I bought this shoe for more than its intended purpose which is supposed to be trail running. I did want a shoe I could trail run in but I also wanted something more and I've definitely abused these shoes, wearing them daily while travelling for over a month and putting lots of kms on city sidewalks as well as on trails. They've generally been great and as promised for a trail shoe. No point in repeating Salomon's descriptors, they're pretty accurate and reasonable. The few things I might add are:- I like a shoe with no seams in the heel cup. Check. And the inner material in the heel cup has proven durable, and not worn through.- The synthetic material in the uppers (NON-Goretex model) is non-absorbent but fast drying. In rain and through puddles, the uppers did not absorb any moisture, Instead my socks got wet, but on the other hand both socks and uppers all dried very quickly!- I was a bit hesitant about the thin wiry laces and tightening system, and whether lace pressure would be distributed evenly over the top of the foot and stay tight. I was pleasantly surprised. It works. The shoes have also been pretty good as a general use shoe. The downside has been that the soft grippy soles, indeed good on trails, are quite soft for pavement and have worn down very rapidly in spots, in turn affecting the comfort. But that's mainly my abuse, not misrepresentation of the shoe. The soles are definitely ok for regular dirt, but not really suited for pavement or sidewalks. It's a bit less clear how they wear when used regularly on rocky surfaces.

Love the support, especially how the lacing system keeps my foot stable both while running downhill and on rough terrane. These shoes are not the lightest, and didn't feel comfortable when I first put them on, but after a day on the trail they're the MOST COMFORTABLE shoes I have ever owned,. My feet feel great! This is my 4th pair of XA PRO 3D and as long as Solomon makes these shoes I will buy them. Also these shoes are durable. I replace them when the tread on the soles wear out. Imagine that the shoes last so long that the first thing that wears out are the soles! The last pair athletic shoes I had were that durable were leather Adidas tennis shoes I wore in the early 1980s!

This has been my go-to shoe for many years as I have always had a pair for different kind of adventures. New version feels like a working boot and the heel cup is extremely slippery and don't hold my heel still as the older models did.Only after few weeks of use, the shoe shows significant signs of wear. The laminated plastic from toe cap edge is tearing off and soles are beginning to wear out too, which is pretty weird. I have used the shoe only for about 200km.XA Pro 3D V8 is sold in Finland as a sustainable product. In my opinion, this doesn't meet the standards at all because of the lack of durability. I really appreciate the partial use of recycled materials, but if it's made with a cost of durability, it ends up not to be worth it.I changed the lacing to ... This is my 4th pair of the xa pro 3d's. The first 3 pairs were used in various hazardous terrain in an operational capacity and never let me down. Was the most comfortable, reliable shoe I had ever found. I recently purchased the new "v8" version of the shoe, and was shocked at the loss of quality. Everything about it from glue where there used to be stitching, to the joke of a sole that feels extremely flimsy. No heel lock or anything. Was slipping just walking around the house. My first thought was this looks like a payless imitation of a salomon shoe. Huge disappointment. Obviously cutting corners to maximize profits. On to the Merrell moab I go. Bring back the old version!
I buy men’s athletic shoes because I need more toe room to flex for liftoff. This is my first pair from this brand. While the heel fits great, the toe box is way too narrow, there’s a rigid “plastic” feel to the upper reinforcements that’s too inflexible for the surrounding fabric, in 2 weeks time the soles already show lack the lack of longevity, and the cushion and support of the insole are far less than I expect from a shoe in this price bracket.I do love the lacing system. So far it’s the best I’ve found to customize for and prevent stops to keep it snug.I’m impressed with the education about proper fit on this site and really wanted to love these. I just don’t and will be donating them once the new pair of my old stand by’s from another manufacturer arrives.
I really liked them and have had them a couple months. The problem is the right shoe has a gap or something in the foam. " I don't know the shoes well enough." But I have to walk threw gravel at work and one spot on my the ball of of my foot will hurt. I can feel there is no protection. I held of writing this because I wanted to like them and buy another pair before you changed designs.I am more than happy to sent them back on my dime so you can improve your manufacturing process. I think you have something good that just needs a little quality control. Send me a address so I can help. No other shoe I wear does this.
I have stupid feet that can't decide if they want to be flat or high arched. These shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have found and I work in an outdoor companies warehouse so I have tried on a lot. I have owned this model previously and I got close to two years. I then upgraded to the gortex version which was not as breathable and wore out after about a year. My hope is that these can hit the two year mark again.I can offer only a single negative: I love the quicklace system it is capable of being tight enough all day without constant adjustment and loosens immediately. After wearing my current pair for less than a month they have started creaking when I walk. If my last couple pairs are anything to go by the creaking will only get louder. However with that ... However with that being said I still bought a third pair and hopefully in two years will happily buy a fourth.
I have gone through 1 or 2 pairs of these shoes (Depending on snowpack) for over a decade. The new version is much different than prior. I am on my second pair of V8, but will not buy again until they change to V9. First, I cannot get a good set for the heel, so it slides around; never before had a blister with these shoes, but do now. The toe cap is beefier; I see what they're doing there, but it was unwanted for me (more difficult to get into toe straps on rower). The tongue...I can't put a finger on it, but it just doesn't work. Finally, it may be my imagination, but the tread is wearing out too fast.
This is my second pair of what I consider the very best hiking shoe, and perhaps the best shoe of any kind that I have owned. I don't use them for running. I put thousands of miles hiking on my old pair of Salomons, I still have them as backup. After three years of hiking nearly every day, the tread is mostly gone and water comes in from the sides. Otherwise they're still wearable in dry conditions that aren't too steep. I find the durability of this shoe remarkable, as other shoes have worn out after 3-6 months of this kind of use. Now that I'm wearing my new pair, I don't slide even on frost, and they remain dry when walking through wet grass. These Salomons have a loosely knit top which allows the release of heat & water vapor from the top of your foot. Great warm weather shoe. Conversely, water will pour in from above. Rather than purchasing a waterproof hiking shoe for wet weather, then returning them when you discover such a shoe doesn't exist (as I did with a pair of Keanes and a pair of Merrills), I recommend buying these Salomons and covering them with full-length waterproof gaiters.
Bought this for my xcountry trip with my teenager daughter 06/2023. Putting about 50 miles combination of red rock hiking and daily walk so far.1. The fit is solid.2. The quick lace system is convenience and glove fitting (the medial anchor is a bit weird but seem to be very functional)3. I specifically like the grip. Doing a lot of sand stone bouldering and this shoe grip is fantastic. stick like glue.4. the inner sole is comfortable even after 10 miles hard hike.5. I have the blue/yellow color. it seem flashy when new, but after a coat of dust, it looks rather cool ;-)Mine is not Gore-Tex version and have not get it it wet yet. so no review on that.Overall, it is a well made and comfortable shoe for light to moderate hiking.
