Good lens for landscape and interior shots. Good value for the price.

Buying FF lenses means expending a lot of money where i live. But for the price of this lens, i've got an amazing addition to my kit. Sharp, fast and small (taking into account it's an ultra wide lens). i've even been to shot milky way from a heavy light polluted city like the one where i live. 10/10 would buy it again.

After only a month of use, the screws on the lens that held together the mount piece and the rest of the lens somehow unscrewed, leaving me with 2 piece and a useless lens. This was also after I had initially bought the AF version of this lens but the F-stop controls would not connect to my camera, so I was just left with a wide open, unchangeable aperture. Beyond that, this lens has some pretty bad aberration issues. Sometimes I was able to use this to my advantage stylistically, but the rest of the time it just made the image worse. Samyang is also just Rokinon but rebranded, and Rokinon is not known for making sturdy products.

Pros: Great Value lens to us while saving up for Sigma 14-24mm. Pleasantly surprised by the optical performance.Cons: Don't expect too much from an inexpensive lens.
I had one of Mk1 versions of this lens and sold it some time ago - a decision I regretted almost immediately. Whilst it's not a lens I'll use every day, when I do, it offers really interesting perspectives. I love the ultra wide angle field of view for landscapes and skyscapes. It's also really useful for building interiors although you have to be careful with the shooting angle to avoid weird looking converging lines. I was torn between this manual version and the AF version. The AF version is £200 more and for a lens that is quite specialist and will not be used as much as others in my bag, going with this version was easier to justify. To be honest, the immense depth of field you get with this thing at F5.6 or smaller means that tiny focusing issues are masked. ... MoreI had one of Mk1 versions of this lens and sold it some time ago - a decision I regretted almost immediately. To be honest, the immense depth of field you get with this thing at F5.6 or smaller means that tiny focusing issues are masked. This is just as well as it is quite hard to focus through the optical viewfinder on subjects that are more than a metre away. Live view is probably the best way to use this lens. Having said that if you shoot at F5.6 or smaller and set the focus scale to 1.5 metres, everything from 0.7m to infinity will be in focus! Everything on this lens is manual so you can only use the lens in either fully manual mode or aperture priority mode. Before taking the shot you need to put the aperture wide open at F2.8 to focus using the very nicely weighted and smooth manual focusing ring. Then stop down to the desired aperture to take the photo. It really is old school but it makes you work more slowly and thoughtfully as you can't just rely on the hardware to sort everything out for you. It's very sharp in the centre and the edges are good at F5.6-8. I love it. Recommended.
I was going to buy a ultra-wide zoom, but since my main zoom lens goes down to 24, I'll only need the ultrawide focal length. Once I'm to that point, I might as well just go wide and crop tighter in post; hard to get out of slide photo habits. 14mm for full frame is plenty wide and many flashes have a spreader panel that allows the flash to work well with 14mm focal lengths. So I spent a lot less for this lens and put it towards a zoom at the other end of the spectrum. It's fully manual, so I have to remember to focus the lens (work, work, work).
The lens is quite sharp, exelent build quality. The only problem is the focus scale markings are not even close infinity focus is around about 7 feet.i probably should have sent it back.
Ideal lens for astrophotography. Excellent quality images without breaking the bank.
Sounded great. Unfortunately just had time to test this out for astro after a few months. Tons of chromatic aberration, and can't get to a pinpoint star, despite trying a bunch of variables. I think I got a bad copy. Had an earlier version a long time ago. Much better. Shoulda' kept that one.
I recently shot the milky way with this Samyang 14mm on board my D850. It performed beautifully. I especially liked the locking feature so that the focus never slipped during shooting and moving the tripod around in the dark. The lens overall feels solid and the design is well suited for wide angle photography, or for me Astro. Big thumbs up.
