I wanted to set up another computer station in my house so i have been looking for a monitor to make this happen. I was browsing through a store today and came across this monitor. Great price and I jumped on it...got it home unwrapped everything and set it up. Very simple to put the stand together and the monitor it very secure sitting on my desk. Got the computer set up and powered everything up and the first thing I noticed was the image....it was amazing!!!! I looked through all the setting and made a few slight adjustments but really out of the box it was perfect. Have been using this monitor for a year now and what's not to love. The single thunderbolt cable including power supply makes switching between my Mac Studio and MacBook Pro a breeze, and the inclusion of cable management in the stand is a nice touch. Super slick design and looks fantastic on the desk, picture quality is top notch as well. The joystick style interface on the back takes a bit of getting used to, and seems a strange choice to need about 3 clicks to do something simple like turn the monitor off, but the fact that is the biggest problem I have with the monitor speaks for itself. Highly recommend.

I received it yesterday and was super excited about all the real estate screen. Until I tried to watch a movie in full screen but there are black lines around the video. The black lines on the sides are 3in thick and I can't figure out how to make them full screen. Also, I am not able to control the brightness and volume from my MacBook connected via Thunderbolt 3 nor from my keyboard connected via bluetooth. I contacted Support and they told me those setting can only be controlled from the button on the back of the monitor. Is that for real Samsung?

Pros: So easy to set up. Just had to fiddle the brightness etc and I was good to go. I’m glad I picked a curved screen / monitor of this size because a flat one may have made viewing so many things on the screen more difficult. I can view multiple systems and spreadsheets with this monitor. The lightening facility is very useful as this cable can be attached from the screen to the laptop to make the USB ports work at the back of the screen (from the power of the screen it also charges the laptop I believe). Good sound. The laptop can be any height from 42cm so it can fit anywhere as mine had to fit between the desk and the shelf above. In fact I could add a webcam on top and still fit in in a space of 50cm with a little screen raiser shelf underneath to store the keyboard etc when not in use. I used the supplied hdmi cable and everything worked a treat. Just plug in and it’s good to go. On teams I need to share windows instead of share screen because the other person can see barely anything due to the screen size. I live alone and I could set this all up without help, so while the box looks enormous it’s easy to lift and set up alone even in a cramped desk space. I am delighted with this screen and glad I had the means to get it using vouchers to pay for the majority of the cost. Cons: I didn’t realise I needed the lightening cable from my laptop into the screen to make the USB ports work - I was thinking the USB ports on the screen weren’t working. I had to do a bit of Googling because the screen doesn’t come with much of a manual, I had to download it from the Samsung website and save to my iPad to review. The cost is quite high of this screen and while it worked so well, so I’m glad I bought it, I only bought this because I had so much in vouchers. If I had no vouchers I wouldn’t have spent this much on a screen for working at home or personal use. I guess the only improvement would be to have a webcam built in the screen
Excellent value for the money. If only it were as bright and with a slightly higher resolution, it'd be the absolute best monitor for any Apple silicon Mac. Considering its price, it's still one of the best options out there, especially if you're planning to use Thunderbolt. Just be mindful it DOES NOT include a printed instruction manual (not even a quick-start sheet) so, download it before unpacking it. Also, make sure to grab a photo or write down the S/N on the back of the monitor: the one in the cardboard box is not the full number!
