Must have for any computer. Can't go back to old SATA hard drives now.

It is hard to tell whether the new V-NAND will be pushing prices much lower in the short term, but it looks like it will at least be competitive with what's already out there. Samsung is well positioned to continue their dominance for another round. The 4TB 850 EVO also gives us another light push towards a future where mechanical hard drives are gone from the consumer market. This drive is huge. It fits in these new, thin laptops. It is sata based which makes it fast and compatible with just about all motherboards out there. What I like most about Samsung drives they come packaged with their "Magician" software to transfer your data, programs and even the operating system. Very nice. This alone has made me continue to use Samsung programs. Oh, this drive is warranted for 5 years - very nice.
I needed more speed to work with 4K ProRes and RAW files, so I configured an old 6-Core, 3.33GHz2010 Mac Pro with five of these drives placed internally (still waiting for a refresh to the Pro desktop line. Apple, I'm looking at you). I used the Icy DockEZConvert Pro HDD/SSD Converters - one for each drive - to place the drives into the Mac Pro chassis. I then striped the Samsung 4TB Evos together in a (software) RAID 0 configuration. Using the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test utility, the speeds consistently measure at 515MB/s write speed and 546MB/s read speed. Not sure if it was an anomaly or an error in the disk speed test utility, but I did see the read speed achieve 587MB/s at one point. I've had the drives for nearly two months now, and so far they've performed ... Samsung 850 EVO SSD lives up to its name. Its fast and offers a user friendly software for the average consumer called Samsung Magician which can further boost the overall performance of the SSD. In comparison to other SSDs in the market, the price you pay for Samsung 850 EVO is worth it when looking at performance to price. comparison. Only thing I didn't see pleasant was the fact that the Magician software is not optimized for windows 10. Don't get me wrong, it works! But I'm not able to make 100% full use of it sadly. Checked FAQs and forums which led to either saying Samsung will update this in the future, or the consumer can do some tweakings involving the BIOs here and there. Nonetheless, overall, highly recommended!
A reasonably fast SSD with high build quality, and with the Samsung Magician software that is included, the functionality, encryption, and catching of the drive is easily and fully controlled. I did multiple performance tests on the drive using freely available SSD test packages, and the Read / Write performance is very pleasing (> 500 MB/sec and around 60 to 80k IOs/sec). More than 10 times faster than my earlier mechanical hard drives. I bought one drive couple of months ago, and considering buying another one. The price is a little bit expensive, but for the speed performance I am getting, I believe its a good value for money. Hopefully the prices will come down in the coming months / years.

We have just replaced the hard disc drives on our several laptops and one desktop with solid state drives. Very easy to do! Get free software to clone your current drive onto the SSD, then remove the old drive in your computer and replace it with the cloned solid state drive. Google how to replace the drive on your specific computer and just follow the easy directions. And wow! What a difference in speed! You can use free software to measure the old speed before replacing it, then measure the new speed afterwards. Samsung is good quality and speed. Highly recommended!
I've been very happy with the ones I put in my computer and the ones I use for backups. While HDDs are far more cost effective, their weight and size were creating problems for my old carcass. Not having to lug around and find room for a bunch of backup HDDs made the cost worthwhile for me (never mind that I'll be eating mustard sandwiches--without the bread--for a long time). Not everyone will be able to justify that expense. The increased speed when moving large amounts of data was a happy bonus for me. However, Samsung has since replaced the 850 series with the 860s. I recommend them over the 850s for lower price rather than buying new 850s. There would be no benefit to replacing perfectly good 850s with 860s, though.
