My Sense Ride 4’s were showing their age, and needed a replacement. I have spent the last 2 winters (In icy cold Edmonton, Alberta) running on a pair of Cross Spikes with the built in studs, AMAZING shoe for winter runners by the way. So I thought I’d give the Speed Cross a try, as they are a non-spiked version of what I have been loving. This logic didn’t disappoint as they fit well, feel supportive and provide me with a good balance of cushion on the trails, as well as feeling connected to the ground. Right out of the box I took them on a 12km trail run in the river valley and it held its own on a bit of pavement to get out of the neighbourhood, some compact dirt, roots and loose rocks, and even some frozen (and on the way back home thawing) mud, as well as a bit ... MoreMy Sense Ride 4’s were showing their age, and needed a replacement. Salomon Speedcross shoes have been my go to for several years. They're comfortable, traction is unparalleled, and they just work on all sorts of terrain. Typically, out of the 5 model I would get 400-600 miles a pair with 400 being on the low end, as tread reliability starts becoming compromised around the ball of the foot at around 400 miles. However, even in mostly dry and dusty conditions, I can squeeze out another 100-200 miles out of them, especially if no pavement is involved and get that 500-600+ if I'm really trying to stretch it.The Speedcross 6 model, however, appears to have changed the rubber compound, or at least, so it would appear. The first pair, I managed to get about 400 miles out of, and that was after basically squeezing them for everything their worth. The tread was actually shredding and getting severely compromised at about 200 miles, where they wouldn't even approach those conditions until around 400 on the previous model. By 400 miles, holes in compound began forming and rocks were beginning to get embedded (which I had never experienced before), and I was slipping all over the place on anything remotely smooth. The second pair that I'm using currently appear to be displaying similar symptoms. So while I'd typically rate the Speedcross shoes based on previous models at 4-5 stars, this model I have to mark down a step or so. You're still getting that excellent Speedcross performance, but if you're in dry and dusty trails most of the time, don't expect the durability you may have seen on the previous iteration.

I took these shoes to Kauai recently and they held up great. I did a lot of hiking on various terrains, including mud and volcanic rock. In muddy terrain they did well, they didn’t slip off my foot and they were easy to clean off. On packed dirt, they were nice and grippy even while slightly damp- I half expected to start slipping on the looser areas of dirt like gravel on an incline, these shoes gripped the ground well. On the volcanic rock, they endured lots of nooks and crannies, sharp edges. For me, that was the real test because volcanic rock can be very sharp and would easily shred up a cheaper made shoe, especially the outsole and tip. I got them wet a few times crossing a number of rivers during a hike in Hanakapi’ai. The outside stayed dry, the inside did ... MoreI took these shoes to Kauai recently and they held up great. When I got home, I left them outside for the night to dry and by morning they were only slightly damp, I put them on anyway and they felt fine even with the slight dampness. No funky smell from the water exposure. The shoes were also very comfortable right out of the box, no breaking in or stretching was necessary. I would buy these again in a heartbeat! Awesome, durable shoes!

I've been wearing Speedcrosses since the OG for hiking but I started trail running last year. Bought a pair of these a week or two before my 1st trail marathon. Race was on the red rocks of Sedona, AZ so a lot of people gave me some flack for choosing such an aggressively treaded shoe. I watched countless racers slip and slide across the rock, loose dry marbles, and wet sections from recent rain. These things gripped like Harambe to a small child! Everything hurt after the race except for my feet! Wore them with toe socks and had zero foot issues whatsoever. My distances are going up, and I find that these are good just about 30 miles before the lack of cushioning plays into the equation, so I'm ordering some Thundercrosses. The Men's Salomon Speedcross 6 Shoes arrived damaged, has two noticeable character flaws on the right inner portion of the shoe at the top eyelet down approximately 1/2" down to include a hole in the leather, a grease smear embedded into the leather, and improper sewing of speed fabric at the Arch of the shoe that wrinkled/bunched up and lvisually looked like crap. The shoes were originally out of stock on the Website but a pair in the specific model, style, and color became available in only the one pair ize 11M in which I purchased. A shoe that was damaged, defective, or a factory reject / 2nd Quality item not suitable for retail intentionally passed off to a customer. A QA check would have caught the issue and prevented me from this exasperating ordeal to call and email SALOMON multiple times over with no resolution to date. The damaged shoes received were mailed back to SALOMON in UT on 9/08/23 (12 weeks ago) in which they got them via UPS, yet no correspondence received to date, refund, and intentional mishandling of this issue to date. (1/5 Rating).