Im a long time user and fan of Samsung display products. Ive got four of their LED TVs, including an OLED model, and all have been excellent. So when I read some of the other reviews on here that quote various niggles with this display I suspected that, this being Samsung, they would have been put right by now.Not so. This is a very disappointing product and has many flaws.I purchased it as a replacement for my 27 Thunderbolt Display. Im chiefly a MacBook Pro user but I do have a PC with a fairly high spec graphics card and wanted a single monitor that would allow me to connect both machines. Im chiefly a MacBook Pro user but I do have a PC with a fairly high spec graphics card and wanted a single monitor that would allow me to connect both machines. There is nothing wrong with my Thunderbolt Display but it has only Thunderbolt inputs and my PCs graphic card does not have a Thunderbolt output.Thunderbolt equipped displays are rare. LG has two in their inventory but, like the Apple display, neither of these have HDMI or DP inputs. LG has been advertising some newer models that do offer additional inputs for about a year but they seem slow to get to market so I plumped for the only other trick in town, this Samsung model. Mistake.Firstly, the stand. Its rubbish. There must be a design flaw because, as many others here have complained, it simply doesnt work. There is sufficient play in the up and down sliding arrangement that the panel can rock from side to side. Mine was so bad that I initially thought the panel even rotated. It was impossible to get my panel to hold in a level position. Mine sagged down to the left giving it something like a 5 degree down angle, making the left hand side of the display a good 10mm lower than the right. Its horrible to look at. A few mm you can live with but not this amount of slant. There is no adjustment that allows the grip on the panel to be tightened. Nothing you can do but look at a slanted monitor or purchase a separate bracket on which to suspend it properly. This alone is enough to warrant a return. I should not have to resort to an additional stand or support bracket when spending this much. Samsung, what are you doing People have clearly been complaining about this for a long time. Fix itSecondly, the stand. It has no height adjustment. Well, not really. You can slide the panel down with the bottom tilting out towards you, but who needs a monitor stand to do that Most people will want to raise their monitor, not lower it from the default position. Useless.Thirdly, the stand. It has integrated cable management which usually means that you can hide a few cables down the riser tube to get them out of sight. The tube on this stand has enough room for maybe one cable, if youre lucky. And thats assuming that the connectors on the cable are not bulky, since the slot that they have to pass through is about 10mm wide. Again, almost useless. Most people will just end up using tie wraps to secure their cables out of sight.Moving onto the main reason that I purchased the monitor Thunderbolt functionality. Yes, it does display a video signal when connected to a Thunderbolt port on my MacBook and it also does convey sound to the displays speakers. But thats it. Samsung havent fully implemented a Thunderbolt Display here. What they appear to have done is route Display Port video and audio over a Thunderbolt connection. To the MacBook, the monitor appears in the devices list as a DisplayPort monitor only, not a Thunderbolt Display. Those who follow the subtleties of these different protocols might ask, given that Thunderbolt does use DisplayPort, whats my problem My problem is that the monitor does not behave like a Thunderbolt Display should you cannot change brightness or adjust audio volume from your laptop. Changing volume or brightness requires that I reach around the back of the monitor and fiddle with its menu controls. For those used to the Apple world of Thunderbolt, this isnt just a minor inconvenience, its a daily pain in the proverbial.Talking of audio and speakers, the audio is not particularly good. I know that most panels dont have stellar sound, but this model is again disappointing given the price. And the picture itself Not that impressive, for a Samsung OLED display. Picture quality is of course a subjective thing, but as I said at the start I do have four other Samsung products and they really are excellent, particularly the OLED panel. So this display should at least be up there with picture quality, rightNope. I found the images were washed out and lacking good colour depth. I tried to tweak the settings to improve contrast, brightness, colour, sharpness or any of the other proprietary bits of Samsung image processing magic. I also checked the colour profile settings on my MacBook. I could not get it to look good. Im one of those people who normally uses a factory default setting on a display. I find that if you start fiddling around too much you end up with something weird looking. As a general rule, if you have to tweak things too much, other than perhaps brightness, you know there is something wrong. Its hard to find much good to say about this unit. It has appallingly bad mechanical design, only partially implemented Thunderbolt functionality, poor audio and for an OLED panel the picture quality can only be described as meh.Mind you, it does have a lovely big blue THUNDERBOLT logo on the front lower left bezel which looks lovely. RightIts already on its way back to Stationery Packs for a full refund. Stationery Packs have arranged a courier to collect. Excellent service from them, as usual.Back to my trusty Apple Thunderbolt Display. After all this hassle, I think Ive found a way to get my PC to connect to it anyway. It may require a motherboard change and the addition of an extra adapter card, but that will come to significantly less than the cost of this awful monitor.
