The Samsung galaxy tab A feels heavy duty and it is We’ll made and Sturdy. I did drop a couple of times at about 3 feet and it does not have a case on, it held up, but I will be getting a case and a screen protector to keep it safe. The speakers are strong, powerful, and crisp to my surprise. Takes beautiful pictures even in low light. As you can see in my photos I have one photo taking the picture of the tablet with the screen with a gardenia and the second photo is a screenshot taken with the Samsung galaxy tab A of the gardenia.I really like this tablet, I've been using it to take care of emails, social media, playing games, I use it as a reader it’s easy to see, streaming movies on Netflix, watching YouTube, do my shopping, photos and so much more, easy to pop in my purse and go. The touchscreen works perfectly fast and accurate, great scrolling, Beautiful color, strong buttons, it has a very brief lag when loading a game definitely not a dealbreaker, it’s like 1sec. I Recommend The Samsung galaxy tab A, at a very affordable price and For all ages Whether you’re three years old or 81 or in between this is a great deal Especially with Christmas coming up will not break the bank and it’s a great deal, I’ll be buying the Samsung Galaxy Tab A for gifts.

Out of the box, the sound and display were of amazing quality. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A comes with a strong Li-Ion 5,100mAh battery and an expandable internal storage. You get 32GB of storage space but you can add a MicroSD card up to 512GB. That’s a lot of songs, movies and pictures.Speaking of pictures, this tablet has two cameras. A 2.0 MP front camera and an 8.0 MP rear camera and a Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording resolution. The main camera has an auto focus feature and you could add a floating shutter button so you can easily snap a picture. So far I’m pleased with the picture quality (see attached wishing well photo). The tablet comes with a charger and is equipped with an ear jack and a charging port. It also features an adaptive brightness feature that would adjust the screen brightness based on the existing lighting to relive stress on the eyes.To summarize, if you don’t like tablets with a bulky design and don’t want to compromise performance, give the Samsung Galaxy Tab A a try, you won’t regret it. Whether I’m surfing the web, taking pictures or playing a movie, this Tab delivered and without breaking the bank.

Heavyweight Contender at a Welterweight Price

The SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A SM-T290 is a tablet that definitely hits way above its weight class. As soon as I took it out of the box I fell in love with the device. Weighing in at a jaunt 345 grams, it’s lightweight and slim with fantastic ergonomics for one or two-hand operation. Build quality felt solid as is typical with Samsung devices. Initial setup was a breeze and the operating system updated to Android 10 right away. Further customization didn’t take long at all as the 2GB RAM and the 2Ghz Quad-Core processor made for quick loading and snappy switching between apps. The device comes set up with the on-screen back button on the right side. This was driving me nuts as my phone has the back button on the left side. Fortunately, the tablet includes the ability to change the order of the on-screen Navigation Buttons as well as switch to full screen gesture navigation. At 189 PPI, the 800x1280 8” TFT LCD screen was sharp, clear, and quite bright at maximum setting. The capacitive multitouch was responsive, even after adding a tempered glass screen protector. Photos taken using the main 8-megapixel rear camera looked really good! The built-in electronic image stabilization with face and smile detection made for excellent selfies and memorable photos of family and friends. For my use case, I found the 32GB (21GB available) internal memory to be adequate. However, it is comforting to know that I could easily add up to an additional 512GB via the MicroSDXC card slot. At 5100 mAh, the internal battery supplied enough power to last a full day of mixed browsing, snapping photos, and listening to music with enough juice remaining to use the tablet for turn-by-turn navigation on our way home. Sound from the dual bottom-facing speakers is clear with a decent range of highs and lows and impressive maximum volume. Audiophiles will rejoice at the included 3.5mm stereo port on top of the device. I know I was glad that I could use my favorite headphones with the device without needing a separate adapter. WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth all worked great and I did not find myself missing the lack of NFC connectivity at all. Overall, this is a wonderful device that compares favorably with the tablet offerings from a certain fruit brand at a fraction of the price.