I ordered these based on reviews regarding the width of the Wide which is shown on the box as EE. Trying them on they felt like a standard width and were tight. I returned them to the Bellevue REI and was told by the salesperson in shoes that they are one of the narrowest shoes they carry and that there is no standard for widths and that you can only tell if it’s wide enough by trying them on. I told him regardless of manufacturer’s standard for width a wide should still be wider than a regular width shoe regardless and asked for him to bring me a standard width in the same size. When compared, the soles of the regular and wide were the exact same length and width and the tops looked identical. He wasn’t interested in looking at them and was more interested in ... MoreI ordered these based on reviews regarding the width of the Wide which is shown on the box as EE. Either quality control at Salomon is substandard or their manufacturing needs to figure out how to build wide shoes on a wide footbed and not try to pass off a regular width shoe as a wide.
I have only good things to say about the Speedcross 6. I use them as a hiking shoe and they are the only one for me. First of all I have very narrow feet and these are the only shoes that fit like a glove. They hug my feet while simultaneously leaving a little room at the toes for descends. With other hiking shoes I always have to choose between enough room at the toes or the shoe not being to wide, with the speedcross 6 I can have both. My normal shoe size is 38 and I wear a 38 2/3 in Salomon. They run a tad bit small so I suggest sizing up one size for a little room at the toes. Also they are very comfortable, more than any other hiking shoe I've ever tried. Also they are very comfortable, more than any other hiking shoe I've ever tried. With normal hiking shoes my feet tend to hurt a lot faster because of the lack of cushioning, whereas with the Speedcross I can go on multiple-day hikes with no problems comfortwise. Also breathability is very important to me since I like hiking in warm weather, so it's awesome that they have this non waterproof version, as the majority of hiking shoes all have goretex and I prefer a summer hiking shoe without Goretex. As the cherry on top the quick lace system is just such a nice thing to have, with just one quick pull the laces hug your feet with the perfect amount of tension. They always stay in place and will never be too loose or too tight. One thing to keep in mind is that they are still trailrunners and therefore they will wear out faster than a hiking shoe/boot. They cannot be resoled and will not last you a lifetime. Therefore it's true that the lugs on the sole wear out faster compared to the sole of a hiking shoe. However that's a trade off I'll gladly make because of the cushioning, comfort and breathability I get in return. I can safely say this is the ultimate hiking shoe for me :)
After having several pairs of Solomon trail shoes over the years this is my first pair of Speedcross. Since I am a mid-foot striker, I did not try them before because of the high drop (10mm). Anyways, I barley noticed the drop the first time I ran in them. I think it is part of its unique design. I run most of the time in trails by the river avoiding as much as possible hard surfaces (tarmac/pavement/concrete) and participate in 2-3 races a year of 25K in average. These shoes have a superb grip, especially on soft/muddy terrain and the upper close knit keeps debris away. The WIDE fit is also a plus for me because I found the regular fit a little bit too narrow. As for quality, it is great. A little over 640 kilometres (400 miles) and except for a bit of mud, the shoes look like new including the 5mm lugs. No issues at all.My only comment (wish) for Salomon would be to have a L&W (low and wide) version of these shoes for mid-foot strikers. I mean, if you could reduce the heel stack to 24 or 26mm keeping the forefoot stack as is on 20mm, that would be great (4-6 mm drop) for a firm, low to the ground ride.If you are looking for a softer, more cushioned ride, Salomon has several models designed for Ultra marathons. Back to the SC6, I find them very comfortable in "short" distances, especially when the weather is cool and the terrain is soft (spring and autumn up here, and even in winter time).
After 1000+ miles of hiking and trail running, my Speedcross 5’s were finally forced into “retirement.”They were the best pair of trail shoes I’d ever owned and I wanted to replace them with another pair exactly like them. However, that version seemed to have been “retired” as well and I could not find a new pair in my size. The SC6 looked to be the best replacement option, but when you’ve trekked over 1000 miles across the Texas Hill Country, in the same amazing shoes, for the last year- there was definitely some concern that the latest “upgrade” just wasn’t going to measure up.I happy to have found that it does. Same excellent grip, same comfort and same arch support. A worthy replacement for “the best.”
I bought this shoes for my trip to Italy, knowing that I will do most of my excursion walking and hiking. Having flat feet and other joint problems, I need a solid shoes with good thread, one that would help me with my arch and stable enough so that it doesn’t move my ankle so much. I think speedcross 6 did all the job here. It was raining the entire time and still my feet were dry, even on a heavy rain. Italy is full of cobble stones and slippery steps and uneven asphalt, yet it is solid enough to place my foot on the ground every time. It has good thread and cushioned enough to keep my feet and ankle firm. Went on a 6 hrs hike along the coast of Amalfi, did over 600 steps with this shoes and it delivers its job! I love this shoes so much that I bought a pair for ... MoreI bought this shoes for my trip to Italy, knowing that I will do most of my excursion walking and hiking.