I have only had the monitor a couple of days now, so I cant write a particularly thorough review. First impressions after a simple setup is that its a great monitor and works really well with a MacBook Pro The onoff button is in a good location but is a multifunction menu button as well so its not as straightforward to turn off as you have to press the button then select down to engage the poweroff icon to do so. Its a small thing, but the button design is clever for the multifunction so without having two buttons it makes sense. I am using rightly or wrongly a third party app to turn off my MacBook Pro as the screen is so big you dont need your macbook pro screen on as well, however the third party app when disabling the macbook pro screen leaves its desktop ... Its a small thing, but the button design is clever for the multifunction so without having two buttons it makes sense. I am using rightly or wrongly a third party app to turn off my MacBook Pro as the screen is so big you dont need your macbook pro screen on as well, however the third party app when disabling the macbook pro screen leaves its desktop background imprinted over the main monitor background which is annoying. So thats certainly not the monitors fault entirely Apples really as you shouldnt need a third party piece of software to shutdown the macbook pro screen and still be able to use the keyboard and trackpad 2. The answer sadly is I have had to order another wireless keyboard and mouse 2 so i can simply close the lid. The footstand of the monitor is huge as well and it may not therefore sit far enough away from you on a normal desk so mine is to the side and I am twisting my neck or body right now to look at it. Again this is more a setup issue but a different stand design might have avoided this. It does tilt and move up and down, so thats great and it will adjust along way either way. Overall a great monitor and worth the money. Just requires some consideration to setup at 80.8cm wide.
Im using an Apple Mac Mini.I was using 2 x 22 displays connected via a USB3 Dock Displayink driversWhen I connected this new display the display was terrible. Just 3 colors and much of the text unreadable. I really thought it was duff.So. Disconnected it and reconnected one of the old 22 displays to the HDMI on the Mac. Wierd. That was now also bad.Something had clearly gone wrong, not with the new screen, but in the Mac itself.I suspected that connecting this new display had made the Mac load new drivers and switch into some wierd unsupported mode.Anyway. To cut a long story short, by screwing up my eyes and ignoring the headache, I managed to find my way into the Macs settings and tried all different resolutions and refresh rates. Nothing helped although lower resolution did reduce the headache just a bit.But then I clicked into the Accessibility area and noticed the contrast slider was missing. Gone. Thats there for people with vision disabilities who need extra high contrast display. In my case this was now off the scale. I clicked around where the contrast slider would normally be and after a while I managed to click it and found out that it was way off the scale to the right.Managed to slide it down to normal and, hey presto perfect display.So. if you have a Mac Mini and you connect this display possible after having used multiple displays via a DisplayLink driver and this 34 display comes up really bad then, screw up your eyes, take a headache tablet and go into settings on the Mac. Into Accessibility settings and click around where the contrast slider should be till you manage to drag it into view and all the way to the left. Then sit back and enjoy. This screen really is the dogs doodahs.Oh. Also, the package does include a thunderboltusb c cable even though the product description said it doesnt.
I grabbed one of these to replace my 2-monitor setup when I switched to an M1 MacBook Pro that isn't compatible with more than 1 external monitor. The monitor has a beautiful, sleek, and elegant quality to it, and I'm happy with the build quality and how it fits nicely on my desk and saves me on some desk real estate. On top of this, though, the monitor is super easy to use; they included a QuickStart guide in the box, but it’s as simple as plugging a cable in and my computer immediately recognized it and displayed my screen onto the monitor – this is much more than I can say coming from some older monitors that are particular and take time to get setup. This is a small but super appreciated feature, being able to cut down to one cable that’s needed (they do also include an HDMI cable, but it’s not needed if you have a thunderbolt port on your computer). I will 100% recommend this monitor to fellow colleagues with M1 MacBooks.
I am very disappointed with the monitor which has started to fail in less than a week since the purchase. First the inputs DC24V, DP and HDMI does not work, second the resolution 3440 x 1440 doesn't occupy the complete screen and leaves over an inch of black vertical strip after bezel on both sides. To make the matter worse the monitor seems to have a brain of its own that it decides to switch itself off on it own at anytime, but more frequently when I am busy at work. I had decided to return the product as I am still within the 28 day free return period. However the online return process is non-existent, hence I had to call up customer care last night. I had been loyal customer to Samsung for over 17 years. I have refreshed and upgraded my computing and home appliances with Samsung many a times over these years. It's sad that I will have to now start exploring other brands.
