got two of these (6TB) for 118Fr each, quite impressive pricing compared to the competition and even when compared to segate's own desktop and NAS grade HDDs.The only downside is the relatively higher noise output compared to desktop grade HDDs (which is to be expected), I'm now using them in a 2-bay NAS 3m away from me, they are definitely audible when the room is quiet, but I would not say they are more noisy than NAS drives, they might just have a different pitch.

A drive for those who want the extra assurance of reliability and top speed!

A drive filled with helium gas, pros of such a drive include low temps/low power consumption/quieter... what is there not to like? All in all, helium filled drives are generally considered to be more reliable for 24/7 use in datacenter environments. This seagate drive is brilliant, very very fast! In my tests I was getting a sustained read transfer rate of 225MB/s in a Windows file copy from it to a Raid-0 3-drive array. So far so good, have filled it up twice as a transfer drive and no bad-sectors. Drive appears to run just as fast whilst full as if it were a new empty drive.

Decent speed & lots of storage, but Seagate's "5 Year" warranty isn't as it seems!
26 September 2019

I needed to upgrade my 5TB Toshiba X300 HDDs as I was running out of space on those. I picked up 4 of these for 2 separate mirror volumes. The reason these were picked up was that BackBlaze seemed to be using a lot of these and from their results, there didn't seem to be as many failures in comparison of the other brands. Also, Newegg had these discounted a little bit not long ago. If there are any further issues with these, I'll update the review as needed.

Excellent value and performance for high capacity drive

Replacing multiple ST2000NM0033 drives that have been in service for seven years (yes, since 2013 when this is written). While migrating the data off the old drives, it was impressive that this new model exhibited completely consistent performance while writing Terabytes of data sustained. Tests with some other drives showed that even other recent model drives could not always read at a sustained speed to keep this drive writing data as fast as it could. When testing from SSD based sources, using real data, not any artificial programmatic benchmarks, it was able to sustain 200-220MB/s writes. I exercised these over several days before entrusting them to the large amount of data that I needed to migrate over and the write performance over all those test was remarkably consistent time after time. And even after two weeks straight of 24x7 operation now, drives are running at a pretty modest 30-32 degrees C. Read performance is just as good, but expected that for this type of drive. The recent price drops on this series of drives have placed it in an excellent price/capacity/performance position as of this writing. I use lots of Seagate drives and have always had great results with any of their enterprise class drives (to simplify, just stick with any of the models with "NM" in the model number). Yes, there is a bit of a price premium over some of the value live drives, but my data is worth a lot more to me and my business than trying to save a few bucks.

Failed to add this drive to RAID-array (4KN HDDs)
5 July 2023

I bought this drive to replace failed SAS HDD in an old RAID-array. Documentation says that drive is compatible with both 512E and 4KN formats. Formatted at 512E by default, but can be easily re-formatted. At this moment I spent already few weeks trying to get instructions from RAID-controller and HDD vendors to make it working. Still failed.

Good Drive but Old Stock

The Exos (SAS) line is a fast and decent drive. this is the second time I am trying to get fresh drives from B&H. They issued an RMA for my original 4 that I purchased (RAID 10 array). The first set wound up being so old that they only had 3 years left on the 5 year Seagate warranty. These new ones were not much better. All drives fail eventually. I have over 50 various drive in different devices so having new drives that have already lost 40% of their warranty is not something that I am happy with. Don't get me wrong, B&H has been working with me to attempt to get the issue resolved and the drives perform very well in critical applications but I guess that since the SAS interface is used mostly in servers the inventory has not moved as fast as they anticipated. In my opinion Seagate could do better by having the warranty start from date of purchase (as proven by purchase receipt).

Strange

It seems a bit ridiculous to review a server hard drive a week after installation. I'm guessing there was no human intervention in the generation of this request for a review. This hard drive came well packaged in an easy to open box. The four screw holes accepted the screws with no problem. The hard drive slid easily into the bay. After one week, this hard drive has not failed. I give it two thumbs up.

Boardroom Technologies has been great to work with, and they tolerate my absurdly low offers politely, haha! Thanks Boardroom Tech! I look forward to doing lots more business with them in the future!
