Like the original, the new Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 modules feature two multi-waveform analog oscillators, analog resonant low-pass filters and amplifiers, and a filter and amplifier envelope per voice. Modulation is provided by a multi-waveshape LFO and Poly Mod, a ground-breaking modulation scheme for its time that allowed the filter envelope and oscillator B to be routed to a variety of destinations including filter cutoff frequency, oscillator A frequency, and oscillator A pulse width. And just like the new Prophet-5/10 Rev 4 keyboards, the modules feature genuine Curtis VCOs and filters as used in the Prophet-5 Rev 3, as well as the Dave Rossum-designed SSI 2140 filter — the modern counterpart of the original SSM 2040 Rossum designed in the Prophet-5 Rev 1 and Rev 2. A Rev switch on the front panel allows users to switch between the two as desired. Also present is the new Vintage knob, which loosens up the oscillators, filters, and envelopes from voice to voice as they typically are in vintage Prophet-5s. Users can dial in progressively more vintage character from a very stable “4,” as in Prophet-5 Rev4, all the way to “1,” as in Prophet-5 Rev1, which was the most temperamental of all Prophet-5s. The original factory sound set is included as well. Other modern enhancements include velocity sensitivity and aftertouch to increase expressiveness, as well as MIDI and USB connectivity. Control voltage and gate ins/outs are also present for connecting modular synths and other gear. The new modules are housed in a premium-quality, steel case with hand-oiled sustainable black walnut heartwood trim.

This synth has single-handedly made me re-evaluate further collecting vintage synths...that often break down and need to be serviced. Now that Dave Smith in his technical wizardry has brought the 70's sound back to us via a modern synth, I believe we will now start to see it happening more often. The Prophet 10 is my favorite purchase of 2021... and American Musical Supplies' awesome 12 payment plan sure hit the spot in making the purchase sooner than later!

Huge, classic analog sounds. I've tried just about every synth that's come out since the 80s and this was the first one in decades to nail that big sound that we love from vintage analog synths. I have a room full of classic analog synths and this holds it own with all of them.

Truly a creator’s tool. It actually changed my workflow from mostly menu diving in soft synths and other keyboards and modules to picking a patch, tweaking it to my taste and recording it destructively to a track. Mostly in one take. It literally draws music our of me. Some songs have only the Prophet 6 and whatever I’m using for drums and or percussion. Hands down one of THE MOST useful pieces of gear I’ve bought in years.

If you're into the 80's synth sound, you'll love this thing!! You get so lost playing with it and turning knobs that you have to remind yourself to hit the record button on your DAW! I've had it for 5 months now and it is hands down one of the BEST SOUNDING POLYSYNTHS OUT THERE! Everything about this beast is premium, nothing feels cheap and it's well worth the money. It's great for Pros or if you just got started with programming patches. I have mine going through all three of the new universal audio guitar pedals to add effects to my sound. Even if you don't use external effects, this thing still sounds amazing! I can literally type all day about this synth, but I'll stop and just tell you to buy it!
I am 53 and started out with a Roland SH-101 aged 13 and have owned or played many synthesizers over the last 4 decades. I owned a Roland Jupiter 8 for a long time and always felt more associated with the JP-8 than the Prophet-5. As I became ever more experienced at sound programming I veered away from 'been there, seen it, done it' analog and preferred complex digital synthesizers to find something new. The reason for saying all that is that I felt surely I would have heard everything you could get out of a Prophet 5, and they are so expensive, what is the point in having one? I loved the Tin Drum album by Japan as well as everything since by David Sylvian and Richard Barbieri, so I always felt a bit of a pull towards getting a Prophet 5, but thgouth there was ... I loved the Tin Drum album by Japan as well as everything since by David Sylvian and Richard Barbieri, so I always felt a bit of a pull towards getting a Prophet 5, but thgouth there was nothing left to say with this synth. So... eventually I decided to buy one because of the memory link to Japan / David Sylvian and the fact that it looks so beautiful as a piece of furniture, and what really surprised me is the sound. You can create highly complex evolving sounds that are still relevant and quite unique. So I am really really pleased with it. It sounds beautiful AND there is still artistic space within its sound world to make your own mark with it, something I really wasn't expecting. I have been trying to make the sorts of sounds heard on that Japan Tin Drum album, but my own thing, and have been very pleasantly surprised that instead of feeling bored I have felt excited creating sounds with it. I was expecting to feel like a jaded 40-years of synth programming 'been there, done that' user, but am very pleased to have been proven wrong. So... if you can afford it, yes, it looks and sounds absolutely beautiful and is worth the asking price.
Great, classic synth updated with MIDI, aftertouch, etc. The keybed is fantastic to play and the stacked mode brings multi-timbral possibilities. Although a simple synth it's capable of a lot, and it's simplicity is actually what I like about it. Very immediate and playable - no menu diving here! Some of the combinations of keypresses to achieve tasks did have me heading for the manual though....
Oh boy, the Prophet 5 is incredible. The sound of this thing is ultimately inspiring and addictive. Don’t be scared of the price because there is a reason why it costs what it does, you will see why when you start playing it.. love this synth.
hard to believe how they (1) managed to re-create the original Prophet so well: no other re-issue comes close (2) cram it into this little box. The simplicity vs endless textures of the Prophet 5's architecture remain mindboggling. This is a true 'instrument': it is simply impossible not to be inspired by it, you can't get an (unintended) ugly or meaningless sound from it. Buy two: layering this in realtime will take your breathaway. Built quality is great, doesn't heat up too much, holds tuning well
