Sega Nintendo Switch Sonic Frontiers Video Game

Sonic Frontiers is an upcoming action-adventure game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The game was announced at the Sonic Central livestream event in May 2021 and is currently scheduled for release on various platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Not much is currently known about the specifics of the game's story or gameplay, but it has been described as an "open zone" game that takes place in a "mysterious new realm." The game will feature Sonic and his friends exploring this new world and facing off against new enemies. One of the key features of Sonic Frontiers is its open-world design, which is a departure from the more linear levels typically found in the Sonic franchise. This means that players will be able to explore and navigate the game world in a more free-form manner, with a focus on exploration, discovery, and speed. The game's trailer also showcases stunning visuals, with lush environments, detailed character models, and impressive lighting and effects. Overall, Sonic Frontiers looks to be an exciting new entry in the Sonic franchise that builds on the series' strengths while also introducing new gameplay mechanics and design elements. Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog and open-world games should definitely keep an eye on this one.

Gameplay wise, Sonic has not been as fun in quite some time. Specifically the boss battles, which are very much the shining point of the game. The story is also a nice surprise with the new character, Sage, also becoming a favorite easily. While the Cyber levels could be longer, they accomplish what they need to do without becoming a slog to go through. And the open world design, while it could be better and more filled in, feels nice to go through. Overall, a good reset I think the series needed and am looking forward to seeing what Sega does next with it.

This game has everything an OG sonic fan would want. Immersive open world and exploration to continue the plot. Fun stage levels that have a twist of old gamws and new elements gameplay mechanics. Fun character interactions and feels like a dreamcast and gamecube era game. They do the characters justice in this game and I would reccomend it to anyone who grew up as a sonic fan. Not to mention they’re adding free DLc which adds to the already amazing story, including additional playable characters.

And of course the music is outstanding. After 11 years of garbage, Sonic feels like he is finally on the right track again. My only major complaint is Cyberspace's movement, the story only feeling like an apology to the fans instead of a... well, story and the story ultimately dropping off a cliff at the end.Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Greatest 3D Sonic Game in Years
14 December 2022

I have enjoyed the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise for many years, both 2D and 3D games alike. Sonic Frontiers introduces the speedy blue hedgehog to the "open zone" format of gameplay, and I'm very impressed with the results. Obtaining the many collectibles across the various island is addicting and fun, and smashing up enemies with the new combat system is a blast as well. The short "Cyberspace" levels are also a nice callback to recent Sonic game formats, giving long-time fans something familiar to enjoy along with the new. These levels have their own missions that completionists will certainly enjoy completing as well. Also, the boss battles are sure to get your adrenaline going!

Pretty Rough

This is a decent evolution for sonic, but the game just feels like im wandering around with little to no direction. Boss fights are frustrating. The camera will suddenly switch and youll get killed. Merely touch water and youre dead. Its a shame because this could be a super fast fluid game without all the technical issues. Take the concept and give it to From or Monolith and youd have a great, near perfect game i’d assume. At the end of the day im glad i got it for a Black Friday discount hut im pretty positive ill never touch it again.

Sonic is back for real fun! A+!
21 January 2023

Sonic is officially BACK! This game really gets things right with graphics, music, and the pacing. You never feel stuck anywhere or doing picky tasks. The puzzles are fast and fun, and the plot is interesting too. It never feels cheezy or 'try hard', and the challenges are balanced. I was really surprised at how well I loved the music too! This game takes Sonic to new places with a new style...and you'll want to go along for the ride!

Switch Version Looks Awful...
6 January 2023

I purchased this game as Christmas gift for my son. He loves Sonic and has been waiting for this game all month. We were both very disappointed with the quality of the Switch version of this game. The resolution is bad. Everything looks very pixelated. The framerate looks like it's hovering around 30FPS. And the level of detail in the environment looks like something out of a game from the Playstation 2 era. I kept wondering if there was something we could change in the settings to make it look better but couldn't find anything. Then I checked the picture settings on my TV wondering if something was wrong with my TV, but that wasn't the problem. Then I did some research online, and saw a comparison between the PS5 and Switch versions of this game, and it is night ... MoreI purchased this game as Christmas gift for my son. The PS5 version looked 1000 times better from the Youtube videos we watched online comparing the versions. After seeing that, I ordered the digital PS5 version of the game from the Playstation Store. It was like we were playing a completely different game. If you do get this game, play it on anything but the Switch in my opinion.

Switch version sadly done dirty by the engine
17 November 2022

I was hoping the Switch version didn't get the short end of the stick... and it did.The game itself is good, but the Switch was left behind sadly. The game plays as if it was made with a fluctuating 480i in mind, the render distance is really short, so things are either not shown, or flat and pixelated. (The distance I show in a screenshot attached to this review)The game runs, but not even at a consistent 30FPS. There WILL be times where the game will chug; specifically the open world part when going fast. And there's nothing we can do about that. The stages are ok, you'll see some graphical quality hits, but you *may* notice the frame drops in the faster/heavier sections. You can try and turn off a few things in the options menu, (like motion blur) and get ... MoreI was hoping the Switch version didn't get the short end of the stick... and it did.The game itself is good, but the Switch was left behind sadly. The game plays as if it was made with a fluctuating 480i in mind, the render distance is really short, so things are either not shown, or flat and pixelated. You have for decades. Switch version didn't deserve this.If you have the other consoles or even a decent PC, grab their respective versions instead. The Switch (and the other platforms) has been around a while, letting your dev teams learn the (respective platforms') hardware & optimizing for it isn't hard(or a bad thing), but nowadays the publisher tells everyone to pick an Engine and then proceed to shove everything onto it, and then let THAT do ALL of the work.(That usually ends badly if something goes wrong and isn't caught by the QA team, example: results in Critical Day One patches)The tradeoff of relying 100% on The Engine is that overall quality takes a significant hit. The Engine has limits; the hardware it's running on.It WILL have to make sacrifices to remain stable. While stability is not something that should be sacrificed, if the quality suffers significantly, then the game loses, as it's no longer a polished product, but a burden to itself.I'm not going to be returning my Switch copy; I did buy the PS5 version as well because I wanted to take it on the go & have it on the big screen too.Comparing the two versions, I feel that for THIS steep of a quality deficit, Switch version shouldn't even be priced at $60.

The best Sonic game since Sonic Generations.
3 April 2023

Sonic Frontiers is a near perfect game, It's positives outweigh it's negatives. To start with, the open maps are a absolute blast to run, zip & traverse across. the pop-in for rails & platforms isn't a deal breaker for me, but I understand why most people are frustrated by it. the puzzles are simple but fun, & the story is leaps & bounds better than the last decade of Sonic games in my humble opinion. Especially if you have played every Sonic game up to now, they reference nearly everything that has happened to these characters. Combat leaves a little something to be desired but is still better than playing the Werehog in Sonic Unleashed, I especially enjoyed the boss fights. Sonic is still the blue blur but I guess the developers wanted to add a story to something as simple as sonic. The story was a decent attempt but not great. Each stage was about as fun as a mobile game (app) level. Too much to do and not enough incentive to do a lot it. Decent voice acting and somewhat fun gameplay. Maybe I’m complaining because I’m not the biggest Sonic’s fan and only play the OG sonic stuff and sonic heroes. But it just wasn’t today impressive
