So far, after six months of hiking roughly 5-7 miles three times per week, the boots seem to be holding up very well. And they seem to get more comfortable as I continue to wear them. They seem to be durable. If/when they eventually wear out, I won't hesitate to buy another pair of these, or their future models.

If these are anything like the Ultra 3 Mid GTX, I would spend your money elsewhere. After only 3 years of use, the rubber sole is completely separating from the actual fabric/GTX part of the shoe. With how expensive these are, you’d expect them to last SIGNIFICANTLY longer. I had a pair of Vasque hiking boots that literally lasted me 10 years, no breaking or leaking. Smh. I also currently have Oboz and have had those for over 3 years and they’re still performing wonderfully.I contacted about getting the item replaced potentially by Salomon and they said no, because their warranty only extends out 2 years ( they probably know their shoes won’t last much longer than that so it’s really the perfect cut-off window for them lol).Just super disappointed with this ... MoreIf these are anything like the Ultra 3 Mid GTX, I would spend your money elsewhere. After a wet fortnight in Scotland where both pairs of boots I own failed miserably to keep the water out, I did a bit of research and ordered a pair of X Ultra 4 mid Gortex boots.I normally wear a size 8 shoe and as Salomon suggest sizing up I ordered a pair in 8.5.They were very quick on delivery (3 working days) and we'll packaged.They look really well made, I can't find a fault on them, not a single mark, missed stitch or glue mark so I guess they were inspected before boxing.They are incredibly light on your feet, more like running shoes than boots, and have been comfy and flexible from the start. Initial fit and wear are good in keeping with several prior Salomon boot and shoe. They fit the same which is slightly narrower than most brands which is a characteristic of the last that works well for me. My only concern is the switch to a different lacing system with a lateral third from the top cloth and plastic which hopefully will last but time will tell. Presumably this engages the active fit reinforcement but I do not know if this design will really make a difference. Above this the lace guides look flimsy (though may be stronger than they appear) and minimizing upward force when lacing is likely important. I bought these boots for an upcoming 5 day canoe trip as my Keen Koven were worn and starting to get leaky. The Solomons are a nice lightweight boot with good support, great lugs for Ontario spring mud and exceptional waterproofing. My issue is with fit. I bought the regulars online and they were swiftly returned for wides. The wides fit BUT the fold inside the arch pushes into the foot. I thought break-in would address that but it is now over 4 weeks, ~20 walks in the woods and perhaps 150km and they still push into the foot. As well, the right foot feels off. I know that has to do with my foot structure but it is so much more pronounced in these boots than my Keen Koven or my Zamberlan 966. Or any of my shoes. Living in the Pacific Northwest requires special gear to keep you dry and warm here. With some of the most rain in the nation you have do be prepared. Perhaps to make the boots more comfortable, the lug material is somewhat softer than many others' boots, and so wore down quickly. I found that the worn down lugs resulted in my slipping and sliding on gravelly downhill portions of hikes. But I had no problem sending in photos of the boots and their lug soles that showed the wear, and being approved for replacements under the two year warranty. I do not have wide feet, but these run so narrow that they crushed my feet and damaged my nail beds on my long hike. Also manufacturing quality is low as the right show had a completely different shape, ridges, and size than the left shoe causing uneven wear. The bottoms are paper thin, expect to feel every pebble under your foot.Support:There is none. The point of a mid cut is to offer stability. These boots have a convenient cutout specifically around where your ankles end up when you are hiking downhill and need stability the most. The bottom of the shoe is very flexible and unstable. Also the upper of the shoe is very flexible. This results in your foot warping the upper when planted on any incline, and sliding off the sole of the shoe regardless of how tight you tie them.Grip:I have slipped total of four times in my hiking career. Three of those times were during the 30 miles I hiked with these boots on. The will slip on dry rock, wet rock, roots, dirt, and even mud. The last eight miles of my hike I completed in my crocs because I could no longer handle the damage the boots were causing to my feet and the crocs had measurably better grip and stability.Durability:Waterproofing failed after about ten miles. At the end of the 30 miles, noticeable snags int the stitching appeared. The lugs also seemed slightly worn which is surprising since they didn't grip anything to begin with.Conclusion:I have no idea how it is possible to create a shoe that is tight enough in the forefoot to crush your toes but loose enough in the heel to shred your heels. This shoe offers the lack of support and protection of a boot while also lacking the flexibility, comfort, and freedom of a trail runner. Truly the worst of both worlds. Again, I cannot imagine a foot type or activity scenario that these would be ideal for. I'm deeply disappointed that Salomon has opted for perceived style rather than function and that their manufacturing quality has dropped so intensely. I use their products for my cross country skiing antics but will likely be swapping to a quality brand after this experience.
I bought the X Ultra Salomon boots august 2016. There are super confortable. I think I chose the perfect size for me. I complained yesterday about the eyelets that completely broke (not recently but just told them yesterday), which means I can not pass the shoelace through anything therefore I can not wear the boot. I believe the design for the eyelet is not made to last. This is so disappointing because the boots are still in great condition. Throwing them in the garbage would be so wasteful. These days everybody is talking about recycling etc.I am about to buy the ultra 4 ( I want to give them a chance) but I must be honest reading the reviews about the waterproofing and quality in general I am a little bit hesitant.
