Sennheiser Open-Back Dynamic Headphones,HD 660 S
The HD 660 S features a new transducer design developed by Sennheiser. This results in improved control of the diaphragm movements thanks to a specially manufactured precision stainless steel fabric, which is adapted to the contour of the diaphragm. Extremely light aluminum voice coils ensure the highest impulse fidelity. The transducers are carefully selected and paired by hand to ensure consistently narrow (±1 dB) tolerances. The HD 660 S has been created to enjoy music in supreme quality and from many different audio sources. Thanks to its low impedance it also offers reference-class fidelity with hi-res mobile players. Naturally, the HD 660 S reveals its full potential when it is connected to the balanced outputs of a dedicated headphone amplifier such as the HDV 820 or to the balanced output of a mobile digital audio player. Accordingly, it comes with a choice of cables for just about any occasion. All cables are made of highly conductive OFC copper, featuring very low handling noise and sturdy para-aramid reinforcement. Everything about the HD 660 S makes listening a pure pleasure - not least its strong yet lightweight open construction. The elliptical ear cups are shaped to follow the anatomy of the ear, while thick padding on the headband and the replaceable ear cushions guarantee hours and hours of listening in supreme comfort.

After previously owning and greatly enjoying the superb Sennheiser HD600's and HD650's I was slightly worried about adding the 'newish' HD660's to my Sennheiser collection. However I need not have had any fears, they are simply a superb set of headphones. As comfortable as any I have used (and there have been plenty) they are a joy to listen to. I have quite varied musical tastes and these shine in all genres. The soundstage and vocals are impeccable but the placement of individual instruments is astounding. The best I have ever heard. As usual the service from Richer Sounds was First Class. Both are highly recommended.

I bought the Sennheiser HD660S head phones and boy am I glad that I did. They are "open back" cloth ear pieces with a wonderful sound. The other pair of head phones that I possess are "closed back" with leather ear pieces. I eventually stopped wearing them because they became too sweaty and uncomfortable and after approximately an hour I got bored with the music because the sound coming through was in my experience not so good. Although this is a subjective experience. After switching to the Sennheiser HD660S head phones my experience in the change of detail, liveliness of the music and comfort was like night and day. I can wear these head phones for hours on end listening to any type of music and even watching programmes such as the news. They are well worth the amount of money that I paid for them. I read a write up of some one complaining that there is not enough bass coming through the head phones. This is a subjective call but my subjective call tells me that my damaged hearing from my youth still easily picked up enough bass in the music that I listened to. I suppose "each to his own". And as usual the Customer Service from Richer Sounds was the best. Advice received, bought today and delivered tomorrow. Thanks once again to the crew at Richer Sounds Exeter.

In one word 'Excellent' is what best describes these headphones. I have had my fair share of listening experience with different headphones and IEMs (some of them top-tier) and I can say that these are amongst the very best. You will not go wrong with these. I am using it with the Topping A90 + Topping e30 and they are crystal. It feels like there is nothing between the recording studio and my ears. So clear. They are awesome even out of the box without any burn in. Tried both the balanced and single ended option and I really can't tell the difference except that it can get louder balanced. To top it all I got it during the discount.

