But the cushioning and plate come alive when stepping over rocks, the cushioning lessens the impact and then the plate pops and pushes off. I'm really pleased with the purchase, I've only put about 20 miles of trail running and hiking and hope the response keeps getting better as they are worn in.

Cool looking shoes, painful cramps

These shoes are sleek, but I really struggled to adjust to the thick heel. I'm used to Altra lone peak 6's with very little heel and a wide toe box. The bounce from the foam was fun and i didnt feel any knee pain as i sometimes do when i forget to keep my steps light. I think the drastic difference in heel height was the casue of the severe pain and cramping I got around the first mile of my runs. The laces were also tricky to lace up to allow for support but not cut off circulation to my ankles. I have quite wide flat feet and didn't feel as though these shoes were wide enough or provided enough support on the sides to prevent the tissue on the sides of my feet from falling over the edge of the inner sole. I liked the bright pink color, but it's not worth the pain ... MoreThese shoes are sleek, but I really struggled to adjust to the thick heel. I bought these shoes about 6 months ago. I was stoked with them right out of the box. Incredibly fast and light-a great race day shoe! However, they don't last. They deteriorate quickly on rough, technical trail like we have here in Santa Barbara. The upper began to show minimal wear after about 150 miles (small holes). The outsole is where I was most concerned. The tread began wearing down significantly after about 100 miles, and as I approached 200 miles, large pieces our outsole began ripping off exposing the carbon and foam cells. The PWRTAC gives good grip for a while, but simply doesn't hold up. There are better options. At one dollar a mile they aren't worth the investment.

Great for less technical mixed terrain
5 April 2023

I bought these for a mixed trail/road race (8 miles trail, 5 miles road) because I figured the higher stack would be better on the road portion, even though it might compromise the trail portion a little. Most of the trail was hard pack that had just been rained on and it turned to mud. on the trail portion of the race, there was 1200ft of climbing over about 6 miles with 17 water crossings so these shoes got soaked through and drained water repeatedly. I was slightly worried about the review that said the shoes got horribly heavy after getting wet. I’m pleased to report that this was not the case. The reviewer must not be used to running in wet shoes. I found these shoes drained water reasonably well and my feet dried out between the water crossings. The reviewer must not be used to running in wet shoes. I found these shoes drained water reasonably well and my feet dried out between the water crossings. The shoes never became super heavy. Another plus was that the rubber on the soles did not accumulate much mud and shed the mud super fast with each stream dunking. I looked at other people’s shoes and some people were legitimately wearing mud boots halfway through. The downhill trail portion was well cushioned due to the higher stack. I didn’t bomb the hill, but I found I could keep up a fairly brisk pace without losing traction. These shoes also functioned well on the road portion with enough cushion for the last miles of the race. Over all I was very happy with the product’s performance.

Great shoe, great fit, no bounce
26 February 2023

This is very nice shoe, but I've found it doesn't quite have the magic of the endorphin speed. I'm finding no benefit of the plate as one might expect. Compared to my endorphin speed where the liveliness of the plate gives back some bounce that you lose from the robustness cushioning, with the Edge my toes sink in just a bit on every step and give me that running in the mud feeling I get from overly cushioned shoes. As with other Saucony shoes, the fit is great, and I've found the vertical roominess of the toebox to be a pleasant change, and the lacing system is cool. However, the hefty price tag isn't justified for a shoe that needs to be reworked. Hopefully the next version will take more cues from it's endorphin speed and endorphin pro cousins. I Want To Love These —But I’m Unsure
19 April 2023

I’m an experienced trail runner and ultra runner. I’ve run about 80 miles in these particular shoes so far (short and long run) and I’m still unsure of what I think of them. I really want to love these but they feel stiff and not very stable. Perhaps they need more time to be broken in?I bought these because I’ve really enjoyed running in the Saucony Endorphin Series road running shoes, Endorphin 3s and Pro 3s, and I thought these would be a great trail equivalent.Despite having the correct size, I can’t seem to lock my heel in place no matter how I tie the laces. I’ve never been prone to blisters yet I developed one while wearing these. I also get a pain in my right ankle only while I’m running fast intervals in these—something that’s never happened. Ok for shorter runs on even footing.
31 October 2022

