I always go for the XA Pro 3D. I don’t normally go for the Goretex. As others have mentioned, this and other models are longer than in previous years. I’ve always gone with the same size & had to size down a half size for all shoes this year. The Goretex liner is built into the upper tongue area better than in previous years - no more sock to slip into - or it wouldn’t be an option for me. The toe cap & sole are key for features for me. Fortunately the sides (near the ankle) are lower - some of the previous Goretex models were too high. The lacing system doesn’t seem as durable as previous models & I hope it holds up. Thats my only concern. The stiff soles (that I want) make them a bit less comfortable than some of the lighter shoes but these are great for legit hiking.

Bring back, bring back, bring back my X-Mission 3s to me.Yet Salomon shoe returned to REI. This is my third pair of these shoes and each pair has lasted an impressive number of years. I have hiked many kilometers and summited many mountains in them. This version I ordered the same size and am dismayed to find the volume (not length) is huge compared to the older models. My feet slop around inside and the cuff seems to come up really high around my ankle. I still love these as an everyday shoe, especially in wet weather but can no longer run in them or do big hikes. Super disappointed to have to find a new shoe for these activities.

I have had a few pairs of Salomon trail shoes and boots over the years and love the quick lacing system and have been lucky not to break mine ever. I wanted to replace my old x-ultra OG's with these beauties but after walking around the house for 10 minutes I found the toe area is quite flexible because the mesh area on top seems flimsy and thin. Also, I could feel a bit of pressure with each step across my big toe and realized that the new lace attachment at the big toe area on these actually pulls on the toe box and I could feel the chord across my foot or at least pulling the side of the shoe so that I felt the bend of the shoe on the top of my feet. It was really uncomfortable and imagined how uncomfortable a 7 hour hike in these would be so decided to return. ... MoreI have had a few pairs of Salomon trail shoes and boots over the years and love the quick lacing system and have been lucky not to break mine ever. It was really uncomfortable and imagined how uncomfortable a 7 hour hike in these would be so decided to return. The blue colour is gorgeous, the fit I found tts in my size for Salomon which is about an entire shoe size down from what I wear in regular shoes. I would say there is a lot of room in the toe box area if you have a wider foot but the tugging from the lace system when you walk makes it feel tight and loosening them did not help. Hoping more sizes in other models become available because I liked everything about these except that lacing placement.
I have been wearing the XA PRO for what seems like forever. The most important feature of any shoe is how it fits YOUR particular foot and the XA PRO really seems made for my feet. The shoe is deep enough to accommodate my custom orthotics and are sturdy enough to protect my feet for walking, biking or hiking. I have several pairs and wear them every day. My best guess is that I have been wearing Salomon's for 20 years and I have never had issues with quality or durability. I love the quick lace system and have never had issues with hot spots or sore spots on the tops of my feet.
Every since I bought my first pair of Salomon Missions, I have been the brand's biggest cheerleader! I told everyone I knew that Salomon was the absolute best trail shoe, and I pointed many friends, as well as students, to the brand. I ran through many versions of the Mission, followed by years of the Speedcross and eventually the Supercross. I have been searching for a new Salomon shoe that looks, feels, and performs as amazing as all of my (too many to count) previous ones, and I can not find one. I am sooo bummed!! I have spent hours online searching for previous models of my favorite shoes, hoping to find some still out there, but I have come up empty. Strangely enough, I kinda feel like I've lost an old friend, ha! Unless, of course, you BRING BACK the classics.
Let's start by saying that I am in avid Solomon customer. They are my go-to company.Over the last few years I had been a bit more disappointed with the quality and design of the shoe. I am not alone - you can read reviews like mine elsewhere online. Something has changed and not for the better. Some of the styling changes that they have made to the X ultra have been less than ideal. My last pair I returned because the heel of the shoe blew out (see pictures) within a year or so. I was reminded of the warranty program that Solomon has and decided to write in.The process was relatively simple. We had just a couple emails back and forth. Thank goodness I had purchased my shoes online so that I still did have a receipt because without that I wouldn't have had any ... MoreLet's start by saying that I am in avid Solomon customer. Thank goodness I had purchased my shoes online so that I still did have a receipt because without that I wouldn't have had any options. They do ask for a number of photos of the shoe from all different angles including the inside of the tongue where details were almost unreadable. I received a credit to purchase a new pair of Solomon's at approximately 85 to 90% of the original value of the shoe that I had purchased. The credit can only be used for a purchase made through the Solomon website.I chose the XA pro 3D. Another Gore-Tex product. I am an absolute lover of the shoelace system!! I have seen others who have written reviews that don't like this system but I have no idea why! It's fast and easy and tucks away the laces so I'm never having to stop and tie my shoelaces. The overall shoe design is lovely and makes my foot look narrower than others in the past.So we'll see how the new pair last but based on the warranty system they have in place I feel very comfortable with remaining a loyal Solomon customer.
I have owned 8-10 pairs of the Salomon XA Pro 3D GTX over many years. I love them! I am not a runner but a hiker. BUT I just purchased the new ones (black with pink and red) in Oct. 2023 and after wearing the shoe only once, the quick lace came apart on the left shoe. I submitted a warranty and was told they will send new quick laces to replace the broken one. It is known that the laces eventually fail on these usually closer to 1 year, maybe after 2 years if you are lucky. I have had the shoes for less than 30 days and would expect a new pair sent to me (or at the least, to be able to return them for a refund) due to the failure which is clearly a manufacturer defect. But I hope this does not happen to other loyal or new purchasers of this shoe. I do hope the new version performs as expected after this incident.
This is Salomons best all rounder shoe and my third wear through in 10 years and a better ROI than running shoes. I recommend this product for anyone that is on their feet throughout the day or exercising outdoors and needs a supportive, durable shoe for all weather that last for years. The wide toe makes easy work of shifting balance, stopping and starting. I have run large events and hiked several mountains with both waterproof and without and they are equally excellent. The waterproof has proven most useful walking the dog on frosty mornings. The shoes easily survived the rusty red dust of central Australia.
This is an amazing pair of shoes, and actually my FOURTH pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D trail running shoes. I actually use them for running on every day terrain (not just trail running) because the support is so good especially around the ankle. The ortholite sole has been a gamechanger for me as a long distance runner. It does take a little while to mould to the soles of your feet (I have very flat feet). I'm also a big fan of the quicklace technology. While they may not look like the "coolest" shoe on the market, they are definitely intended for professional wear and practicality rather than aesthetic design. The only disappointment that I have is in the range of colours in my size that are available at the moment. My previous XA pro 3D shoes have been in much more "fun" colours, but I really needed to replace my old pair because I was running so much that the treads had worn down.I would recommended sizing up half a size if you can if you are considering buying the Gore-tex version of this shoe.Oh - and as a bonus - these are also a great shoe for hiking medium level terrains. The myth that you need a higher coverage hiking boot completely goes out the window when considering the XA Pro 3D.
