I have six of these Seagate 4TB IronWolf drives in my new Synology DiskStation DS1618+ NAS and they are working flawlessly so far. I bought four of these at first, then went back a few days later for two more because I decided I had to fill all six bays at once! Great capacity. Great price. Performs extremely well as a backup drive. This drive is not meant as a day-to-day drive so you will be a bit disappointed if you use it as one. If you are concerned about "only 4 Tb!" think about your storage needs. you'll figure out that either one, or an array of these disks will meet your needs well into the future.Without reservation I recommend these drives for backup.

Pros: It is a fast high capacity drive designed for a multidrive environment. I will be using this in a 4 drive raid 5 network attached storage. It is replacing older drives. So far I have no issues with the drive. Only time will tell if it changes. It has an OK warranty length and excellent recovery service.Cons: Not really a con with this drive, but the drive rescue service that comes standard with this drive was an option on older versions of the Iron Wolf I purchased.

I buy drives due to the way I use them.I used to run file servers and found myself walking away from a lot of them due to the existence of docking stations.The way I run backups is simply using a HDD connected to a docking station. The docking station then is connected to a USB HUB. One HUB for each computer I own.I then change the USB cable from HUB to HUB to make sure I can get to each system. I have five systems in this room.These drives are cheap and allow me to store what I need on them. I buy them mainly to store completed projects I have done in Video Editing. In short, its all about backup and archival purposes and nothing more.
I purchased this for an external HDD enclosure to connect with my Cloud Server system. My Cloud Server died after nearly 2 1/2 years of active use. When I replaced the Cloud Server, I found that BOTH drives wound up getting wiped when the old Cloud Server died and I only used RAID 0 so I lost ALL of my data, 15 years work, hundreds of saved programs, thousands of pictures and documents ALL GONE in the blink of an eye!! I was able to recover some of my lost data using a data recovery tool but I lost so much more and the recovered files did not retain their file names. So, I will need to basically start saving my data from scratch again. With this, drive I can now run backups against my new Cloud Server and know my data will be protected if the Cloud Server dies again.
Honestly this review isnt even about the item its about the goated salesmen. Their website showed 2 left in store at a different location but it didnt it have so I got to this other location with 5 minutes left before closing time and the goat spent around 15 minutes looking around for this even after the store closed and sold it to me. The product is easy to install tho. No issues recognizing the hdd either.
My third Seagate 4TB drive. Good price, great reliability. It seems like the price goes pretty high once you get past this tier. But my other seagates have been is use nearly 3 years so far. I only had 2 HD bays in the bottom of the case. There are 3 places to install ssd drives... Anywho, I ended up installing in above the ancient DVD burner drive. Fits just fine there.
Purchased 4 for a TrueNAS build as a backup for a Synology Device. Drives worked perfectly out of the box. Nightly smart reports have shown no issues at all.The drives are very quiet, even during read/write, generate very little heat, have very little vibration and have been great thus far.This is my first time using Seagate for NAS style drives, so my comparison are against WD Red PRO, WD Red Plus and HGST branded NAS drives. As far as a comparison, against the mentioned drives, these tend to run slightly warmer, but in exchange are slightly faster. Beyond that, they are performing just as well as the others.I intend to purchase another batch in the near future to add another ZFS array for backing up a virtualization host.
