Theres a drive for every situation, and some drives fit more situations than most. In this case, I needed dependability at a low cost, and this used 750GB Server Tough Seagate fit my 67 yr. old friends situation to a tee. As his tech, I chose this drive to be his external storage in a moderately cooled USB enclosure. Excellent drive, meant for 24/7 Server applications, used in a consumer environment? Much better than trusting storage to a new 1Yr warranty combo from John Doe Supermarket, dont you think? And if youre doing Farms and Forests, check out the New Seagate SEs.

I'll say straightout that I avoid Seagate hard drives like I do STDs. This brand, and its lookalike, Western Digital, have accounted for almost all my miseries with hard drive failures, most often at the most inconvenient times. However, my purpose for this drive is as a backup drive in my backup computer, so, even if it lives up to my previous experiences, I won't be left in the lurch. With this provision, I decided to take the almost certain risk that it'll fail within a year or so and get it for a necessary expansion of space. I'd NEVER rely on it or any other Seagate for any critical use.

A lot of drive for such a low price. Not so sure to use it as my main main drive, but if you need back up, using for budget builds, and not critical data applications this was a good driver. No bad sectors or reports. I am sure the seller is very good picking error free drives to send.

After almost a couple weeks of receiving the drive, it is no longer being recognized by Windows or any operating system I use. I tried different SATA ports, cables and even used a SATA to USB Adapter to see if it would be recognized. None have worked. I can hear the drive spinning, but no data was being read or written to it. Before, when transferring data, there was a distinct sound but it did not bother me as much. Unfortunately now I'm stuck with a hard drive with important data in it that is not recognized by Windows.
Generally, these are server pulls, where the drives are pulled on a schedule. This depends on the company selling the drives and what they do on their service contracts. I have sold these to customers for years and they are price effective for personal use or small companies. These drives were purchased for a small company, to be used on a schedule of backups done weekly. This means the up-time on the drives are less. I have 2 of these server pulls that I purchased from a company in NY City that does the maintenance on a schedule. I have 2 of this type drive used in our business for backup that are 6 years old and still working great. They can fail like any other HDD but we have had new Server rated HDD's that failed in less than a year. I am slowly replacing the Seagate models I mentioned above with Western Digital Raid Edition drives and they work like champs. If one does fail and needs to be returned, Western Digital sends back the very latest updated version of that drive. That is how you keep customers happy. We also have new blade servers with new 2.5 inch Seagate drives that are dying daily. Those are also being replaced with 2.5 Western Digital black drives. Never again.
Increasing storage from a single 250GB, this 750GB HDD is INCREDIBLE!!!!! Now I use the start-up drive for apps only and all storage to the 750GB. SATA drives are noticeably faster than ATA/ IDE (Parallel ATA) and this drive is super-fast to me. Space feels almost infinite (only because I know there's a limit.) This HDD is an item I will spread as many recommendations as possible.
Also noticed the original item seem to be “refurbished” only based on observations of the case outside. Almost looks like they buffed it to look “new”. I did select a new product originally, I believe. In the future I may pay the extra at the local store and let them handle any warranty issues. The whole process took about 3 months. Partially because of my ignorance on the whole process since this I have not done warranty exchanges until recently. I wish NE had phone support but I figure they do not have the manpower to answer thousands of calls. Most likely why TD almost went out of business.
Working great and unbeatable price. Thanks !!
got this hard drive thinking it would be good enough to load games and do daily tasks with out a problem. I wasn't looking for SSD speeds. This thing wont even load pubg fast enough to get in game before it starts. would not buy again.
