot day in the 80's and steep trail as that run was nearly 6,000 feet in gain. I appreciated that extra padding at times as well. I could drink from water bottles without removing them. I like the slip pockets for Larabars, snacks, you could even stuff a lightweight windbreaker, gloves or beanie in them for easy access. I wish I had this two weeks ago when I ran the Timberline Trail around Mt Hood. I will test more extensively on Loowit Trail here soon around Mt St Helens. I did not have any neck chaffing as some other have mentioned.

Good, not great

After reading all the glowing reviews of the Adv Skin 5, I may have gotten my hopes up a little too high. I like that I can carry water, food, and have a place to stash extra gear for when I find myself overheating during a long run in the winter. I’m 5’ 11”, 170 lbs, and perfectly between sizes. I find the medium a little too small and the large a little too big. The medium chafes my neck on the left side, and I don’t like the feeling of the lowest segment of the draw cord against my upper abdomen. with the large, there’s too much bounce in the water bottles, and the fit is too sloppy overall. As for pockets, there is definitely plenty of space, but i really wish there was a dedicated phone pocket. The zipped pocket on the left is too deep and wide, so the phone ends up horizontal and bumping up against my side, which is uncomfortable. Overall, while it does the job, I’m not nearly as satisfied with the vest as I expected to be.

Great Pack, Great Warranty but not built to last
12 September 2023

I bought this pack in May for marathon training. I used it daily and it was great. It held all my stuff, didn’t bounce around, and was exactly what I needed. It did chafe my neck a lot but I think that’s just how these things work. In August I noticed that the stitching was coming undone. I take care of my equipment so I was surprised by this. Seems like a craftsmanship issue. I ended up filing a warranty claim and it was approved. They replaced my pack. Kudos to Salomon for standing by their product. Hopefully the new pack when it arrives won’t have same issue.

Great fit for a lady
17 October 2022

I have only used this one time so I can’t comment on the durability. I’d like to comment on the fit because I struggled with selecting this over the woman’s version. I’m a female and my bra size is 34 C. After reading reviews I was not sure if I should get the woman or the unisex. I opted for the unisex and here’s why. I read a review of the woman’s fit saying that there was only one space in the back for bladder and any other storage. With the unisex the bladder can be separate from the rest of your gear because there is a separate pocket for the bladder. This is very important. Now on to the fit with my ladies. With the unisex the bladder can be separate from the rest of your gear because there is a separate pocket for the bladder. This is very important. Now on to the fit with my ladies. I was worried that the water flasks in the front would be uncomfortable but I’m actually finding that because they are soft flasks, they are super comfortable when running and easy to drink from. They barely add any extra bounce (the flasks) when I run and really don’t add much noticeable weight. I believe that unless I’m doing my really long runs, I will just use the front flasks instead of the bladder because I find it more comfortable to run with the flasks in the front than the bladder in the back. It’s not that the bladder in the back is uncomfortable. It’s just that the way the weight is distributed, on the front seems to work really well for me. So, if you’re a female with some extra bounce in the front, don’t be afraid of this unisex version. It is comfortable and will conform to your body. And as for measurements and fitting, I measured around my chest at the largest spot and I was 37 inches exactly and the size small is perfect in terms of fit. I can even fit the water flasks in the front and the water bladder in the back and pack a light jacket and this is still comfortable to wear. I hope this helps someone make their decision.

In between sizes
16 July 2023

I'm 176cm, 76kg, having 103cm in the chest. Looking at the size guide I'm in between sizes M and L. I have read a lot of different opinions on different forums, people sometimes recommend to go up, some people say to go down in size. As I was trying on M and L, and could compare (still without testing it outside 'in action') which one is/should be better. L was very comfortable, M was a bit tight and I had impression that perhaps it is too small. Finally I have selected M - what helped me to make such decision? I thought if I will be running 3+ hours during one session I need something which doesn't move and rub my skin. So it needs to be tight and snug. Today I went for a 20km run to test it (I have also filled two flasks with water to see how they will behave). ... MoreI'm 176cm, 76kg, having 103cm in the chest. There were moments when I was forgetting that I'm wearing this west. The temperature outside was around 25'C and partly cloudy. My pace was around 5:25min/km (av. HR 150bpm) - I haven't experienced any inconvenience regarding overheating. All in all - if somebody will ask me - should I go up or down when I'm at the edge of sizes - I will always recommend to go down. PS - the vest is really great and has fantastic quality. I'm happy that I have moved from running belt to running vest.

Perfect for all seasons
21 August 2023

I bought this vest last winter and have been very happy with the fit, the pockets and the color. It doesn’t rub on my neck like other reviewers commented. The fabric is soft, even with just a sports bra.I found that if I use the longer straws on my soft flasks, I can tuck the mouth piece into the shoulder pocket to keep it from hitting me in the face. Those pockets are also great for hand sanitizer and chapstick.I have a third flask that I fill with electrolytes that fits in that long tube pocket in the back.I don’t have a 1.5L res that fits this vest, so I haven’t tested out the features related to that.

Unfortunately this vest is soo hot, even without the pouch for the bladder and bladder in it. In the fall I was running and I was the only person sweating ... please please please make another without it being so hot to wear.I couldn't image wearing this in the summer on a long run where I'll need the bladder. But this winter it really helps to keep me warm! I didn't know packs could be this good. I used a certain two-worded competitor brand for several years (two different models), and just assumed they were the best I could get for training and racing. One was designed specifically for racing and was a poor experience during 50/100ks due to bouncing and chafing. This pack blows those two out of the water. It's seamless, light and I experience no bouncing whatsoever with two full bottles on the front (I alternate between two Hydrapaks and the Salomon ones this came with, same slim dimensions/capacity and both work great). No need for bottle straws given how ergonomically the bottle pockets are placed. The number of pockets and their placement works well for me - routinely carry phone, small thing of bear spray, key, ... MoreI didn't know packs could be this good. Particularly like the trash pocket. It's much easier to grab things from the back, too, than it was with my previous packs. Make it even lighter and cooler by taking out the bladder insulation sleeve if you're not using a bladder. Will not hesitate to use this for 50-100mi races.
