This is a very easy pressure cooker to use and has four safety features. The handles stay cool to touch, there's plenty to grab onto and the cooker is quite balanced when carrying. There are two pressure settings, high and low, both clearly indicated on an easy to read pressure indicator. The lid has a marker to use when fitting it to the base so it is easy to know that it has been applied correctly. I use it on an induction hob and everything I have cooked so far has been a resounding success. I can move about the kitchen while the unit is coming to pressure, without having to watch it. There's a hissing sound as it is nearing maximum pressure. When the desired pressure is reached, I turn down the heat, set the timer on the cooktop and go about other nearby tasks. Clean up is very easy and I use bicarb soda rubbed on the base with a cloth if I need some gentle abrasion without scratching. It is so fast and easy to use for end of workday meals, although if a recipe requires 20-30 minutes of preparation time, I would suggest preparing meat and vegies and measuring out multiple spices the night before if you need the meal on the table in a shorter time. Then all you have to do when you come home from work is cook. I love that cooking times are greatly reduced, there is no need to stand and stir for the duration of the cooking, and meat is fork tender. Forget cooking lamb shanks for 3-4 hours. The meat is falling off the bone in 30 minutes. Risotto is cooked to perfection in 8 minutes under pressure, following the softening of onions and infusing flavour into the rice beforehand, as per the regular cooking method. As a risotto purist and skeptic, it was hard for me to believe that no stirring is required, but it's true. Make beef stock in 15 minutes or chicken stock in 8 minutes. The pressure cooker can also be a highly valued item in the vegetarian or vegan kitchen. Lentils are tender in 20 minutes, chick peas in 30. Got a fussy eater who doesn't like vegetables? Fragile vegies like cauliflower, zucchini or pumpkin will break up with stirring at the end of cooking time and be hidden by sauce. Not only does the pressure cooker use less energy, but it frees up my time to deal with other tasks during the cooking, and the process often results in less washing up afterwards.

I recently acquired a pressure cooker having delayed purchase for years with memories of my mother's terrifying version of the same and the soggy vegetables it cooked. This new version is, as promised, very easy to use, not at all terrifying. and produces beautiful food of all sorts. It is particularly good for rice and pulses but I also made a delicious custard. creme caramel was a failure but that was my fault. Strongly recommend this pressure cooker.

Pressure cooker - Scanpan
10 October 2019

This is the best investment to date. I grew up watching my mum with her pressure cooker but if she moved too far away from it, it would blow its valve. Not the case with the Scanpan pressure cooker. My daughter is trying to raise funds for breast cancer awareness so I am doing my bit to help. Her friends are in awe of her having home cooked beetroot in her salad every day so I have cooked kilos and kilos of beetroot in my pressure cooker and done up 3 dozen jars for her to sell at her fund raising morning tea. Thank you Scanpan for making this so easy also does the best silverside - yum!

This is a great pressure cooker that feels really solid and well made. Unlike others, it has a magnificent, full-width base for maximum contact with heat sources. We use ours on a gas flame, induction hotplate, and wood-fired Rayburn hob (where the base's surface area is critical). The pressure regulation mechanism with its simple visual feedback as to how much pressure is in the pot at any given moment is very helpful. It allows you to adjust the heat input to match the gauge, and when it'd done right there's very little steam escaping as you cook. Annoyances are three: 1. You need both hands at all times, even when just lifting the lid off (not a biggie). 2. If the contents are already boiling, it can be hard to get the lid to close because the safety stopper pins ... MoreThis is a great pressure cooker that feels really solid and well made. You need both hands at all times, even when just lifting the lid off (not a biggie). 2. If the contents are already boiling, it can be hard to get the lid to close because the safety stopper pins will pop up and get in the way. The solution is to push or pull the steam release valve as you close the lid. 3. You have to babysit the steam release when you're finished, manually holding the valve down. The solution is to balance a chopping board on top of the valve (or something else that's heavy), or pull up on the valve, which lets much more steam out quickly, or fashion a weight to sit on top of the valve, or a wedge to sit under it. These small annoyances are outweighed by an otherwise great design.

Had to purchase a new pressure cooker as rubber seal no longer available for my 40 yr old prestige. This one is much lighter (steel) and easier to clean and just as simple to operate. I like the simple twist to open and it cooks perfectly. Central pop up rings to indicate pressure better than a pressure weight put on an open vent. Easy to cool and drop pressure before opening.

I feel safe using this pressure cooker as the steam release valve is backed up by the release system in the handles as well as the side of the lid. I also like the two levels indicators on the valve.Very economical to use, on the lowest gas flame I still need to put a trivet on to keep it on the lower cooking level - so not a lot of gas used to cook.

Very Happy With Purchase
10 October 2020

First up, good service from Everten - prompt delivery, good packaging. I have used the Scanpan about 5 times now and it's been very good so far. I feel safe using it with the pressure release valves coming into action if the pressure gets above a certain point. It is easy to see the level of pressure at the top and adjust the heat accordingly. Once the optimum pressure is reached, this works on the smell of an oily rag. I am using gas and I use the smallest burner on the lowest setting and it cooks away happily. It is early days yet but so far I am very happy with this purchase.

Wow its amazing how it landed here in a few days..stainless all the way , got away from that teflon. Once up to temperature it cooks on a flicker of a flame, steamer was awesome for mash , cooked steelcut oats this morning and no sticking , 30 mins from the time i put the lid on. This will be very durable and i know steel. No fiddly double lid or seperate small parts to lose like my old cookers. Easy to use.Im very happy and it was so cheap .I should have bought a 6L as well.

I have been cooking with my scanpan pressure cooker for a couple of weeks now and I am loving it! I am still learning how to cook with a pressure cooker but the few recipes I have tried have been amazing. It cooks in such a short amount of time and really is easy to use. I’m confident that it won’t explode, like those from grandma’s days, as it has several safety features to prevent accidents. I love that I can make meals with food that I’m normally sensitive to i.e. nightshades, and the high pressure that it cooks at eliminates any problems for me. I highly recommend my scanpan pressure cooker, for anyone contemplating another kitchen gadget/appliance, this one is definitely worth it.
