Then a little bit later realized that slight off to the left of the center of the screen I was getting major artifacting which again it didn’t bother me enough to wait months for a return on an RMA and for the price is just disappointing. Then recently I’ve had a problem where I will be using the monitor and the whole screen will start to fade to a really dark green then after a few seconds go an off black. I have to restart the monitor every time it happens to fix the problem and after dealing with all the previous problems this was it for me. I don’t want to have to wait the 3 or more months I’ve heard of people waiting for a single monitor to ship. I just want the money I paid for this monitor back as the problems I’ve run into more than just slight problems with visuals. I’ve heard great things about this monitor and really wanted it to be as good as I’ve heard but this is just not what I was expecting from a Samsung product…

This monitor is superb for gaming and watching media. The OLED panel is the best for black levels and contrast and the processor in the monitor does a great job of enhancing the picture. The massive 49 inch screen, with 5120 x 1440 resolution, has a slight curve to it. This helps when looking side to side on the screen and helps you feel immersed in the content you are watching. Gaming latency is practically non existent at .03 MS, and then 240 hz refresh rate will keep everything smooth. The monitor is slimmer than I expected, making it feel like it take up less space. The included stand is height and tilt adjustable - but does not get as high as I would like so I’m using it on a monitor stand. The included stand is height and tilt adjustable - but does not get as high as I would like so I’m using it on a monitor stand. Also, because it is lighter than you would expect it should work well on a high quality monitor arm.The monitor runs a Samsung operating system, so you have essentially a smart TV and gaming monitor in one. You can load content from all of the usual streaming apps, and mirror your device screen (it even support AirPlay, allowing you to mirror your Mac Laptop or play music). You can also use your favorite game steaming service right on the monitor. It can display two inputs side by side (2560x1400 each) and remember which layout you had. This allows you to easily select it again from the input menu. There are inputs for micro HDMI, full sized HDMI and DisplayPort 1.4, The HDMI port support 2.1 for full bandwidth for 240 hz. It also can act as a usb hub, with 3 USB inputs. There is no thunderbolt or USB 4 and I would expect any premium monitor to include those. For gaming, playing the Witcher 3 at full resolution looks unreal. Racing games are also so immersive because of the super wide screen and free sync and the fast refresh rate keep everything so smooth. The game mode makes a one touch setting for gaming (which you can adjust if needed) and the game bar is a nice touch to see how things are running. The screen is glossy and I would prefer a matte option, with the great black levels also comes great reflections which can be distracting. While the OS is good, there are too many options. I appreciate all of the smart features, but starting up the monitor takes a bit longer than I would like and there are so many options and I feel like there shouldn’t be a high learning curve for a monitor. That being said, the included remote does help with voice input and making it easy to navigate around. Also, do not get this monitor strictly for productivity, it shines with watching content and especially gaming. Using it with Windows for office work is a mixed experience. The screen size is great to have many windows open and to easily see everything all at once, but the OLED sub pixel layout makes things a bit fuzzy to me - this might not be as noticeable for some people. Using with a MacBook Pro M1 was not feasible. HDMI does not recognize the full resolution (likely a limitation of MacOS) and using a DisplayPort to USB Type C connection eventually allowed the full resolution (when not in game mode I had to install a software package to allow setting the full resolution). However, the text on the MacBook never looked clear at all and edges of windows were visibly pixelated.Bottom line, this is the best gaming monitor I’ve even seen. Use as a smaller OLED tv is also great, but I would look elsewhere if you also need to use the monitor for productivity.

