Salomon x Ultra 4 GTX Womens Hiking Shoes - Black/Stormy Weather/Opal Blue - 9.5US

I bought the shoes on Zalando last year. Within a few months of usage, the shoe started showing some signs of wear even though I didn't use it so much. I was using it for weekend hikes near Berlin (flat land terrain with normal paths). I assumed that I was not taking care of the product well enough because my friend's shoe (Salomon X Ultra 3) was good even after a couple of years. It was only on his recommendation I bought Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX but it's already in an almost unusable state, with only very normal usage. As a student who bought these very expensive shoes, I feel disappointed and cheated!!!At first, I thought perhaps I did something wrong. However, when I come back to check the reviews, they are so terrible for this product. Many customers have been facing the same issue.One thing I liked in the shoe is its grip, it's pretty good but the material quality is not so great (1 year lifetime for a 150 euros shoe?? a reputed company such as Salomon can do better than that). Also, I'm not so sure about the GTX. I used the shoe in the drizzling rain a few times and I ended with wet socks. Also, the breathability is not great - after a 15km hike during winter, my socks are already wet from my own sweat.I really wish this shoe was as good as its predecessor. I'm with an expensive shoe in hand now but not feeling great due to its current state!!!

I purchased these shoes to use as my go to hiking shoe. Initial impression: loved them. The fit, the comfort, the style were all on point. Wore on a few shorter woods walks and they did well. I was super stoked on my purchase. But then I went to Utah and explored multiple nat'l parks & put in decent miles each day - these shoes were nothing short of a headache. The tongue does not stay in place what-so-ever. Constantly slides down & is beyond uncomfortable! I had to stop every 20 steps to pull them up & readjust. On both shoes. I was so frustrated hiking in these that I almost ended up barefoot. This was crushing - my liking to this shoe is close to minimal. What I discovered was the contagrip on the soles of these shoes is so good at it’s job, my ankles barely even come into play for stabilization or slippage. Simply put, when I plant my foot somewhere, I have absolute confidence it’s staying where I put it and holding tight until I release it. For example, I hiked The Narrows in Zion NP in these shoes, and even in a rushing river, this sole did not let me down. This feature alone has changed the way I hike forever. My safety, and thus my confidence, is through the roof in these shoes!Other features I love: It wears like a tennis shoe and is light enough and flexible enough for daily wear, which I absolutely do. It is fully waterproof, as in, I have walked miles through tall wet grass and through downpours and still had dry socks when I got home. Miraculously, though entirely waterproof, my feet do not sweat in these shoes the way they do in almost every other shoe I own. I have never seen a waterproof yet breathable shoe, but the X Ultra 4 GT somehow manages both. The toe shield is tremendous without ever making my toes feel hemmed in. I have never had a blister in these shoes. I am forever a fan of the speedlaces, and I love how fast I can put these shoes on and be ready to walk out the door.The only two things I can think of that these shoes don’t do is keep my feet warm and resist stains. At the end of the day, I bought these shoes for function, not fashion and if it’s warmth I’m after, I change socks.I’ve easily got 300 miles on this pair, over all imaginable types of terrain, and though I’m back to purchase a second pair, there’s not a single thing wrong with my originals. A little red staining from miles of red dirt in Moab, a few scuffs from rock crawling in Acadia, and a light dinge overall that speaks to the many adventures these shoes have carried me through, but are otherwise none the worse for wear.I hope Salomon never stops making this shoe.
