Don't let my 4-star rating fool you, this is an incredible lens that produces sharp images. I purchased this lens because I've been intrigued by the 135mm focal length for awhile and it has certainly not disappointed me. The only reason I rated at 4-stars is for fast moments I wish the auto-focus was just slightly faster than what it is. Hoping a future firmware update may help. I highly recommend this lens to anyone getting into prime lenses or who usually use wide lenses and are interested in viewing things from a new/telephoto perspective.

I've used all of the available 135 1.8 lens for the e mount. This lens by far exceeds the expectations I had for it. It is easily sharper and renders a more beautiful image than the sigma 135 1.8 and every bit as sharp ( and in some occasions sharper ) than the Sony 136 1.8. All of this for a more affordable price. Samyang have hit a home run here!!!

These are first edition lenses and have version 1.0 firmware. I had to purchase an additional component to install new firmware adding to the cost. v 1.0 did not provide the proper signal between the camera and lens and created a battery drain while the camera was off. New firmware solved the issue and all is good.

This thing is a beast at portrait photography. I've been looking to add a fast tele prime to my kit and decided to go with the Samyang version. It's IQ, rendering, & bokeh are beautiful. As far as build quality, the weather sealing on the mount can be a tad better, but it's not a show stopper. Updating on the Samyang dock can be sketchy if it disconnects half way through a firmware update. Don't worry if it gets bricked temporarily, just keep loading the firmware even if your lens shows not connected. It took me 3 times and I had my lens back. Firmware version 4 is an improvement so it's worth the upgrade. I'm using this lens on an A7IV & A7RV. I absolutely love the Sony FE ecosystem and Sony's openness for 3rd party options!
I love the 135mm focal length and this is the best I've used all things considered (size, weight, image quality and price).Just as sharp as the GM though I personally very slightly prefer the bokeh and rendering of the GM, but a decent amount lighter and much much cheaper. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a 135mm and does not need blazing fast focus (e.g., sports). Focus is fast enough to keep up with my fastest needs (kids, pets).
Mainly using this Samyang 135mm 1.8 for full body portrait photography. So far, I am really impressed with the IQ. This is my first Samyang lens and it's build is decent compared to my Sigma, Tamron, and Sony lenses. Got it on sale here on B&H. I received the firmware version 2 which fixed the battery drain issue. The newest is version 4, but I do not own the dock yet to update. The only lens in the same sharpness class close to the focal range is my stellar Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN. I think this 135mm lens will quickly become one of my favorites, time will tell.
This lens is gorgeous. I won't delve into a technical review, there are already enough YouTube videos on that subject. All I can say is WOW. As my money tree requires careful pruning, I had to decide between this lens and a 35mm\50mm combo, which together, cost about the same. I know I made the right decision to go with this lens. This is probably the best bang for the buck Samyang lens out there. It may be the best lens they have ever made to date, other than their Cine AF lens series, which this lens' focal length will compliment perfectly.
After seeing some comparisons to the Sony 135 GM, I decided to give it a try. Out of the box, i was blown away with the images that were coming out of my A7RV. Super sharp at 1.8 which is what I was looking for. I'm very pleased with the value and quality of this lens. Definitely will recommend to anyone looking for that perfect portrait lens.
I own the predecessor of this lens (the Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f/2.0 Manual Focus). It is one of my favorite lenses and a classic in astrophotography circles. So I had to ask myself whether I should shell out twice as much for its successor, the Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f/1.8 Auto Focus. After reading various reviews I took the plunge. Checking it out, I was glad to find several improvements which justified the investment:1) The new lens is much lighter, and it has autofocus. That allowed me to quickly grab it for shooting scenes in my backyard when the lighting happened to be perfect. It was also easy to take it along on my walks. 2) Color fringing has become undetectable, thanks to 2 additional low dispersion elements. 3) Likewise, vignetting has been reduced ... MoreI own the predecessor of this lens (the Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f/2.0 Manual Focus). For the night sky I found a reduction of the falloff from 36% at f/2.0 to 20% at f/1.8 in Capture One (using raw files on full frame with the setting Generic). This lens just became available, and it still has some minor quirks. As reported on the web, it sometimes discharges the battery over time when simply turning the camera off after use. I noticed the effect on both the A7III and the a6300. This problem appears to have been solved by firmware version 2. Since I did not want to buy the lens station required for the upgrade, I used a fix that worked for a similar problem with a lens adapter: After turning the camera off, remove the lens and put it back on. (It is actually sufficient to rotate the lens outward until it stops, and then back inward.)Another concern was the stress on the tripod mount of my small a6300 APS-C camera. That was resolved by a tripod adapter for the similar-sized Sony 135mm f/1.8 FE lens (iShoot Model S135FE, with electrical tape added for cushioning). Notice that this combination produces the field of view and brightness of a full frame camera with a monster 200mm f/1.8 lens.
Bokeh is clean! You don't need to spend tons of money on the GMs. Focusing speed is very good! I am actually considering to get the newer versions of these lenses instead of the Sony's. Also, this lens was at discount!!! Outstanding!