Inside the box there is the monitor, a stand, a wall adaptor, power cord, DisplayPort cable, a USB-A to USB-C dongle, micro-HDMI to HDMI cable, documentation and a remote. Setup is not too hard but oddly enough the quick start guide does not tell you how the stand connects to the monitor. Here is what to do: There is a top lip that needs to slide in first. When the bottom lip touches press the button to retract the tabs which lock it in place. Be careful when handling it as this monitor is very large and bulky for one person and you do not want to hold it in a way that can damage the screen. Hold it from the bottom of the screen only.I initially tested using Display Port on my PC. I was expecting it to boost straight to the PC, but it actually went to a setup screen similar to a Smart TV or Gaming console. You will go through a process of login to Samsung Accounts, setting up what services you want to use such as Amazon Video and Disney+, Wi-Fi, firmware updates and so on. It takes a few minutes but is overall not too hard as it offers QR codes and website logins you can do on your phone to speed up the process. Once I had it up and running, I jumped into the built-in features.Smart TV features:All your major services are built in such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Video, Apple TV, YouTube and more. There is a workspace section which offers Google Meet and Microsoft 365. For this you might want to hook up a keyboard directly if you plan on using it stand alone. There is also a Gaming hub which I thought was very cool which supports Xbox, Luna, GeForce Now, Twitch and a few others. I tried out Xbox which worked with minimal latency but often provided blurry resolutions on a fast 1gbps internet connection. As for GeForce Now, it works at a very smooth frame rate, but the resolution was limited to 1900x1200 at 60hz in the games I tried. The streaming options are convenient but do not utilize the full capabilities of the monitor.I was very impressed by the ability to utilize split screen. It has limitations such as it only works with some functions (PC, internet browser, Microsoft 365, Samsung TV and webcams) but it is useful at times. It is somewhat clunky to switch between inputs. As an OLED monitor, colors are perfect, and HDR-10 is supported for gaming. Samsung DEX is supported wirelessly on Samsung phones.Gaming:I was surprised that the impact to games at this resolution was somewhat minimal on a RTX 3070 paired with a i7 13700KF. Destiny 2 at full settings ran around 100-130fps. Forza Horizon 5 at max was around 60-70fps. The newfound immersion is amazing, especially in the first person. Forza Horizon provided some mind-blowing visuals inside the car, and it was even sometimes a bit dizzying in a good way. The only downside I found was that the screen is so large that at times, it can be a little disorienting in first person shooters. Since the perspective is more of a wrap-around style, items at the ends of the screen will be somewhat warped to sit the aspect ratio. As a result, movement is somewhat different at extremes of the monitor as opposed to the center. Samsung adds an ability to overlay its own reticle if needed to allow for some additional orientation. The issue goes away with practice though. Diablo 4 was a great game for large screens as you can leave menus open and still get full situational awareness as it makes great use of real estate. As playing at full resolution will take up more processing power, it is hard to fully utilize the 240hz support unless you lower the resolution.Productivity:The amount of screen space is perfect for my use. I tend to have Lightroom, a browser, Word, a calculator, email and explorer open at any given time. As Windows 11 allows for some great placement of apps, you can make amazing use of the space provided. Colors are spot on so far as I can tell, and I do not mind using this for photo editing. The only issue I came across is when connected to a PC via DisplayPort, the font has scaling issues. It appears best at 125% as when it is set to 100% the font feels over sharpened. It is a shame since 100% is the best use of the screen size but 125% looks best.Office 365 which is built into the TV I could not get to work since when you login to Microsoft, it stated the built in browser is out of date. There is no way to update it or use Chrome / Firefox so it will likely require a future monitor update to fix.

Great monitor with one fatal flaw!
12 December 2022

Almost perfect in every way except for one MAJOR flaw: It STILL suffers from the "screen door" effect when using the 240Hz mode. I thought maybe seven or so months after release Samsung would have solved this problem, so I ordered one during Samsung's Black Friday sale. It was delivered and hooked up to my PC immediately using the display port cable they ship with the monitor. By default it's set to 120Hz mode and you need to go into the monitor menu and change it to 240Hz mode. As soon as I did this I immediately noticed a difference in the monitor's display. It's like looking at the monitor screen through a screen door, with finely thin noticeable lines all throughout the screen. If you disable 240Hz mode and re-enable 120Hz mode the screen door issue ... MoreAlmost perfect in every way except for one MAJOR flaw: It STILL suffers from the "screen door" effect when using the 240Hz mode. If you disable 240Hz mode and re-enable 120Hz mode the screen door issue disappears.I should note that my experience with Samsung chat support is very subpar as well. When explaining the issue to them they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about, as if this issue isn't already well known for this monitor. Needless to say this lead to wasting a great deal of time performing useless actions like, "connect the monitor to another device to see if the issue still persists", or "try factory resetting the monitor". Long story short, eventually it led to them saying they would escalate the issue and someone would call me. Well no one ever called me, but I did receive an e-mail saying I should create a repair ticket. I attempted to do so, but the automated system wanted to charge me $230 to send this off for repair. So that lead to another chat support session which eventually lead to chat support creating the repair ticket themselves. They provided a QR code and told me to take the monitor to UPS and have them package it for shipping for repair. So now I'm waiting for a monitor that I just purchased to get repaired and be sent back to me. By the way they don't provide an ETA for repair time and shipping the monitor back.I would like to say it is not all doom in gloom in regard to the monitor though. When I used it in 120Hz mode it was fantastic! The amazingly bright HDR2000 display gets so bright sometimes that I have to squint to not go blind! On the flip side, the black levels are on par with any OLED display I have ever seen, and I am not exaggerating that statement at all! The curved panel took a bit to get used to, but once that happened I actually miss it now that it's gone out for repair. Sitting at just the right distance with the curved panel almost gives it a surround vision vibe. All in all I really do love this monitor and I can't wait to get it back repaired and ready to go!

