Seachem Phosguard - 500ml
PhosGuard rapidly removes phosphate and silicate from marine and freshwater aquaria. Due to its spherical shape and highly porous quality, it allows maximum water flow and contact giving optimal results. It is not recommended for phosphate buffered freshwater. Directions May generate heat on initial contact with water. Pre-wet by adding to a double volume of freshwater, followed by a rinse. For best results, PhosGuard should be rinsed before use and placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it but not so that it tumbles against itself in flow. It may be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter. Use of a filter bag is recommended. Use 85 ml (1/3 cup) for every 200 L (50 US gallons) saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) freshwater. Leave product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate concentrations. If the concentration of the component you are trying to decrease has not dropped to around 0.02 mg/L, then replace the PhosGuard, otherwise leave in place until levels begin to climb again. As long as concentrations remain under control, the product is not exhausted. Over treating is not recommended. PhosGuard is not an exchange resin and does not release anything into the water. It does not leach phosphate or silicate back into the water and may be removed, dried, and returned to service until exhausted. Continuous use of small quantities is better than intermittent use of larger quantities.

I’ve been happy with the water quality in my 10 gallon, planted betta tank. Watching a few others in the hobby on Instagram & YouTube, I noticed their water was so crystal clear it almost looked like it wasn’t there. One told me he uses Seachem in his HOB filter. I have it a try and 24 hours later I couldn’t believe the difference. Love this stuff and will continue to use.

It does help in removal of brown algae. Although to see real effect you will first have to clean up the aquarium well including ornaments. I added it to my 10’gallon and could see the effects in 5-7 days. Washed it and inserted in filter media bag just like activated charcoal. The algae on my java moss also deacreased to a large extent. Though I really wish it came with bags. Would have been much easier to use. Haven’t checked on how many days it will be effective.

This is it for Phosphates. I use in a reactor and couldn't be more pleased. Does what it says. Careful this stuff will strip an aquarium of Phosphates, your coral might not like that.

Seachem PhosGuard works really well in removing silicates as well as phosphate which we know leads to that brown algae. I am using PhosGuard in a newly planted tank as a test run for my 6-footer that I am building the silicates were very very high.PhosGuard has brought it down to hardly any in a matter of a week. So you can really say goodbye to Silicates and phosphate that help form Diatoms that ugly brown algae that appear in newly set-up tanks after about one to three weeks.
Does what it says. Can simply be placed in a media bag and put in a high flow area and will assist in controlling phosphate levels. Use it regularly in my marine tanks sump. Its no magic fix but used in combination with good tank husbandry and it is capable of keeping phosphate levels very low. Top stuff and very easy to use.
I bought this thinking it wasn't really going to make much difference in my tank. But I needed to try something to get the phosphates lower. I set this up in another smaller canister filter along with my big canister filter for my 110 gallon tank. It has not even been a week and my phosphate levels have dropped. Only thing I wish they made the pellets a little larger because they will go through regular sized media bags, I think the ones made out of white netting will work. Other than that no complaints- good stuff******