No complaints about sound and comfort but cables are among the worst I've seen. Cheap rubber cable that are likely to break in the spot marked on the picture (my lasted ~1.5years). For the price I really expected something better. Sennheiser also doesn't send replacements: > Thanks for your request. Unfortunately due to the worldwide situation, we don't have this cable on stock for some time to come was the response given by their customer support with a link to Amazon for another cable that was also out of stock. They are clearly not interested in replacing cables even under warranty. Strongly recommend avoiding Sennheiser based on my experiences.
In short, these are amazing Open Back Headphones that blew my mind when I purchased them long back. It was my second open back headhone after a Grado that I purchased long back in 2010. Open back headphones may not be the best for daily usage and you need to be a quiet environment to really enjoy so I did not plan to buy anymore but after a friend gave me a demo of these headphones in his house, I took the plunge to buy them. I purchased them pre-pandemic and in a way, I managed to get most of them as its an ideal headphone for home usage and long hours without any strain. These headphones sound amazing in every Genre of music you throw and its will not disappoint you come what may. These headphones sound amazing in every Genre of music you throw and its will not disappoint you come what may. This is the headphone that I can assure will make your listening experience shift to a new dimension. The immersion you get with these headphones will just keep you hooked to these pair of cans. The sound signature that you get can be what is slightly on the darker side and may not sound as bright as many headphones but in no ways it causes any issues as with some time, you find a charm in the sound signature. The only issue that I can indicate is that you need a proper Amplifier to really get the best of these headphones. Plug it to your phone or laptop, you will still enjoy it 95% but to get the best, a good amplifier is needed. I use with a DAC/AMP combo and once you give it the power, these will just blow you away. If can afford just one good pair of headphones, then buy these and its hard to go wrong with these
I previously had the Sennheiser HD 650 and they were vocal kings but the lacked depth and weight in the sound and vocals felt thick but light. The HD 660s has solved this problem and added bit more mid bass which increases the overall depth of this headphone. The Vocals still have great texture and forwardness but the only downside is that due to the addition of that little bit of extra bass, the vocals have a slightly less presence in the overall mix. Again this has another good effect that is, the details and microdetails are more clear which were a little muddier in HD 650. The 660s also have more dynamics (attack, slam, punch..) which is very good for dynamic songs. The 660s also have more dynamics (attack, slam, punch..) which is very good for dynamic songs. The soundstage has also increased a little bit but what has greatly changed is that now the space around the vocalist is much wider and imaging is very accurate. The timbre is a bit artificial than HD 650 but this adds more sparkle and fun to songs. The treble is also done well (a little bit veiled... but that is considerable). So my final verdict is at a price of around 30K it is recommendable to music lovers and beginner audiophiles alike.
HD 660S is a perfect side-grade for Sundara since both these serve different genres and now I am able to throughly enjoy vocal and mid-range focused library like never before. Imaging on these punches way above its weight, pinpoint and precise. Sub-bass is lacking hence giving 4 stars. These are relatively easier to drive and do work well with my Shanling M3X with balanced 4.4 connection thereby making an amplifier redundant. At this price point (around INR 22.5k) 660S can very well serve as the only go-to headphones in case someone is planning to enter the elusive audiophile territory.
This is the real start of my audiophile journey. I embarked on this glorious path last year with the Hifiman Sundara and the ifi Zen Dac V2. It was really nice sounding to my ears and I was enjoying my Sundara until I met this Sennheiser King and then I really understood the depth and meaning of terms such as imaging, resolution, fidelity, detail retrieval and crystal clear vocals. These are fantastic for movie watching as well! It's like a personalised movie theatre experience with an exceptional dialogue reproduction capability that makes you understand each and every word without subtitles. Also pretty solid pair of cans for FPS games. Though for the Role Playing games, I would prefer using my Sundara, given its relatively larger sound stage. The clamping force is tight as mentioned by others but not a deal breaker. As for the sound, I loved it. Its the right balance between clinical and enjoyable for me. Awesome with all kinds of music including rock and metal. Bass is not great but good enough for rock. Needs amplification and a good source to shine though. I have been using it with Tidal hifi plus and chord mojo and it sounds magical. The other reviews on the site really helped me to choose it so I guess I owed to do my bit as well. Pay it forward
These headphones are highly recommended for anyone looking for good vocal performance with balanced sound signature. The imaging is great and the soundstage is decent but it could have been better. These headphones complement my Meze 99 classics very well. I am using the ifi Zen DAC V2 and it is adequate for driving these headphones. The TrueBass feature of the Zen DAC compensates the lack of bass performance when needed. The build quality of the HD660S is decent though the Meze is miles ahead in this department . I find the headphones comfortable with the right amount of clamping force and can be worn for a longer period of time. The fabric like earpad material is much better than the Meze as it prevents sweating around the ears.