Great when it works

I purchased my G9 online Q3 of 2021. The issues I have had with this monitor have only snowballed. Nothing significant, but enough to be unacceptable given the premium price tatg. The absolutely horrible customer support makes it impossible to not only recommend the G9, but Samsung as a whole. Here is a quick run down of the problems I’ve encountered: Stuck pixels, loud cracking noise coming from the panel, horrible bleedthrough, screen flickering, and the control stick breaking. The crux of my issue is with the monitor is the lack of support. When I purchased the monitor, I was under the impression that it was a 3-year repair warranty with a 1-year replacement warranty. Well... in what can only be described as the mother of red flags, shortly before I purchased this monitor, the repair warranty was shortened from 3 years to 1 year. When I noticed this, I tried to schedule a repair tech to look at the monitor. Well..the schedule repair interface on the website doesn't work. My next step was to try and initiate an online chat. I learned here that the G9 is not offered any support from their online chat, which is truly mind boggling. At least they were able to give me a link to schedule a repair. Put all my information, and I learn that Samsung does not service the highly populated north east city I live in and recommend that I call Samsung for a solution. I call their number and nobody seems to know anything or is able to offer any support other than “I understand your frustration.”This is a flagship product, Samsung and you are treating the consumers like suckers. Do better.

OK, but missing DDC
15 December 2022

I got lucky and my g9 isn't showing any dead pixels, bad bleeding or excessive scanline/rendering issues. It is affected by some scanlines and image jumping around when looking at the problematic images that are linked in various reddit forum posts describing the issue. The thing is, when I'm not trying to actively make the problem appear, it rarely pops up for things that I'm doing. So, I'm living with it. It certainly would be great if Samsung would fix this class of issues. The main functional gripe I have is the lack of DDC over DP support for this monitor. Samsung support knows that this feature is missing and doesn't work. There's older, crappier monitors that support the DDC protocol over DP just fine, so this is pretty bad. For such a large monitor that will have it's single, tiny nub of a control far away from reach easily, it's super annoying to make adjustments and switch input sources. DDC enables software to control these things. Please open source some parts of the firmware so the open source community can contribute DDC support if you guys aren't going to add it in anytime soon. It's not looking great now that the neo g9 is out, and it also doesn't support DDC over DP.