Compared to a smart phone it's bigger, has better sound quality, and doesn't do as much. This is my first tablet so I'm still exploring what it can and can't do. My current goal is to see if it can replace my old, rather large laptop that I use to find dive boats, restaurants, etc while on scuba diving trips, plus I also use it to copy my underwater videos and download my logs from my dive computer. At first the file manager that comes with the Galaxy tablet seemed too basic so I tried a couple of others, but they turned out to be very complicated to use. Once I understood how the built-in file manager works it is very simple and does the job easily. One of the dive log programs I use is available as an app so now I just need to figure out how to synchronize the logs from two devices. This particular program (SubSurface) won't download the logs from my Mares computer but works fine for my old Aladin Pros along with the Data Mouse. I recently bought a GoPro Hero8 and had a lot of trouble finding anything that would play the videos but the Samsung Galaxy tablet does so just fine. I can connect my SJ7000 Action Camera using a "OTG" Micro USB adapter and transfer the files to the SD card. It will also connect and download the files using the FinalCam app via WiFi but then I have to go search for where it put my videos. There is also a WiFi app for the GoPro but so far I don't like it because it connects and turns on the camera when I don't expect it and you can end up with a dead camera battery. The screen size on the Samsung 8.0 is decent for watching movies and Netflix plays nicely on this tablet and the sound quality is very good. My wireless earbuds work great with it so two people can listen and watch a previously-downloaded movie while on an airliner. My old laptop doesn't have bluetooth so I had to use plug-in earphones and the battery would barely last for one movie, if that. This particular model of the Samsung tablet is called a "Kid's Edition" but I'm not sure why. It has a Kid's button but the apps appear to require a subscription. Personally, I had some difficulties learning how to use the tablet for my needs so I don't understand how kids could use it easily, but I see them with tablets on airliners and they don't seem to need any help. I suppose if you grow up with the technology.... Other than the "Samsung Kids" button I don't see anything that isn't what I'd expect from a full-featured device. I suppose an app such as Skype would work for video calls, but WhattsApp requires a phone number, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure yet how the other video call apps work, I just know it's a problem whenever I have a doctor appointment these days.I can also use a USB mouse or keyboard on the Samsung tablet by using the OTG Micro USB adapter. A keyboard is a very nice addition for writing emails etc but since the tablet has a touch screen the mouse it not really needed. I noticed that the battery on my Action Camera would charge when connected to the micro USB port of the tablet so it might be wise to make sure the tablet's battery is well-charged before connecting a camera. I don't know if it would charge in the reverse direction if the camera battery was full and the tablet battery was low, but it seems like it would.I have ordered a cover and bluetooth keyboard so I'll always have a keyboard available, plus the tablet seems fragile and is rather slippery so it should be well-protected and easy to prop up to read emails etc and watch Netflix. Of course I won't be able to connect the keyboard and the earbuds at the same time but for me that shouldn't be an issue. If you like to listen to music and write at the same time then a USB keyboard might be a consideration. There is an app available called PowerDirector which is a video editor but I have not figured out how to use it yet. It has a "stabilize" feature which the GoPro doesn't need but the SJ7000 could benefit from, if it works.Right now it looks like I'll be able to leave the old laptop home on my next trip so that will save a cosiderable amount of space and weight. Plus the flights will seem shorter if we watch movies most of the way.

I am really impressed with it overall. It has a long-lasting battery, which is a positive feature that's important to me because I tend to stay on my devices for hours. I do not like when my battery runs down quickly which interrupts whatever I'm doing. Another upgraded feature that I think is important is it's expandable memory capacity. This allows for more storage without bogging down because its overloaded. Absolutely LOVE that Samsung designed this tablet with the buttons on the screen plus there is no hardware navigation buttons! Absolutely positive upgraded feature that I commend the makers for. The screen is larger than some tablets I've owned with very clear graphics and words with brilliantly bright colors that attracted my eyes! This feature is one of my favorites because larger screens are easier for me to manage and clearly see. This tablet has amazing visual graphics that are extra crisp and clear!CONS:At times the processor does run a little slow, at times. It could be a much better tablet if the processor had been created to run faster.Another con, I've noticed that since there is no screen protector included in the original product box, the screen does easily get scratches that's visible to my eye when screen is solid black. I'd recommend a screen protector prior to usage especially by children.Overall, my pros about this Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0, Pie Tablet super exceeds my cons. I would definitely recommend this tablet for children and adult usages. It's value, to me, exceeds is responsible cost and therefore I feel this product is definitely worth it.

