I usually go for WD drives, but when it was time to upsize my 4TB, the price was definitely right on this 10TB drive. It's a bit noisy when being accessed - the drive head makes an audible crunching noise, especially when it first starts up. It also spins louder than the WD drives, but the hum is only noticeable up close. Sit it on an old mouse pad if it's bothersome, and the hum disappears. The speed though - it's much faster than I'm used to. I've already written 5TB to the drive and then ended up removing 1TB as I shuffled some archives. The temperature got up to 54 C, but there were no issues.Overall, I'm happy with the drive so far and would recommend it.

I own several Seagate Drives... most work very well. Some don't. This one has a continuous clicking sound... the drive is struggling with something, keeps repeating. Since I have stored sensitive information on it, I can't return it (factor reset doesn't 100% guarantee the data is gone). I'm stuck buying another drive.

My old 4TB hard drive rolled over and died, so I bought this 10TB guy to replace it. I partitioned it onto two fives, using one for my backup. It happily consumed a 4TB backup without errors and is still humming along. I just hope it lasts longer than its predecessor!

At 265$ taxes included, this 10TB drive represents huge value for the money.Setup was plug and play. Seagate includes a few useless software that I promptly deleted. Copying parts of my huge movie library was painless but a little slow: event if it's a USB 3 drive, it's not the fastest. As far as reading speeds are concerned, I have no problem playing UHD Blu-ray iso files from this drive: playback is flawless.Overall: whenever you need ample storage, don't hesitate to buy this drive when the "before taxes" price gets below 250$.You'll get a deal that's hard to beat.Only con (but not really): competitors offer similar drives with a USB hub integrated in the front. This one doesn't have that.
You can't beat the amount of storage for the money. It works great for cleaning up some space. Not the best for large files you need to access often. One thing that's kinda buggy, when I put my computer to sleep, it ejects itself. Have to unplug and plug every time you use it. Like I said though, great deal of storage for the price
The seagate 10 tb expansion drive is very good! It holds a lot and is reasonably sized. It has its own power supply and built in whisper quit fan. It is very quiet but it does have strong vibrations and ratcheting so if you dont place it on something solid and separate from you computer desk stand it might get annoying with the hollow buzzing or knocking from the desk or other workspace... the price is really good. Small application backup drives at retail stores are almost the same amount for much less space. This is larger but it is lightweight and kind of portable and holds a lot more. With storage technology infrastructure 10 terabytes is waaaay more than 2 terabytes just because the way the data has to be stored and getting 10 terabytes in a drive that fits in ... MoreThe seagate 10 tb expansion drive is very good! The version I purchased was formatted for Windows which is typically not a problem to reformat. The link from the Seagate EHD lead me to instructions on formatting the drive using the Partition tab. That is where I encountered the problem.Further investigation on the web [Google] led me to a Seagate site with instructions on formatting the drive using the Erase tab. That is what worked.Clearly, I was misdirected from the initial link on the EHD.I had initially contacted Seagate with the issue; it took them a few days to respond. Even then, they did not read my initial query carefully and asked for already-provided information. By then I had already formatted the EHD and it was working just fine. Bought to backup all photography related photos, files, software and more. Copied all my movies and music to the drive (which was a lot) and still have 7 TB for future. The drive has worked flawlessly and is very fast. Completely satisfied with this product.
i bought this seagate expansion 10TB external hard drive for the sole purpose of shucking it due to it having either a seagate barracuda pro 10TB or seagate ironwolf pro 10TB hard drive inside which are higher quality "enterprise" drives. my purchased 10TB expansion had a ironwolf pro (ST10000NE0008) inside but it's a lottery as to what you get. as a bonus i reused the enclosure (i did not damage it when dismantling) and put in a slower and smaller 5400rpm hard drive. the only negatives are shucking voids your warranty but it's only 1 year anyway and the enclosure runs kinda hot when the stock 10TB HDD is inside since it's just plastic with a few air holes.
I wanted to get a drive to be used as backup of some home data already stored on NAS disks - mainly for storing the cold copies of some data I absolutely do not want to lose.First, if you do not know what SMR hard drive is, you will know once you try this product. It is SLOW. 25 Mbytes/s is what you get. About 40s per 1Gb. Half a day per Tb. 5 days to fill this disk with the data. This is simply not acceptable, it could be as well USB 2.0 device - in fact, it is half of the maximum speeed of USB 2.0! And all this because of the cheap desktop disk we have inside of this device.Next, the USB cable. Why using a custom connector on the device side? So one day the broken or lost cable makes the device unusable when you need it? I do not understand it ... MoreI wanted to get a drive to be used as backup of some home data already stored on NAS disks - mainly for storing the cold copies of some data I absolutely do not want to lose.First, if you do not know what SMR hard drive is, you will know once you try this product.
