Amazing Budget Smartpphone, Best in its Segment!

I"ve had this phone since 2018, about the time when it was released. I'm pleased to say it sill works perfectly! The same 35-45 fps in low settings, in the same First Person Shooter game, even after 6 years considering it's an ultra budget smartphone! Honestly, Samsung made this the best they could. The camera, in my opinion, is the best of its segment. It takes amazing photos, especially of flowers, nature, and animals for some reason 😅. The SAMOLED Display is truly Captivating. The only downside is the storage. Although we can use a microSD Card, i think that the storage should've been about 32GB.

The design with the remote power supply etc is great, and the product looks great also. I'll be buying more to go along with my 'The Frame' TV. I should also say I love that I could integrate it into my larger Google Home setup.

The case is too slippery especially when damp so I fitted a rubber cover which helped. The extra button is a nice idea but it's annoying to turn on the torch or camera by mistake. The Motorola had a much better system of gestures to quickly turn on camera or torch, and also would stay on when you were looking at the screen. Overall it does what I want, but not outstandingly.

Finally a rugged phone!
25 December 2022

I don't own one of these and I haven't seen one in real life. But I must say that Samsung finally listened to consumer complaints and made a rugged phone and ditched the curved display. Cellphones are part of our lives now, we do everything with them, they are not some jewellery or accessory to complement your clothing. I don't know anyone who buys an expensive fancy phone and uses it without a case or a protective cover. You buy a fancy, fragile phone, and right away you buy a case and a screen protector to keep it looking new, so your brand new attractive looking phone is hidden inside an ugly black rugged case and a screen protector that keeps falling off or peeling off due to the useless curved display or you can't properly handle the phone as your fingers are ... MoreI don't own one of these and I haven't seen one in real life. I would like to try this phone when I can get my hands on it, but the camera quality is another important part of a cellphone for me. I am a photographer and I always carried a small good quality pocket camera with me, just in case. I have stopped doing that since the release of the S22 Ultra. I use it for landscapes, food photography, macro and sometimes for portraits. I'd like to see these rugged cellphones to have as good cameras as their top of the line models. XCover6 Pro is a move in the right direction, I am hoping that they will have a few models to choose from with some higher specs.

Functional but disappointed

I have been using the Active series since the 3, then they suddenly disappeared. Found out this was it's replacement. Horribly disappointing to find it was a full plastic case with simple snapped in back cover. Didn't really occur to me with a replaceable batter this would be an issue. You hear that and think yeahbright on simple battery replacement. First time I dropped it, phone was damaged, back went flying out along with the battery. Damage to the phone was done. Had to make light modifications to the outer case with a knife to carve away the damage so the rear cover would fit again. Then I see they are going back to the old active style but for military only and not available to the public. Wanted to fix my old Active 7 but need 5G.Screen is nice, and speakers are great. Good and loud in a work environment. With some moderate use and scrolling it gets a decent battery life. Case gets hot if on WiFi or hotspot.