The 2019 Galaxy Tab 8: A good starter tablet
19 October 2020

(Please excuse the quality of the screenshots, I have cheap screen protector on the tablet, but you can still see the clarity of the display, which is even more impressive in person). The 2019 Galaxy Tab 8 Tablet is a good starter tablet for three groups of people:1. People that are new to tablets and want a form factor that is convenient and easy to carry, but offers greater display size over their cell phone. Eight inches may not sound like much if you have a 6.5 inch phone, but it truly does open up alot more use cases and is far easier on the eyes.2. People who have a larger tablet and want something smaller for reading in bed, keeping in the car, or on a side table etc, without feeling that they risk the theft of an expensive unit. People who have a larger tablet and want something smaller for reading in bed, keeping in the car, or on a side table etc, without feeling that they risk the theft of an expensive unit. At approx $129 the 2019 galaxy tab is not going to break the bank if it gets lost or stolen.3. Children that are new to tablets, need (or want) a true android experience and need something capable of handling most of the latest games and apps with ease.Beyond that, most other people would probably want to look at the stronger, faster, and/or larger offerings of Samsung and Apple for the best tablet experience.PROS:1. Great price for Samsung quality, specifically Glass front, aluminum back, plastic frame... feels really solid in the hand. Note: It (arguably) does not get much better than Samsung for Android or Apple for iPadOs (Note: Apple IOS was recently split into IOS for iphones and iPadOs for tablets as development will likely diverge to take advantage of each type of devices strengths).2. Really nice, clear and bright 8.0 inch TFT display.3. Solid recent gen quad-core proceesor (Quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A5)4. 2GB of RAM which is now definitely needed for the latest apps to run smoothly.5. Small and Light at a weight of 345 grams (12 ounces) and dimensions of 210mm x 124.4mm x 8 mm ( 8.27 x 4.90 x 0.31 in).6. Expandable storage via built-in MicroSD slot (upto 512GB MicroSD cards are supposedly supported).7. Decent 8MP camera on back and 2MP on front (but see cons regarding camera quality).8. Nice array of sensors: Bluetooth 4.2 LE (low energy) with AD2P, GPS, as well as an Accelerometer.9. Runs latest Android (as of this review date) called Android 9.0 (Pie)... and supposedly will support (at least) the next version of Android (version 10)CONS:1. Very difficult to grip with a case... mainly due to the rounded edges... this is remedied by a good case and most people go that route anyway.2. Only 32GB of internal storage... while (as mentioned) it does have a microSD slot, there are limitations as to what the microSD card can be used for (versus it’s internal storage)....part of this is by Samsung’s design , so Samsung could eventually loosen the restrictions... Example: Apps must be stored on internal storage...of which approx 12GB is already used out of the box by the Android operating system... this is primarily the biggest non-hardware related complaint since this is not an Android restriction, but rather (as far as I have read) a restriction intentionally placed on this tablet by Samsung. NOTE: Due to the massive complaints about this issue, there us a chance (albeit a very small one) that Samsung could release a firmware patch to remove this restriction.3. Speakers are quite anemic... Only two speakers at the base and even at max volume you would need to be in a fairly quite room to hear everything clearly. Headphone jack located at top mitigates this to a degree.4. Screen resolution is low even compared to most cellphones at only 800x1280 pixels. Note screen is quite bright and very easy to read, but certainly very far away from retina level resolution.5. Cameras are serviceable, but suffer from serious motion blur especially at less than ideal lighting conditions (think indoor lighting).BREAK-EVEN features (good or bad depending on your situation):1. MicroUSB connector, not USB-C : The good is most people have plenty of MicroUSB cables and accessories already, the downside in USB-C is the future, is reversible, and much, much faster.CONCLUSION: A good solid, quality, inexpensive tablet at a very affordable price from one of the most reputable manufacturers in the industry. Great starting point for people new to tablets or those needing smaller (and inexpensive) second tablet for basic reading, surfing, news, youtube streaming, movies watching, etc. HOWEVER, not a great option for people who use a lot of different apps or use demanding apps. Also, not a good choice for those who require either a high quality camera (though quite good for stills, and video chatting) and/or a tablet with powerful speakers.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 10.5 is worth the purchase for the extra screen area, the extra speakers on each end and quickness
2 March 2023

I really like the 64GB Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 10.5 because it has such a large screen and with 4GB of Ram it is pretty fast. It didn't come with a lot of what they call bloat ware that takes away all your hard drive space and slows down the tablet. It also has 4 speakers, 2 on each end which is a new feature for me and the sound is awesome, finally. The unit i purchased was used but it was like new, battery life still good on it and it came with a case made to open and prop the tablet up in either of 2 positions with something magnetic to hold it in each place. Really like that. The case is a very nice touch.

What happened to top notch 8-in Samsung tablets?
15 August 2022

i've waited years to replace my s8.4 tablet. it runs circles around this tablet that is almost 8 years newer. in fact i am writing this review on my note 8 because the newer tablet has been trying to log on to the samsung site for 20 minutes.this tablet is slow, has a tft 1280x800 display, is heavier, larger than the old s8.4.i'm trying the a7 light in hopes it will be more responsive. but the a7 has a disappointing display & is heavier, larger & thicker than my s8.4.i don't want to have to buy an ipad mini, but samsung is giving me no choice in their product selection.i can't wait long as my s8.4 battery is getting weak. please samsung make an 8-in premium tablet. i know you have the technology. i just don't know if you have the will.
