A welcome new addition so Salomon's lineup

The Genesis fills what I considered was a big hole in Salomon's regular trail shoe lineup (ie, not the s/lab models). Bigger lugs (save for the Speed Cross, a mud shoe), beefier upper, and cushioning/stack height that's just right for being comfortable on long runs, but still somewhat responsive. So when I got them, I was so hoping they'd fit. I slid my feet into my usual size 9 for Salomon, and yes, a fit as close to perfect as I can get. With any shoe, my heels often don't get a solid lockdown, and while there's a tiny bit of play for me in the Genesis, it's much better than most. And my slightly wide mid foot has plenty of room (unlike some other Salomon models).Feeling so good, I took a chance on my first run with them, and went for a 16 mile run with 4K ...Ā MoreThe Genesis fills what I considered was a big hole in Salomon's regular trail shoe lineup (ie, not the s/lab models). I have around 300 miles on them on rough Eastern Sierra trails. The only real complaint I've had about Solomon has been there upper durability. At 300 miles, my XAs/Missions/etc. are generally pretty ragged. Not so with these Genesis. The new Matrix fabric in these shoes is bombproof. Other than dirty, mine look pristine. I'm blown away actually they look so good. There is a small price to pay for this cushion as these Genesis are my least favorite shoe in my quiver for very technical terrain. I find the La Sportiva Mutant or Jackal ll BOA to be far more suited to off trail scrambling.Speaking of BOA, the only significant improvement I would LOVE to see on the Genesis is the BOA system. I've come to absolutely rely on the ability to finely adjust tension with the BOA and if Salomon were to give us a Genesis BOA it would be rare that I would don another shoe.Sizing is very normal Solomon (true to size -- go up a half if using for long runs). Width is reasonable (I have a very average width foot) and perhaps slightly wider than the historically narrow norm for Solomon.Overall, an "A+"

Outstanding trail shoe
25 October 2024

Salomon Genesis is an outstanding shoe. I used this for a week hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc in pretty nasty weather. The outsoles are sticky with 4-5 mm lugs that connect great to the trail both downhill and uphill. Never slipped once, even on wet boulders or roots. No excessive wear on the outsole. The drop is perfect for me, since I tend to be a heel striker. While Salomon toe boxes tend to be a bit narrow for my feet, the Genesis were a bit more generous in the toe box. I sized up 1/2 size to accommodate aftermarket insoles. The midsole foam is the perfect combination of plush yet firm to,deliver great trail feel. I love the lace garage to keep your laces out of the way.As always, try these on before buying to see if they fit your foot. If not, move on. If they do fit, you won’t find a better hiking/trail running shoe for the price to performance. I prefer the Genesis over my Tekton X3 that cost nearly twice as much!

Overall Great for Mixed Terrains!
28 October 2024

I was choosing between these shoes and the Glides to start training/racing ultra trail races. I ultimately chose this shoe because I live on the East Coast and most trails I run on are rocky. I also went a half size bigger than my road shoe size because I found my feet swelling more on long trail runs than long road runs, and I had a lot of toe jamming issues. These shoes are versatile, the toe box is stiff, and although I was worried about my foot slipping around inside the shoe, I feel like these shoes provide the perfect balance of stable yet let me feet do what they need to do. The shoes handle well on technical trail, gravel, uphill, and through a variety of rocks, including big, slippery rocks. The hideaway laces are a nice feature as well.

Probably great but far too narrow in the toe box.
3 May 2024

I have been using various Salomon shoes for a number of years and they have always fit perfectly. I am a huge fan of Salomon but I think I have to start looking elsewhere because the newer shoes featuring the Matrix upper all run far too narrow. I don’t have wide feet but I have found that the toe box on the latest S/Lab Ultra 3’s, S/Lab Genesis and now this Genesis model to be far too narrow.I just seem to be collecting expensive shoes that hurt my feet after a few miles of running.Do not consider these unless you are confident that you have narrow feet.Other than my own issues with fit, I can’t fault the shoe - Salomon always deliver. But please make them just a tad wider! (From everyone with normal size feet)

[Rewarded Review] A lightweight, ground-gripping trail runner

Overall, a great hiking/trail running shoe. I’ve typically used a pair of Solomon XA Pro 3D and always loved them, so I was excited to try these out. I really enjoyed the Genesis trail runners, though I did find the soles to be quite soft. The pro of this is that they’re really comfy and eat up the trails, but I find that I actually like having a bit more of a harder sole as you can ā€œfeelā€ the ground a bit more. I felt a little less confident with the softness of the sole, and I’m curious if they would be less durable overtime (though I didn’t notice any durability problems after a few outings). Though these aren’t waterproof and are very light, they did get a bit hot while out romping around. The heel is great and locks your foot in, the fit is true to size and comfortably snug, and I’m a huge fan of Solomon’s easy lacing systems. Although the sole is well padded, the thinner area at the ball of the foot caused a little discomfort on longer excursions, but nothing extreme. The traction on this shoe was great; it was handling well in a little mud, mossy rocks, dry trails, and even in a little slush/snow. All in all, a great lightweight shoes that I’ll add into the mix but I’ll likely keep with my tried and true Solomon XA pro 3D more often just due to breathability, the harder sole, and general comfort.

I have owned many pairs of Salomon shoes over the past 10 years, and these seem like an excellent progression of prior features. These combine the tread and grip of aggressive trail shoes with the dense cushioning of a plush road running shoe. The speed lacing system has become the main feature I seek when purchasing a pair of this brand’s shoes because it allows easy adjustment based on sock thickness and time of day. I’ve had these shoes for a few weeks now and have formed a definitive opinion, I love them but I’m gonna have to modify them to keep using them. They run narrow which I knew from previous experience with Salomon shoes so I sized a half size up. The fit is fairy well but still feel narrow, so keep that in mind if you have wider feet. On the plus side, man are these some light trail runners! I’ve put about 30 trail miles on these and it still fells weird to hit the trails with something so light on my feet. They still maintain perfectly adequate toe protection; though parts of my upper foot feel vulnerable, I have had no issue and this may just be a perception thing for me. The quick lace system has a hefty pull in the middle which bounces right on the middle of the toe when fully cinched. The material of the shoe allows this to be felt pretty well. This wouldn’t be an issue if there was a means of securing the cinch. I’ve tried tucking it under the other laces and into the shoe. It’s too uncomfortable to tuck into the shoe and comes out after a few miles tucked under the laces (plus adds a tiny pressure point). There is no way to shorten the cinch so I will likely cut it off and tie a knot to make this shoe work for. There is a lot right with this shoe but I can’t look past this one issue with the cinch.

agile and fast ride

Very positive exerpience. A quick, highly agile ride. I found these to be poppy and responsive on trail. Durable matryx upper left me with no signs of wear after 200km of use, mid sole is still springy even. Quicklace and tongue stow set up is excellent and works well. I found that the shoe was less comfortable in the forefoot after longer efforts (>30km) but performed well on rocks and rooted terrain. I'm most impressed by the durability of the shoe!Fit me true to size compared to other Salomon shoes. They seem more narrow than thundercross and wider in the toe than speedcross and maybe even senserides. I'm not sure if the active chasis does anything but I have complaints about it being there.