Good As Old

I loved the headphones that came with my S8 and S9, they were pleasant to my ears and the mic quality was excellent. I record stuff on my phone from time to time, so mic quality is very important to me. When they broke, I tried 3 or 4 pairs of "OEM replacements" on eBay, and all were all fakes. I recently signed a S20+ from Fido and the "legit" USB-C headphone they sent me sucked, sound is great, but nobody can hear me. Apple wired headphone is my second choice, but it's like 35ish? I came across this item on sale (50% off) during Black Friday and immediately purchased two pairs. If they have the same sale again, I would buy 5 more pairs. But even at the current price (20), it's still worth it.The wait was short, arrived in less than a week by fedex. But even at the current price (20), it's still worth it.The wait was short, arrived in less than a week by fedex. Old ones came in a small plastic case, just enough to fit the headphones. The new ones came in a little white box with spacious layers, keeping the extra ear pieces separate. Everything was secured in place. At first glance, they looked like the old ones I've had. The akg logo is replaced by samsung, and the logo plate is thinner and has a shiny plastic finish, whereas the old design had a metallic finish. The new design goes for a matte black silicon look. The thick semi-transparent layer covering the speaker is replaced by a thin black layer. The L/R sign is barely visible, subtly carved on the inside with a small dot under L. The old design had threaded wires, which I liked at first. However, that threaded design killed my headphones, wires were tangled inside the threaded fabric. The new design has everything in matte black silicon, which feels nice. The mic uses semi-shiny plastic material. It felt like the fakes from eBay, but quiet when you press the control buttons. Now onto the actual performance. The sound quality is good, just like old ones. Not thumping, not tinny, not muffled. Not an audiophile, so I can't really give you any specs. Music sound vibrant and netflix sounded like netflix. Isolation is alright, but the ear pieces are smaller than before. I used to use the medium-sized ear piece, but now I have to use large. I also switch sides when I wear the old ones and they would fit perfectly, but the new ones would slide out. I now wear them by labelled L/R but upside down. Sound isolation is meh, I can still hear outside noises when watching youtube videos. The microphone is the best among other wired headphones in the same or less price range. If I sing or voice over, the audio is clear, close, and not muffled. My voice is not too warm and not roomy. When I speak, my volume is constant and do not sound at a distance. I don't need to stuff the microphone in my mouth just to capture my voice. When I whisper into the mic, I still sound clear like asmr.Con: Hard to find this product page. At the time, this page won't show up in the search bar, so I had to google the model number EO-IA500 to see the product page. Also, when I tried to order, I had to log out because the system would get stuck on the order page. I placed my order as a guest, and everything went smoothly.

So first off this tablet isn't really designed for the average consumer. It's meant for people in industrial settings and frontline medical professionals. At least that's my understanding.I went ahead and bought the Tab Active5 anyway because it is the only small tablet Samsung offers in Canada at the moment. With that being said the size of the tablet is perfect in my opinion. The included case is robust and feels good in the hands. Colours look a little oversaturated especially reds. Overall I enjoy watching movies and other videos, but would like Samsung to tone down the colour saturation. The tablet is fast and the option of 5g is great. Keep in mind you'll need a 5g enabled SIM card with the appropriate tablet plan to complete the setup of the tablet. From a consumer perspective I like the Tab Active5 for casual web browsing and movie consumption. I especially like the portability when leaving the house with it.My only real concern is battery life. While it isn't really bad it needs improvement. And at the moment the option to purchase a spare battery to swap doesn't seem available,Would I recommend this product to a friend? I would yes, but I'd be very clear that this tablet may not be for everyone.Ultimately I wish Samsung would offer a tablet this size but geared specifically towards average consumers. I'm going to keep mine because the only alternative is an iPad Mini 6 and I'm not interested in that.

Samsung Active 5 - Slightly less than perfect.

The device was purchased primarily for the brightness of the display, and suitability for outdoor use within the business.Overall, it is living up to expectations - with a couple of exceptions. These are:1. The stylus holder is geared for right-handed users only and is a very tight fit.2. Yesterday, I was removing the stylus from its holder (with my right hand) and the hexagonal top snapped off leaving the stylus in the holder. It had to be extracted with pliers. Now has to be carried separately. The stylus is an all-plastic affair and a hole is drilled through just beneath that hexagonal end - this leaves two thin pillars forming the top of the stylus - as I discovered, it does not take much to break these. So, I'm not paying that sort of money to see the same issue emerge. For outdoor usage, a ruggedized device for which the stylus is a key reason for purchase - the device overall is diminished in its usefulness. I would reserve my recommendation for when the stylus is also suitably ruggedised for outdoor, or for that matter general, usage.

