Salomon Speedcross 5 Wide Men UK 8 / Black/Black/Phantom

It's no secret that Salomon's trail shoes tend to run a little narrow, so even though the newest edition of their famous Speedcross trail running shoe is wider than its predecessors, wide-footed runners with trust issues can turn to the Speedcross 5 Wide Trail Running Shoe for a fit that's guaranteed to give their feet room to move around on technical trails. This special version of the Speedcross 5 is designed to accommodate runners with wider feet who may have found the standard Speedcrosses too narrow, and features the same updates as the regular version of the Speedcross 5 that make it an ideal choice for sloppy days on the trail. The outsole of this shoe has been updated with deeper and more generously spaced lugs, giving you greater traction in soft and loose conditions like mud and snow. The softer and tackier rubber is also ideal for grip in soft conditions, and the unique heel-unit design of the midsole provides greater stability for those times when you're worried about slipping out as you wind your way down muddy switchbacks. The forefoot stays plenty flexible too, so you can really dig into steep trails as your toes splay out comfortably and you kick things into high gear.

I've owned 8 pair of the speedcross range throughout the last few years, but this one might have me opting out of the brand.I bought this shoe 2 months ago and the top started making bubbles and peeling after only getting rained on once. When confronting quality controle about it they just said their shoes don't give problems like that.Terrible quality and terrible service.I won't recommend

A very comfortable and strong shoe for heavyset people.

I'm a heavyset guy and I've been wearing Speedcross 4's (regular width) almost every day for years now as I appreciate the strong heel support and shock absorption that the Speedcross shoe has. I enjoyed and still enjoy my Speedcross 4's but I must admit that the Speedcross 5 Wide makes the Speedcross shoe even more suitable for day-to-day use as it gives more room for my toes, hence a more relaxed fit for daily use. Recommended for people with wider feet but that can still fit in a regular model as the Speedcross is usually a tight-fitting shoe.

Great shoe, weird smell!!

I bought this shoe for my husband about a year ago- this was the second pair. First pair had the same issue as I am going to describe! He wore it for about a week, when we noticed the worst smell- kind of like cat pee.. we could not find the source and finally sniffed the shoes and the outside of the shoes smelled horrible!! There were no cats that could have peed on the shoes!! He was working out of state and living in airbnb?s.The first pair we bought had the same issue but we thought one of our cats possibly peed on the shoes ( but our cats don?t do that! But we blamed the cats! ) So it is the weirdest thing! We washed it and the smell lingered.. it got better but did not go away. Its like it gets worse when he is outside in the sun. Aside from that its great shoes! The fit, the construction and grip is perfect! The comfort level is fantastic! We only buy Salomon?s for running and this is the first line that we?ve had issues with. My guess is that the fabric/rubber on the shoe emits a smell when exposed to certain environmental conditions.

Great traction and very comfortable
11 September 2021

Absolutely love these shoes. Can't believe what a difference they make for hiking. The traction/grip of the sole is awesome. Very lightweight and comfortable too. Have not had any issues with laces cutting through grommets as has been reported in other reviews of Salomon shoes. Still early days but I've been wearing them consistently over the summer for hiking, walking and biking. There is a very small amount of slippage in the laces while hiking etc, but nothing significant. To be expected in my opinion.

Low quality garbage
4 February 2022

I bought these about five months ago. The soles wore out quickly. They are not a good product. They are not worth 130$. You own flip-flops that will outlast these shoes. When I spoke to management about it, indifferent empathy was the attitude. I said that I shop at Cabela's because Cabela's represents quality thought the years. I was informed that the Bass Pro shop bought out Cabela's in 2017 and the quality associated with Cabela's is gone. She said she would get me the manufacturer information ... but when I returned from putting my shoes in my vehicle, she was nowhere to be found. Not only do I not recommend these shoes, I no longer recommend Cabela's. The knowingly sell inferior products that they don't stand behind.

Not the speedcross 3
28 February 2022

I have been purchasing Salomon for years and have generally been very happy. Unfortunately, this shoe did not stand up to the name. After around 20 miles the sole has began to separate from the shoe and the tread has major wear. This is a huge let down in comparison to the speed cross 3 that withstood many miles and lots of harsh conditions.Use: I used the shoe for a handful of trail runs prior to a bigger trip in AZ. On this trip in AZ on more remote trails and in and out of water the shoe has simply broken down. This is in addition to the blisters over multiple toes due to the laces coming loose frequently.

Salomon Mens Speedcross 5 Trail Running Shoes are sooo good I now own three pairs!
17 November 2021

I bought all three pairs from SG, because their prices are great. (My Buyer's Club membership helps with free shipping and my discount.) These shoes are very comfortable and supportive, I wear one pair at work as a community hospice nurse and another when I'm shooting IDPA matches, doing yardwork or just kicking around when out and about. This third pair I just purchased, I keep in reserve just in case one of the others require replacement, the pair I've had the longest was purchased in 2019 and yes they are getting tired and worn, but are still serviceable and comfortable....so they will continue to serve my needs. I highly recommend these Salomon shoes, these are the first Salomons I've bought and obviously, I'm impressed with the brand. Salomon has me on go!
5 July 2022

My job requires my head to be on a swivel for 12 hrs straight in both a customer service and public/staff safety environment. My physical response time is critical for the safety of patients and staff. The Salomon speedcross is the best shoe for this task. Its not a big bulky hot heavy boot that prevents both mobility and flexiblity. This shoe allows traction on all surfaces hard floors, grass and pavement. Seconds matter!! Bates, Under Armour, 5.11 and other tactical boot company dont get it. This not iraq or vietnam a boot is not necessary. Its Salomon PERIOD

So far so good!
6 July 2022

I really bought these shoes on a whim - I was looking for a pair of trail-running shoes for my husband and I made my purchase based on the number of positive reviews for this model. He had run with a few other pairs of trail running shoes in the past - never really completely satisfied but never could define what he was looking for in a perfect trail-running shoe! He went on a few runs with these Salomon and he loves them so far! I'll be interested to see how they hold up with wear and tear, in heat, and rain.

Speedcross 5 Trail Running Shoe
4 November 2022

Recently purchased my 3rd pair of these shoes because the fit and traction can't be beat. I wear a half size smaller than what I would wear for other brands of running shoes (like Asics). They also last surprisingly long given how light they are. The only thing I miss from the Speedcross 4 is the stitched finish on the inside of the heel; it is now finished like most runners.