I am a big fan of the Endorphin line and have worn nothing but the speeds, pro's, and pro+ for the past two years. I love how light they are and I have run injury-free (>55 miles per week) for that time. I have been looking for a good trail shoe, and the reviews on the Edge were encouraging. Unfortunately, I just do not love this shoe for the type of trail running I do. I run a lot of swampy/wet/uneven muddy terrain. These shoes are fine on pavement and packed sand, but once they absorb any amount of water they become extremely heavy. Once wet, the sole feels much stiffer which becomes uncomfortable when running over uneven terrain since there is little to no give underfoot. I started to notice a pain under my foot and behind my knee after 6 or so miles of those conditions. I have worn on a few trail runs to see if they would soften, but I still feel the same after about 70 miles in these shoes. I will keep these for my shorter trail runs (<10 miles) on even, or packed-sand or rocky terrain (or hiking). For anything longer than 10 miles through ultra, I feel as if they are too heavy and not nimble enough for softer trail-terrain.

Saucony Endorphin Edge
8 July 2023

Ran a trail half marathon right out of the box and was comfortable the entire time. The midsole isn’t as squishy as the newer power run pb in the Speed 3 but has a ton response and is very protective under foot. Running on loose jagged rocks wasn’t an issue the platform is wider than the road Endorphin line up. On hard pack dirt I felt the assistance of the carbon plate as I was able to get into a rhythm rather easily. The outsole has great grip too even in the muddier stuff, Salomon inspired lug pattern so at least it’s tried and true. The upper material is very light and kept out debris nicely. I will most likely keep buying the future iterations of the model.

The shoe's FORMFIT technology adapts to the contours of your feet, providing a secure and snug fit that doesn't compromise on comfort. The padded tongue and collar further enhance the coziness, and the gusseted construction prevents debris from entering the shoe.Traction and Grip:The Saucony Edge Trail's outsole is nothing short of impressive. It's equipped with multidirectional lugs made from PWRTRAC rubber, which offers exceptional grip on various surfaces, including muddy trails, slippery rocks, and steep inclines. The aggressive lug pattern digs into the ground, ensuring stable footing and confidence in every stride.Support and Stability:The shoe's PWRRUN+ midsole delivers a perfect balance of cushioning and responsiveness, making it suitable for both long and short runs. The TPU guidance frame provides additional support and stability, allowing for a more efficient and controlled stride. This feature truly shines on uneven terrain, where the shoe's stability helps maintain proper foot positioning and reduces the risk of injury.Breathability and Quick-Drying:The Saucony Edge Trail features a durable and lightweight engineered mesh upper that allows for excellent ventilation. The quick-drying properties of the material come in handy when tackling wet conditions or crossing streams, ensuring that your feet stay comfortable and dry throughout your run.Durability and Protection:A rugged trail shoe should be able to withstand the challenges of harsh environments, and the Saucony Edge Trail excels in this area. The shoe features a reinforced toe cap and abrasion-resistant overlays, providing protection against rocks, roots, and other trail obstacles. The quality materials and sturdy construction assure that these shoes will last for many miles of challenging trail runs.In conclusion, the Saucony Edge Trail is a top-tier trail running shoe that checks all the boxes for comfort, performance, and durability. Its thoughtful design, superior traction, and adaptability to various terrains make it a must-have for trail enthusiasts. As someone who's put the Saucony Edge Trail to the test in a variety of conditions, I can confidently give it a well-deserved five-star rating. Happy trails!

rolled ankles
14 March 2023

I loved the endorphin shoes. They were my favorite new shoe for last year. They were pure butter on my feet (speed and pro’s). I was so excited as I finally got a saucony that was going to be lighter weight and responsive on the trail. I ordered the new peregines and the edge. The new peregines are great, but still a little heavier than I like. They are now in my rotation. The Edge, we're quite frankly terrible. Both of my ankles rolled so bad that it hurt to walk the next day and I have resilient ankles. I can roll my ankles no problem and normally not have problems after 25+ years on the trail. I’m going to try them one more time on a less technical trail to see what happens (and maybe they are meant for less technical trails), then make a decision on returning.