I've been using this phone for two months now, having bought it for its durability and being one of the only current smartphones on the market at an actual compact size, and trusting Samsung to produce quality devices. Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed.Pros:- Smaller than most available phones, able to use it properly one-handed.- Genuinely rugged, it's had a lot of drops (more on that below) and hasn't so much as scratched.- Battery life is decent. Not quite as good as claimed, but being able to get two days out of it without charging is a big step up from my previous phone.- Two SIM slots and a MicroSD slot - it seems a lot of 'dual sim' phones you have to choose between a 2nd SIM or an SD card.- Replaceable battery!Cons:- The speaker is ... MoreI've been using this phone for two months now, having bought it for its durability and being one of the only current smartphones on the market at an actual compact size, and trusting Samsung to produce quality devices. Tinny, crackly, muffled. Genuinely the worst speaker I've ever had on a phone. During a call I have to have the volume far louder than I would normally need just to be able to decipher what is being said.- Network and WiFi signal strengths are shockingly bad. I've directly compared with my previous phone, my partner's phone and a friend's phone, all on the same network, all in the same location, and the xCover 5 has poorer signal and slower connections than the others.- The xcover side button is completely pointless as it is constantly being pressed accidentally either while trying to hold the phone, or while it's in my pocket. The location of it is the worst possible place for accidental presses, and the sensitivity far too high. By default, this activates the torch, so after the first couple of days I deactivated the side button functions entirely.- The grip of the phone is ridiculously slippery - it's a good job it's a rugged phone, because otherwise it would be broken with the amount of times it has slipped out of my hand. Again, not helped by the placement of the side button.- The camera is bad. I'm not convinced that it is true 16MP as every picture, when zoomed in, looks like it has been scaled up. I had an old phone with a 4MP camera that took crisper photographs.- The keyboard is poor.- Struggles with slow-down on occasion, something that my previous phone (a 6 year old Honor 9) never had a problem with.- Doesn't have an IR transmitter, so can't use this as a multipurpose remote as I used to with my previous phone.

I purchased the 5G version of the Active 5 tablet. Did I need it? No. But I wanted it and could afford it. I actually purchased the 5G version because a Samsung support rep stated that I could 'number share' my Samsung phone with the tablet. (Yes. I know that I could use my phone as a Mobile Hot Spot.) I currently 'number share' my Samsung phone with my Samsung Watch 6. Yet when I went to number share my phone's number with my Active 5 tablet, the Verizon rep said that he couldn't do it. I specifically pinned down the rep to say ask if he 'COULDN'T' do it, or he 'WOULDN'T' do it. Apparently, the capability is there since the tablet has an eSIM (just like my Watch 6), but either the Verizon rep didn't know its capability (because he kept saying that I couldn't make ... MoreI purchased the 5G version of the Active 5 tablet. Apparently, the capability is there since the tablet has an eSIM (just like my Watch 6), but either the Verizon rep didn't know its capability (because he kept saying that I couldn't make phone calls with the tablet like a phone (which I don't dispute)), or he was out of his element and brushed me off to get me out the door. Technically, I'm sure the Samsung rep is correct, i.e., that my phone is capable of number sharing with my tablet. But who knows if any vendor will actually support that capability. So would I buy another 5 G version of the tablet? No. A WiFi version is good enough at this point. Do I like the tablet? Yes. I bought it so I could read on a smaller form factor than my larger tablet. I wanted a smaller tablet that still has the processing power (or near processing power) of a larger tablet in the event that I wanted to cruise the Internet. I had recently purchased a Samsung A7 for ease of reading; however, it is very slow when rendering web sites. It doesn't have enough processing power to please me. At this time, I will continue to use my larger tablet for watching videos on planes, but because it's unwieldy for me when I read books, the smaller tablet suits my needs. Additionally, I wanted something more rugged since I have a tendency to be a little tough on my electronics. The S-pen works fine. As time permits, I will learn how to use all the features of this tablet, but for now, I solely use it for reading and looking things up on the Internet while I'm reading e-books. If you don't mind a slower processor for Internet searches, but want a smaller form factor, I would recommend you pass on the Active 5 because it's rather pricey. But if you want a smaller form factor, and you want quicker performance, and you don't mind shelling out the money, I highly recommend the Active 5.
