I have been using these drives for years with no issues. I purchased two on my latest order, both serving as backup drives. The first one failed within 24 hours, we had put a lot of data on it as soon as we got it. We returned it, figured it was a fluke and that's life. Now, 1 month later, and about 65% full, the second one in the order failed. Will just blink and not show up on any computer. Would not recommend purchasing this drive, atleast this drive with these specs, we will not be purchasing again!

I can't remember when I bought this 4TB model (through official Apple website), so I suppose it is beyond warranty date. It worked well for several years, then when I bought a Mac Mini M1 in 2022, things went downhill. The HDD would take a long time to start up on connection (5-10 mins), and would sometimes not unmount, claiming it was being used (even though all apps had been disconnected). My Time Machine partition got corrupted, and now I cannot access it. Sometimes, the drive completely refused to mount. It works somewhat better when I don't use the Satechi hub and connect direct to the Mac Mini, and works fine when I connect it to my 2011 MBP. This is not acceptable, as I do photography work. I am considering buying a professionally-recommended brand.

This external drive arrives formatted for Macs, not for PCs. If you have a PC you will see it in your devices, but File Explorer will not recognize it unless you reformat the drive first. While the tech support person I reached through a chat with the company was very helpful, it was extremely frustrating not being able to use it right out of the box--I was already having computer problems that necessitated getting an external drive in the first place! Now that it's formatted correctly it seems to be working fine.

This drive failed. I did not drop it or subject it to any rough treatment - I didn't have it long enough to abuse it. My mistake is that I didn't realize it was wonky the whole time - I assumed it was Lightroom acting up. Then after using it for a few weeks it crashed. It won't read on any of my computers. None of them recognize the drive. If I can figure out how, I'm guessing my only option will be to reformat the drive - and losing those videos and photos I stored on the drive. I'm disappointed as I've been using the G-Technology Mobile SSD drives and never had a problem, hoped this one would be just as easy and reliable. That's a hundred bucks and a weeks worth of work out the window.
By far the best external drive I've owned. Simple to use, just Plug and Play! I love that it doesn't need an external power source to use. Portable, lightweight everything you want in an external drive. It's actually my G drive on my computer as well! :)I definitely recommend this for those that need data on the go!
I already have a 4TB SSD to supplement storage on my MacBook M3 pro but needed a reliable backup drive for time machine and online storage for that size is expensive. This drive works great for me. I've had a standard external drive fail before so having the extra shock proofing was a key requirement. The price and performance are competitive and hopefully, I will never have to test read speed, but I am ready just in case.
Device wasn't recognized when connected to windows. After getting bounced around at Sandisk support I came to find out this drive still needs to be formatted, tried to formatting and system doesn't allow me to because device is write-protected. I don't have time to format hard drives (purchase 2) and I only wonder how someone with less tech knowledge will get this device working. Returning tomorrow. I will stay with a simple SDD, plug-and-play hard drive.
This portable drive is designed for plug-n-play for Macs. For this windows user this is a switch and was the primary cause of my initial installation challenges. I do not recall any of the instruction sheets that came with the box identifying the steps needed for use, but the instructions were on the website and easy to follow.Once you come to the realization that there is nothing wrong with your PC or the drive, and find the website instructions for re-formatting; it is smooth sailing. Unfortunately, I do not have a direct link for installation on the website. Of course, you should not be clicking on links from strangers anyway.
The item is listed as plug and play, that turned out not to be true. My Windows 11 computer could see the drive when plugged in, but it did not show up on the drop down menu for use. Apparently, this is a known issue, thankfully there are videos on YouTube that explain how to fix the problem. Once I followed the YouTube fix the drive worked great. I'm happy with the drive, not so happy with the extra research needed to get it working.
Several files have been corrupted at random on this drive about a month into ownership. This is the most useless hard drive I’ve ever purchased. The purpose of using an actual hard drive is for its ability to retain data and less likely decomposition of data. The only really nice thing about the drive is the protective casing.I should have returned it instead of assuming it would stop happening.
