I bought my first Hydraulic Dry Pack for a month long Grand Canyon raft trip. It exceeded all expectations and all of my friends were jealous. First, it has the classic roll top closure which is tried and true keeping things dry. The backpack straps are more than comfortable for slinging it over your shoulder and lugging it from the beach to camp. However, the lash tabs are my favorite feature. Each day I'd typically place this bag on the top of the rig pile to have straps cross over the body of the bag and attach securely in four separate spots. Our stuff wasn't going anywhere! Naturally I had to buy a second bag, I'm hooked!

Used this bag on a trip to Mexico and needed somethine weatherproof that was comfortable enough to wear while walking around towns and in airports. I have a shorter torso so the adjustable points on the back harness are awesome and waist belt functioned well - note that it's not as padded as a true backpacking backpack. Nice that it rolls up for storage, especially helpful for trips involving boats. 120L is HUGE and would comfortably hold a small person while still being able to roll down and clip the top. Got the yellow color and while it looks great out of the bag, the airlines did a number on it so it looked weathered and used after 1-flight, which I was happy about so I didn't look like a newb. Purchased this portage pack for extended canoe trips. Within a couple years, the vinyl started delaminating and the bottom fell out with minimal portages. The bottom and sides are vulcanized and not reinforced with stitching. Similar portage packs used by my Canadian friends were reinforced with stitching and have lasted them over 20 years and counting. The Sea to Summit packs look nice but are worthless because they are so poorly constructed. Don’t buy them because they’ll just end up in a landfill within 2 years. These packs failed me miserably and will never purchase Sea to Summit gear ever again. Go with Bills Bags by NRS.

I think this pack has the most ideal suspension system. There are other systems out there that can optimize carrying on your back but they lose packability on the boat. I can strap this to the back of my non Tyzip packraft or put it inside the rear area of my Tyzip packraft. I remove the straps to remove entrapment hazards when I strap it to the back of my boat. It can be a little difficult to remove and reattach the center harness point especially with cold hands but it works. This bag is also among my most durable drybags and possibly better sealing. I have the 65L and the 120L packs and am happy with both.
I’ve used this pack on a scouting high adventure where we boat in to a remote location on Molokai and have to swim our gear about 100 yds through the surf to get to our campsite. It kept my gear dry. When I went to use it a couple of years later one of rubber straps had torn off. When I contacted the warranty department they took one look at the photo of the damage and sent me a new pack right away! Awesome customer service and awesome warranty!!
These bags are great. I stacked three 65 liter, and carried a couple of smaller ones, on my motorcycle for a roadtrip along the eastern seaboard and the Atlantic Provinces of Canada. I used multiple colors to know what was in each bag. NOTHING got wet except for me. I feel that I would be hard pressed to find something that would suit my needs better than these Sea to Summit Hydraulic Bags.
I picked up this item for a kayaking trip and thought very highly of it with my past experiences with Sea to Summit products I was excited. First, the item was absolutely great at keeping your items dry. Second, the quality of build it aweful. The seams ripped at the bottom, whatever glue they use did not hold up. The buckle at the top ripped off. The shoulder straps ripped off. I would not advise anyone to purchase this bag. I had less than 30lbs of weight in the bag and it fell apart. Again, this pack is aweful. Pick another. For the price of the item it isn’t worth it.
I've owned other Sea to Summit dry bags, and have been very happy with them. I wanted to upgrade with this purchase so I got the Hydraulic (mainly I liked the look of the seal gasket in the photo. The problem with this bag is that they tried too hard to make it sturdy. When you seal a drybag, the first 3 folds are what are going to determine if it stays dry inside -- you need to make them tight and form a perfect seal. The material on this bag is so heavy, that you can't really fold it property for a good seal (and trying a few times will leave you with burning forearms and wrists!). I use my bags for multi-day river trips. I'm about to try this bag on its first trip, but I'm gonna have to change my packing strategy -- nothing critical in this bag. This bag is ... I use my bags for multi-day river trips. I'm about to try this bag on its first trip, but I'm gonna have to change my packing strategy -- nothing critical in this bag. This bag is probably better suited for light water exposure -- like keeping the rain off of things like maybe in the back of a truck or motorcycle. I don't think I would trust this bag in situations where it may be sitting in water (like in the bow of a trip kayak) But you can buy cheaper bags if you just need rain protection. Unless you need super-durable, this really isn't a great bag. Go with either a cheaper bag for rain protection, or an (also cheaper) Big River bag for heavier water protection.
The shoulder straps carry well and the buckles seem beefy for heavy use. The bag material has held up so far but seems thin and is showing signs of wear after moderate use. (12ish days in and out of river boats and rafts). My biggest complaint is I wish there were straps that synched across the top and not just the one roll down buckle to waterproof seal the bag. It seems like if it went swimming or flipped in a raft it may leak a bit. (But I haven’t tested that yet). Otherwise very functional and happy with the purchase.
I've used the Hydraulic dry bag for rafting and motorcycling on multi-day trips. It will be one of the bags I use on an Alaska trip this year. It has several attachment loops which are very convenient for connecting carabiners or other items like a water bottle. I purchased it specifically for off-road motorcycle trips because it is made of heavy duty material, waterproof, lies flat, and has several loops for lashing to the motorcycle tail-rack or pannier. The roll top closure is really convenient and easy to use. So far it has kept my clothing and other gear dry on a high water Salt River trip and in the rain on the back of the motorcycle. Having a bag that is versatile and functional adds value to the product.