OLED gaming powerhouse

I have had various gaming monitors, ultra wide monitors, and even a combo of the two (an ultra wide gaming monitor). Gaming support for ultrawide screens has improved dramatically, but you will still want to have the Flawless Widescreen software handy just in case the game you want to play is too old/doesn’t support widescreen monitors.I have had TN, VA, IPS screens and they all have their pros and cons. However, none of them have the color reproduction that OLED has. As an immersive gameplay gamer you might say that all you need is a Widescreen for an immersive RPG, racing, or simulator experience. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC delivers that. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC delivers that. As a first person shooter gamer all you want is a high refresh rate and some say you need to be able to see the entire screen without having to crane your neck left and right. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC delivers a 240Hz refresh rate and you can constrain your game play to a smaller portion of the massive 49” screen 1800 curved screen, or you can play Overwatch 2 or Warzone in an immersive 49” screen, the choice is yours. The 5120X1440 resolution might be difficult to get high frames per second on some FPS games, but you can always upgrade your graphics cards later, and I find I keep my gaming monitors longer than I keep my graphics cards. There are some quirks that come with an ultrawide that has a 32:9 aspect ratio but my comment would be to use something like Flawless Widescreen to resolve that issue. While this may seem like a compromise, it is solely lack of ultrawide support from the game developers. Also, The Samsung Odyssey comes with Samsung’s variety of Tizen which means you get a remote control with the 49” screen. So if you have this set up in a small space, it can easily double as your television in your room. As I mentioned earlier, nothing is going to beat OLED in terms of color reproduction so if you are looking for something to game on, look at large spreadsheets (productivity/work), and to watch netflix, hulu, Disney + etc then this is a no brainer. The best thing about the monitor is the fact that there are no real gaming compromises, the only issue I have is the speakers aren’t the best. However, I use external bookshelf speakers or headphones as I always have with every high end gaming monitor I have had, because you’re buying the monitor for the visuals, not the sound. There is no other ultrawide monitor on the market that can compete with everything Samsung has thrown into this new iteration of the Odyssey gaming monitor. If you are able to pick one up you will not regret it.

Optimal Excellence_Great Purchase_Highly Recommend

I made this purchase for the purpose of having one monitor with dual functionality for work and personal use instead of cluttering my workspace with multiple monitors. I love the versatility of being able to view multiple computers at once. The picture is awesome depending on the ratio settings. I had to play around with the settings a bit to get the resolution I like - but it is doable. I love the backlight accent that serves as a nightlight and creates a mellow ambiance in my workspace in the evening. The main reason I purchased this particular monitor was due to the split screen capability that allows me to run multiple computers. I do wish it had more than one HDMI port capability, but I was able to work with my docking stations and an adapter to overcome that ... MoreI made this purchase for the purpose of having one monitor with dual functionality for work and personal use instead of cluttering my workspace with multiple monitors. The main reason I purchased this particular monitor was due to the split screen capability that allows me to run multiple computers. I do wish it had more than one HDMI port capability, but I was able to work with my docking stations and an adapter to overcome that obstacle. No issues with too much heat coming from the monitor with long usage during the day and throughout the evening. Would definitely recommend for a person looking to enhance their space and declutter. I was able to almost match the length of my desk so it looks really nice. I also purchased a mount to raise it off my desktop which allows for additional space and provides a sleek look. I am very happy with my purchase and I am learning more features as I continue to work with it. I cannot provide much feedback from a gaming perspective since I did not purchase it for that purpose, nor am I an avid gamer. The graphics for the few PC games I do play are wonderful; very crisp and detailed; no lag.

Very versatile monitor
3 August 2022

I use an NZXT PC with my monitor and I use the monitor for everything from gaming to streaming movies/shows, office work, surfing the internet, music production, and watching YouTube videos. The 49" is great for multitasking as it allows for multiple windows to be open at once without having to shrink the windows to an unreasonable size. The performance has also been great with zero issues, even while gaming. I usually use half the monitor for gaming because most games won't fully support the wide screen, but the games that do look beautiful and crisp. I usually leave the monitor on and let it go to sleep when the pc goes to sleep and have not really seen any increases in energy consumption on my electric bill. The main feature that I like most is being able to use ... MoreI use an NZXT PC with my monitor and I use the monitor for everything from gaming to streaming movies/shows, office work, surfing the internet, music production, and watching YouTube videos. The 49" is great for multitasking as it allows for multiple windows to be open at once without having to shrink the windows to an unreasonable size. The performance has also been great with zero issues, even while gaming. I used to have a macbook pro and a ps4 connected to the monitor to game while having market charts up to monitor. Performance was great. I also use this feature to connect my work laptop so I can use my personal pc at the same time.A few minor annoyances are popping sounds and sometimes excessive heat dissipation, but it's really no different than a TV so it's not a big bother. Two bugs that I've experienced are the monitor sometimes doesn't read one of the sources when using two at the same time and sometimes the monitor would not wake up when the pc or gaming system turns on/wakes up, but this one has been fixed. Overall a great product though, would buy again.
